Looks like a copy-cat series from the prior "Enlisted" series. Similar plot ... a person shot off his mouth and gets banished to an obscure military base.

If you're looking for belly laughs from a TV show, this is not the comedy for you. If you're looking for a deeper examination of what people face in their day-to-day lives, with a touch of comedy, then this show may work for you. Mr Lorre was doing basic comedy in, e.g., the Cybill shows. Since then, recently he's progressed, tackling more difficult issues. Skipping ahead to Mom, that show was a tough one to watch because of its premise. But watching it was rewarding because of the understanding one gains. Bob Hearts Abishola is another where one gains insight while enjoying the episodes. The United States of Al carries on along those lines. Mr Lorre is clearly progressing (and making up for the decreasing quality of Big Bang's 7th through 12th seasons. But I digress...). Mr Young plays his role superbly. I enjoyed his acting on Enlisted, but this series allows him to really show his subtly. The way he walks around the house, you can see by the expression on his face that he is carrying a burden. The interaction between Mr Young and Mr Kalyan characters shows a deep friendship that spans many difficulties. As is usual with a Mr Lorre series, the character development is excellent. So if you're looking for a TV comedy where you put your brain on hold, watch the show, then pick up your brain afterwards, this show may not be for you. But if you want to watch an observation of the bond between an American soldier and the Afghan interpreter he worked with, with a comedic touch, then I'd say give this show a viewing. If you watch no other episode, watch the one about the fundraiser....

I can't take this anymore. I sat through the pilot and a couple more episodes. But I won't subject myself to this disaster of an attempted comedy any more. I can feel my brain draining out of my ears as I watch it. It's an assault on real comedy, more noteworthy of a Nobodies-style cringe than anything else. I gave it a "1" instead of a "0" only because the better-than-average cast seems to be suffering along with me.

I watched the first couple of episodes and dismissed the show. On a lark, I watched a couple of the more recent episodes, and I have to say that I watched a different show. I don't know what happened, but the show grew a soul. The interaction between the dad and his daughters is wonderful. The quirky absurdity of the awkward dates seems to be gone. I'm looking forward to what the future brings here. The Uniconrn is back on my DVR's ToDo list.

I wanted to watch another couple episodes after I saw the pilot. As bad as the pilot was, the subsequent episodes I watched were worse. The writing is poor, the premise is worse, and even Ms Heaton can't make up for that. No matter how hard she tries. It is difficult to determine whether the supporting characters are suitable for the roles they play, as they seem to be over-acting to make up for the poor writing. If the producers really think this show is as funny as they try to project via the laugh track, then I'd say that someone might as well seek an alternate career opportunity.

I've seen the first five episodes so far. This looks to be developing into a good show. The character development has been very good, par for the course with Mr Lorre. The story is engaging, it makes me look forward to the next episode. I do agree, though, with one of the prior comments here that the hospital humor is sometimes in poor taste, e.g., the death scene mentioned, and the scene in the operating room where the surgeon threw an organ. Without that type of non-humor, I would have given this an 8. For now, though, the DVR is still set to record it each week, one of the very few new shows this season to earn that distinction.

I really enjoyed watching this series. It reminded me a lot of the original Star Trek's sometimes "tongue-in-cheek" approach. The first season's writing was a little weak tackling some of the heavy issues, but in season 2, the writing upped its game and was solid. 'Tis a shame it's moving to Hulu, I can't afford yet another streaming service. It was nice on Fox while it lasted. Oh well...

The Big Bang Theory: Season 120
May 19, 2019
I've watched three episodes so far, and I am not impressed. This season appears to be even worse than seasons 10 and 11, a feat I would have though impossible six months ago. But there it is. In a way it is good that this show is being brought to a close. Mr Lorre seems to have run out of fresh ideas about three or four seasons ago. Now it is just a matter of watching the slow-motion crash come to a conclusion. I'm going to continue to watch this season, hoping it rallies to some manner **** series finale. ============================= Update Nov 5, 2018 I've taken this off my DVR's "todo" list. No sense recording a show that I no longer enjoy. I'm not watching this anymore, contrary to what I said ^^up there^^. Season 12 has diminished from a nerdy "Friends copycat" (seasons 8, 9, 10, 11) to an unfunny low-grade soap opera with an overbearing laugh track. I mean, really, when the producers need to tell you that loudly and intrusively where the funny spots of the show should be, well, something major is wrong. The odd thing is that, in spite of the number of times I have seen the episodes, I still enjoy watching seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 when they show up on TBS. =============================== Update May 19, 2019 I watched the series finale. It was definitely a few notches better than what I had seen of season 12. The actors and actresses actually seemed to be "into" their roles, something I'd not seen since season 7 or so. Seasons 10, 11, and 12, the actresses and actors were mostly cardboard cutouts reading lines, any acting seemed to be done with banal boredom. I do have to give congratulations to Mr Lorre, though. He managed to pull in the viewing audiences for 12 seasons. I'm still watching the reruns of the first six seasons (season six starts the downslide, though), will even be purchasing the Bluray discs of those seasons. Thanks for the ride, Lenny, Penny and Kenny!

I happened to see a promo for this show while I was watching a old classic series on Comedy Central. I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a watch. It's a surprise. This show succeeds where the show Nobodies failed. The writing is quite good. The actors work excellently in their characters. Oh so well. The writers have captured something elusive here. The bonding among the three siblings is strong, and is a strong part of the show. And its funny. Real humor.

People of Earth: Season 29

This show was a pleasant surprise for me during its first season. I enjoyed it so much that I had a concern that the second season would be a let down. That concern was for naught. The second season builds upon the strengths of the first season and also shores up the few weaknesses I saw in the first season. The scenes upon the spaceship are still hilarious. Laugh out loud hilarious. Mr Hall is amazing in his portrayal of Jeff. How he manages to convey the emotions, frustrations and feelings through all that makeup is beyond my ken, but he does. Masterfully. For the second season, the Beacon-based scenes have most definitely upped the ante, helping with a comparatively weak area of the first season. For season two, the spaceship scenes and the Beacon scenes are on par with each other. That is a significant benefit for the show. The writing, character development and character portrayal remain absolutely first rate. As an example, I can read an episode's description in the DVR's program guide, and I'll chuckle as I imagine the characters acting out that scene. That's the strength of the characters. The following goes back to season 1, but I think it shows the depth of the writing. I had liked Tonto's Expanding Headband back in the day. Because of this show, I have taken the vinyl off the shelf and enjoyed TEH once again. This show is hitting it out of the park. It's fun, it's quirky, it has depth. And it has humanity. It is just plain *fun to watch*. [Sep 14 update - yea! a third season is coming!] [Jun 9, 2018 - the third season has been canceled. So sad...]

The Big Bang Theory: Season 112
May 11, 2018
[end of season update] I just watched the last episode of the season.... The show seems to be falling into a rut. The last show of the season and the first show of the season are quite excellent. But what is in between is lacking. With all the advertising money that this show rakes in, why cannot such quality wirting be supported throughout the entire season? Have the "just read the lines" stars been **** all of the money (a.k.a. life) out of this show? Let's be frank here... the stars of this show have been looking more and more as if they just show up to read lines that are pieced together in the editing room. This season seems to show this more and more. And it ****. The soul has been drained from this show. I pose the following question: why is it that I still enjoy the first six seasons of this show immensely in reruns, after having seen them a dozen or more times. Yet I have trouble maintaining an interest in a 11th season episode the first or second time I see it? Am I the only one who has noticed the abject deterioration of the quality of this show?

Nobodies: Season 21
Apr 30, 2018
Season 2 appears to be no better than season 1. It's the same fall-flat attempts at humor, delivered by egregiously poor acting. Ms McCarthy is involved in this show? That's a shame, a taint on her otherwise outstanding career.

Champions: Season 17

Based upon the pilot, I like this show. The emotion is there to draw you in. The writers are building a foundation upon which to build a story. It's early, but I like it. It stays on my ToDo list. I want to see where the writers go with this.

Living Biblically: Season 16
Mar 1, 2018
I used to wait until I watched a few episodes before I wrote a review. But now, for some reason, I prefer to dive right in and update later on if something changes my opinion. So here goes... based upon the pilot only... The show is still on my DVR's "to be recorded" list. The premise of the show, to live completely by the Bible, is a challenging one. The show has two directions to go in... show the foolishness of living by the Bible, in literal sense. Or go with the "this is what it really means" interpretation. Either way, the show has an uphill battle, it has chosen a battle in which it can only lose. But I hope it succeeds. There is mush to be learned from the Bible. And there is much in the Bible that should be, ummm, taken less seriously. For example, as the pilot showed (though not as intense as the Bible describes), stoning a person. I guess what I'm saying is that this show is walking in delicate territory. I wish it the best. But when the Bible is involved, all bets are off.

LA to Vegas: Season 12
Jan 7, 2018
The premise of LA to Vegas reminds me of the show The Guest Book, i.e., a core cast of characters with a new group of supporting characters each week. The plane's captain is just wrong for the role, or maybe the script is mis-written for him. Either way, I've started to skip past his scenes, as they add little to the show. Maybe it will work better than The Guest Book (not difficult to do) but I doubt it. The premise seems too contrived. I'm going to watch a couple more weeks with the hope it improves.

9-1-1: Season 17
Jan 7, 2018
I was a big fan of Emergency! back in the day, and this show is a lot like a flashback to that show, albeit with a bit more of the home life thrown in. The situations are all well portrayed, I could feel the tension of the scene. That wise-ass firefighter has to go, though. It looks like the character was placed there just to provide a foil, but it detracts from the sense of the show. Either give him a life-changing event that straightens him out, or transfer him out of the show. Overall, it's a well-done show with actors that work well in their roles.

Young Sheldon: Season 12
Nov 29, 2017
I really wanted to like this show, but it just does not work for me. As I mentioned back in September (see below), I don't look at this show purely as a comedy but more of a bio-sit-com. My main issue with the show is that it is aggressively boring. There's no laff track, but to compensate for that feature, there's the intrusive and annoying Sheldon commentary track. Sometimes I feel as if I'm listening to the audiobook of Sheldon's childhood, read by Sheldon himself. That's not why I watch TV. The cast seems quite capable, but even great actors can't carry a poor premise of a show.. I still like that scene in the first episode about the musical chords. If only that spark could have been conveyed through the subsequent episodes of the show. But that brilliance of script has been lost somewhere after episode 1. It now seems to be little more than a 'family with children' show. Young Sheldon appears to be an unnatural spin-off of BBT. A failed attempt to capitalize upon the success of the early BBT years. And it's off the ToDo list of shows for my DVR to record. ======================================= my previous comment from Sept 27, 2017 follows... Based solely upon the pilot: On the plus side,... Iain Armitage fills out the character quite well, in spite of the script let-downs. The lack of a laugh track is most welcome as the canned laughter on BBT has become most annoying and distractive. Any canned laughter here would be completely out of place, as this does not look to be a typical sitcom, but I'm sure that wouldn't stop the producers from over-using it. I liked the music scene with the chords, and how it explained a trait of the BBT Sheldon. That was one of the better scenes in the pilot. --- Not on the plus side... Is there any way to turn off the Sheldon commentary track? It would be much better if any needed details that Mr Parsons blabs on top of a scene were conveyed by the characters themselves, it certainly would give character development a needed boost. Because of the association to his character on BBT, Mr Parsons' voice is annoyingly grating whenever it appears. That segues to the writing. It could be stronger. The dramatic scenes were too sappy in their efforts to evoke emotion. They became tedious to watch. Was the incorporation of the Sheldon commentary track a cave-in to allow Mr Parsons to participate, or was it to cover weak writing? I think it may be a combination of the two. --- I don't want to write too much, as I saw only one show, usually I like to watch three before I give my opinions. Now there's a wait of more than a month before any more episodes appear. I'll have to see if I retain enough interest to track it down and watch. If I do, I'll probably be back around Thanksgiving time with more comments. :)

Kevin Can Wait: Season 21
Nov 12, 2017
I liked season 1 of this show. There were some rough spots, but there was enough good comedy to keep my interest all season. For season two, some bright spark got the idea to turn the show into "The Return of King of Queens." I liked KoQ a lot, and I still watch it at times in reruns. But... Bringing back Ms Remini as a foil to Mr James' lead character in this show was not an optimum decision. The chemistry between the two is gone. Watch a few KoQ episodes, and then watch one or two of Kevin Can Wait episodes. In comparison, Kevin Can Wait seems to be forced, with the actors appearing just to be reading their lines. KCW is off the ToDo list of my DVR. I tried to watch it, but it just was not worth the time I had to spend.

I'm still not seeing what all the commotion is about this show. I tried watching it again this season, and I still found it a humorless, depressing show about a person's frustration with life. I am left wondering - what is the allure of this show?

9JKL: Season 11
Oct 3, 2017
Wow, this is bad. OK, I've only seen the pilot. OK, I've only seen the first half of the pilot. I got halfway through and I punted. I don't remember a show where I bailed halfway through the pilot. This reminds me so much of the Paul Reiser Show. I enjoyed Mr Feuerstein's performances on Good Morning Miami and Royal Pains. The latter was a very good show, imo. But here, the 'in your face parents' are too much. Way too much. I like the scenes in the lobby. I laughed with those. Kudos to Mr Murray and Mr Tsai. But there is far too much of the interfering parents. Yeah, I know that is the premise of this series. That's why I think it is doomed.

The Orville: Season 15
Oct 2, 2017
This show is like chewing-gum for the mind. There's not a lot of depth to it, but it's fun to watch. At least parts of it are. Other parts are drawn out to be much longer than they should be. The episodes where the show tries to tackle deep issues (such the episode with as the female baby), well, the show's weak writing foundation crumples under the load of what it is trying to say. This is a fun show. Mr. MacFarlane's Captain is more reminiscent of Kirk than Picard. If only the writing were on a par with the graphics, I'd probably give the show an 8 or 9. The stories seem to be too familiar, it is the "don't take yourself seriously" style of this show that helps it to stand out from the rest of the pack. But it does not stand out too far.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 11
Oct 2, 2017
The bar had been set way too high for this premiere episode. It had to be good enough to convince the potential audience that the $6 per month for CBS streaming was "worth it." It's not. ST:NG got off to an uneasy start, but it quickly got its space-legs over the course of the first season and turned into one of the better SciFi TV shows. Sadly, I'll never know if ST:Discovery gets better. The pilot was so bad that I don't even care, nor am I interested in, what happens to the characters as the series unfolds. $6 per month in order to watch this show? Who is CBS kidding?

Me, Myself and I: Season 12
Sep 27, 2017
I watched the pilot, and I then removed it from the ToDo list of my DVR. It seems too contrived, like Life In Pieces but not as good. Life in Pieces keeps the time coordinates fairly stable, and moves through space. MM&I keeps the space coordinates fairly stable and moves through time. The pilot, for me, was a waste of time. I found it neither funny nor interesting. I gave it a 2 instead of 0 because they tried. Next time, I hope they try harder.

The McCarthys: Season 17
Aug 17, 2017
This show is turning out to be quite good. The first couple of episodes were on less than solid ground, quality-wise. But the show has been rallying to excellence with the past two or three episodes. I'm happy to have hung in there.... I was turned off by the summertime pre-season promotions about a ~Boston sports-oriented family~. The show is not about that at all. It *is* about the intra-relations of a family, and the love among those family members. Yah, sports is a secondary theme. The writing is up to the task, and the cast seems to have that spark that makes for a successful comedy ensemble. They truly seem to have fun working together. I like this show.

The Great Indoors: Season 18
Apr 13, 2017
I've been recording and watching this show since episode 1. The first couple of episodes were cringe-worthy, but I saw the actors portraying their characters quite well. So I decided to stick with it for a few more episodes. I have to admit, this one was a sleeper. The cast grew into their characters and the show developed an aspect. I like it. I look forward to watching the show each week. The characters are most excellently cast in the roles they play. The whole scenario of the show is quite current, and quite entertaining in its viewport. Yeah, this one is one of the good comedies to premier this season. Keep it comi'

Nobodies: Season 11
Apr 11, 2017
Really? Someone thinks this show is a comedy? So far the two episodes I've seen have been scripted disaster shows, with nothing funny happening. The premise of the show, while probably happening on a daily basis somewhere in Hollywood is conveyed with such over-acting by poor actors that it becomes non-believable. I've taken this show out of my DVR's "to be recorded" list, and do not plan to waste any more of my time watching it.

Mom: Season 48
Dec 20, 2016
This is one tough show to review. Let me start off by saying I do not consider this to be a sitcom. I do not know how to characterize this show, but I do not consider it to be a sitcom. I like this show. I hate this show. I really like this show. If the previous three sentences don't make sense to you, you now have a feeling of what I am struggling through to write this review. This is a show of a new genre. A scripted reality show? A real scripted show? Regardless. Mom addresses real and important issues that are prevalent in our society, but are often suppressed within our society. I hate watching this show. But I have to watch this show. If only I had never seen the pilot, maybe I would be free of this indecision. But the cast (I had known Allison Janney from her superb performance in The West Wing series) and Chuck Lorre drew me to watch the first season. The entire cast on this show is nothing short of excellent. The writing is excellent as well. So why do I have so much trouble with the show. I guess it is the issues the show tackles each week. It makes me confront my feelings and opinions in a way that no sitcom should. I guess that is why I say this is not a sitcom. It is a very good show. And I continue to recommend it.

The Big Bang Theory: Season 101
Dec 20, 2016
I really, really wanted season 10 to be better, oh, how much I wanted season 10 to be better. It is better than seasons 8 and 9, but that is not saying a lot. Seasons 8 and 9 set the bar quite low, oh so low. TBBT has turned from a unique and humorous TV show about geeks in a non-geek world into yet another hang-out sitcom with trite sitcom situations. Bernadette is expecting a baby. The contractions are getting closer. Oops, false alarm. OK, now the contractions start again and its not a false alarm. Chaos as everyone tries to get to the hospital. Oh wow, this scenario has never been done in as sitcom before. And the laff track. The obnoxious, intrusive laff track. The laughs on the laff track are so much more prominent than the comedy of the scene has earned. When the producers feel they need to tell me when I should be laughing, that alone should be a big red flag for them that something is amiss in this comedy show. But that simple fact seems to be lost on the producers of TBBT. I remember Mr. Lorre's Vanity Card # 282: ****?p=282 Oh for the good old days when The Big Bang Theory actually was funny enough to have a live studio audience laughing. Speaking of a live studio audience... the show now feels as if it is pieced together in an editing room. The continuity of the show within a scene is lost. It almost appears as if the actors are recorded in the scene separately, and placed into the script by an editor. The soul of the character is lost in the lack of continuity within a scene. The actors seems to be reading lines instead of acting a role. (though, Mr Parsons' character does seem a lot less plastic this season. He's trying. ) On the plus side, the actors do seem to enjoy working together. Will that be enough to carry the show forward? I wish I knew. For me, this show is on the verge of being removed from my TiVo's ToDo list. It is not worth watching anymore.

People of Earth: Season 19
Dec 5, 2016
Well, this show turned out to be quite the surprise. A refreshingly original and enjoyable comedy, one of the best new comedy shows that I have seen in a long while. Yeah, sadly, it's been a while since a new comedy show has caused me to have some good laughs. The premise of the show is a simple one. The writing and character development hits it out of the park. I really enjoy the scenes aboard the space ship. They are a hilarious parody of office comedies. The characters in the self-help group are diverse, yet they seem to somehow mesh. I think that speaks excellently for the writing. I even enjoy watching the promotional ads for this show, and I *always* skip ads on my DVR. But I find myself backing up and playing the promo if I happen to catch the tail-end of it coming out of a commercial break. I find myself always looking forward to the next episode. This is a good, fun show.

Mars: Season 13
Nov 17, 2016
I watched the first episode of Mars last night. I guess that since the show was appearing on the National Geographic channel, I was expecting to see more science reality and less science fiction. But no. Who puts lights on the *inside* of the helmets? I mean, really. And that's just the beginning of the ridiculousness here. Scientific reality, well, for this series you can kiss it good-bye. For the first episode, Mars has started to look as if the plans were being laid for a science-fiction soap opera. Scenes were played for suspense, to hook the viewers. I cannot see myself wasting any more time watching a b-grade sci-fi show, so I removed it from my DVR's recording schedule. This series belongs on TLC as a low-grade pseudo-reality sci-fi series. NatGeo, c'mon, you can do better than this over-hyped mediocrity. I know you can do better.

The Daily Show: Season 224
Nov 3, 2016
Last year, Mr Noah's first season on the show, I gave a so-so rating to the show with the comment that I'd give Mr Noah some time to make the show into what he wants it to be. Well, it appears that has occurred. Jon Stewart's Daily Show was insightful news commentary and analysis told against a background of comedy. There was a lot of research and thought that went into the show. The comedy was mostly the absurdity of was was being talked about. Unfortunately, the Daily Show nowadays is little more than a comedy act that reads news headlines and goes off on short (15- to 30-second) comedy riffs based upon the headline. The depth that Mr Stewart brought to the show has been lost. The Daily Show has turned into any one of the many other comedy shows on Comedy Central, shows that are attuned to superficial stand-up comedy. The comedy (if I can call it that) of the Daily Show is no longer the absurdity of the news, but failed attempts of the host trying to be funny. I watch the Daily Show via my DVR, usually the following afternoon. I find myself fast-forwarding through major sections of the show because I'm not really a fan of second-rate stand-up comedy. Unless there's a significant change for the better, I doubt I'll be watching the Daily Show come next year.

Kevin Can Wait: Season 17
Sep 22, 2016
I liked the pilot episode and I'm looking forward to see how the show grows. The pilot's plot set up the scenario for a possible direction for the show. There were a couple of out-loud laughs, and a near-continuous smile on my face throughout the show. I've watched Kevin James on TV and in movies, but I cannot say that I'm a loyal fan. I enjoy his comedy when it's funny. So far, I think this show is funny.

What a dismal show. The coming attractions of the past month had set the bar pretty low, yet the pilot episode didn't even clear the lowered bar. If you're having a really good day, and want to quell the happiness, this looks like the show to watch.

Wrecked (2016): Season 13
Jun 16, 2016
I sat through the first two episodes, with a day between them. I had originally intended to watch the two back to back, but the first one was so tedious, I needed a break. Maybe my problem with Wrecked is that I never caught on to enjoying the series Lost, and this show looks as if it may be trying to be a parody of that series. Regardless, I didn't find the comedy to be the least bit funny, and the writing level was juvenile. I'll watch a couple more episodes before I decide whether or not to tell the DVR to stop recording it each week. But, based upon what I've seen so far, I'm hoping, but not expecting, to change my mind.

BrainDead: Season 18
Jun 16, 2016
After watching the pilot, I have to say I like the show, and I'm looking forward to the next episodes. The pilot was rough in a couple of parts, but it continued to hold on to my interest for the entire hour, somewhat of an accomplishment for an hour-long show. I really like the current political backdrop that seems present on the abundant TV screens on the sets. The writing keeps the show moving along quickly, so pay attention. Smooth over the few rough spots, and this show could be an ideal comedic-thriller to get me through what is looking like a long, hot summer in the world of real politics.

You, Me and the Apocalypse: Season 15
Feb 4, 2016
I watched the pilot episode so far. I came away with the feeling that this was going to develop into a Lost type of show, built mostly upon flashbacks and 'what they were doing when' type of story arcs. There was another show a couple of seasons back where an airliner was going to crash into something, and they tried to develop a similar set of story arcs. If YMatA does as well as Lost, good for them. But shows with a lot of flashbacks rarely keep my interests.

Angie Tribeca: Season 11
Jan 26, 2016
A blatant rip-off of Police Squad and its movie, Naked Gun, and a pretty poor rip-off at that. Angie Tribeca was painfully boring. It wasn't funny. Groan-worthy, yes. Funny, no. I guess once you've seen a sight-gag police-oriented TV series and movie, you've seen them all. The odd thing is that I still enjoy watching Police Squad and Naked Gun. Maybe Angie Tribeca is just a poor attempt at a comedy.....

Mom: Season 38
Nov 12, 2015
Back in Season 1 of Mom, I wrote that I originally didn't like the show but stuck with it due to the actors involved and Chuck Lorre. I also wrote, "the show is hitting important issues". Well, going in to season number three, I'm still watching. This is not an easy sitcom to watch, and I mean that as a compliment. The show tackles tough issues, issues that need to be addressed, if for no other reason than to bring them more into the forefront of discussion. The season opener this year was a great example. I had to hit pause a couple of times as emotions overwhelmed me. But I was glad I stayed with it through to the end of the episode. I don't want to have to put a spoiler alert on this review, so I'll stop there. This show really doesn't fit into the sitcom category, but I don't know how else to categorize it, as it is breaking some new ground. I'll be watching for another season....

The Grinder: Season 12
Oct 5, 2015
I was hoping for a good, fun comedy, instead I found a ridiculous premise amplified by sketchy writing. I thought the writing would have been better to support the quality and strength of the cast. But in the pilot episode, I found my mind wandering off, thinking about more enjoyable things. I took the show off my DVR's list of shows to record each week. I had such high hopes.....

Grandfathered: Season 17
Oct 5, 2015
I liked the pilot. The characters worked well together, the plot came over well. The cast is good and the characters were developed well. Yes, the show has some growing to do, but it is among the better pilots I've seen so far this season. It will be interesting to see how the storyline develops as the episodes unfold.

Dr. Ken: Season 10
Oct 5, 2015
For the past month or so, my TiVo has been showing advertisements for this show on top of the recorded show I was watching. The advertisements appeared multiple times an hour. So I was wondering about the show, why so many advanced advertisements? Why interrupt my TiVo viewing with the blue Dr. Ken adverts? Was the show really so bad that it needed all those advertisements? Well, after watching the pilot, I can safely say that the show was worse than I had thought. I feel sorry for the cast and crew of this show put their time and effort into it. This show is probably one of the worst pilots I've ever watched....

Life in Pieces: Season 12
Sep 24, 2015
I just sat through the pilot for this show. I was underwhelmed. It wasn't a sitcom based upon humor, it was a sitcom based upon awkward situations. It wasn't funny, it was cringe-worthy. For now, I'm going to leave it on the DVR to record each week, I plan to watch a couple more episodes to see if the humor picks up, Hopefully it will pick up a bit as the actors get more comfortable working with each other.

Two and a Half Men: Season 121
Jan 26, 2015
At this point, I just want this series to end. I'm watching it only because I've watched it for 11 years of my life. I have this closure thing sometimes (though not for USA's Suits, which has jumped the shark). Season 12 of TaaHM is poor to fair, at best. The Alan character is tedious and flat. The plot is contrived. I'm looking forward to the one hour finale only to see this train wreck come to an end. In the past I've said that Mr Sheen left the show because the writers ran out of ideas. I am only more firm in that belief. This show ran out of steam a loooong time ago.

Galavant: Season 11
Jan 10, 2015
If you're a tween who like to sing along with the TV shows, this one is for you. The acting was far too over the top to be convincing. It became less than enjoyable to watch.

About A Boy: Season 21
Jan 10, 2015
I thoroughly enjoyed the first season. I was concerned when the second season seemed to ave had some, ummmm, delays. I find myself fast forwarding through the shows of the second season, trying to reduce the cringe factor. What happened? The show has lost what initially attracted me to it. It has become weird. and odd. And not in a good, engaging way.

The Big Bang Theory: Season 83
Nov 24, 2014
I had planned to write this review earlier in the season, but I decided to wait until I had seen a few more episodes to see if the show were just getting off to a slow start this season. Unfortunately it wasn't just a slow start, the show has not cleared the quality bar of the first few seasons. Granted all the reruns of the first three seasons are presenting a high bar to clear. The laugh track is very intrusive this year. At times i wonder if the laugh track was turned up, or the comedy has been turned down. I'm leaning towards the latter. The laugh track seems out of place because the show isn't as funny as the laugh track suggests. During one of the first two or three shows this season, there was a conversation between Penny and Bernadette about Penny getting a job at Bernie's company. The video editing that pieced that conversation together was, I'll be kind, sloppily choppy. I was left with the impression that the show was running long, and they had to cut a few seconds out of it. Sadly, parts of words seemed to have been sacrificed in order to find those precious seconds. The main actors on the show seem to be just going through the motions this year. They seem more as if they were sitting around a conference room reading the script, than acting out the script on scene. The characters have lost their soul. I've watched BBT since the original broadcast of the very first episode. I've liked Chuck Lorre comedies going back to Cybil. I cannot imagine how BBT is going to be engaging for two and a half more seasons unless the writing improves very significantly.

Madam Secretary: Season 16
Sep 27, 2014
The pilot was very good. The cast is also very good. The plot is much less focused on backstabbing than Scandal, which is also very good. So why only a "6"? The time slot is horrible, given that the NFL cannot get their games to end on time and the start of this show is bumped. If the start of any of the next few shows is bumped to a later time by late-running NFL games, I'll probably just defer watching this show until the summer reruns make the rounds.

Red Band Society: Season 16
Sep 25, 2014
I'm torn on this show. Overall, I think it is a very good show. Lots of positive, good TV here. But I'm not the audience for this show. It looks to me as a TV show for teens and young adult. From that viewpoint, I think it would be a good solid 8. But it's not for me.

Mom: Season 15
Aug 8, 2014
OK. This is the first time I am altering a previous review here on MC. Because of Chuck Lorre and the actors involved in this show, I continued to record and watch it. It got better. Much better. I still think the actors are getting their legs, and the show is hitting important issues. I like that. So Mom is back on my TiVo's ToDo list. And the important second-season is on the horizon. I'll be watching.....
