Between a strong cast and overall writing, Going Dutch comes together to make not only a standout, off-beat comedy, but a show that’s hard to ignore. Through clever direction and effortless performances, it's exactly what the sitcom has been waiting for.

Leary is unquestionably the star, but the way he interacts with everyone else doesn’t make him seem like the star of their lives. It’s also just funnier [than "Shifting Gears"].

The show is essentially conventional and can be more than a bit silly. .... But really did enjoy it, even on a second viewing of the three available episodes, and increasingly as the series pushed at the boundaries of its premise.

“Going Dutch” easily amuses, especially in Patrick’s interactions with underlings like Sergeant Dana Conway (Laci Mosley, of the podcast “Scam Goddess”) and Corporal Elias Papadakis (Hal Cumpston). .... Like a wheel of aging gouda, other elements of “Going Dutch” may need more time to mature.

The largely unfunny pilot of Going Dutch would normally lead us to give the show a “skip it,” but given the showrunner’s pedigree and the interpersonal potential of the father-daughter story, we’re giving the show a chance to improve.

It’s a series with immediately settled characters and performances plus colorful (if overly sanitized) dialogue, but a questionable sense of episodic storytelling.

he material here doesn’t give Leary much to play with and he seems to be mostly phoning it in any way, relying more on his reputation as a funny grump than actually delivering a performance. Captain Quinn doesn’t do much better.

So, I've been a huge fan of some of Denis Leary's TV work, but this is no "Rescue Me" -- nor is it even close to the quality of "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll". His characters on those shows felt real, but this one feels more like a caricature. I've also been a huge fan of Danny Pudi on "Community" -- but his acting also seems forced here. However, a lot of TV shows had a really rough start only to turn into something special later on -- and thus far, I've only seen the pilot -- so I'll give this another couple of episodes to see if they find their footing.

Looks like a copy-cat series from the prior "Enlisted" series. Similar plot ... a person shot off his mouth and gets banished to an obscure military base.

This series is titled going Dutch There are some refferences But when you write dorf instead of dorp you never googled dutch language or visit the netherlands. Putting french and luxembourg flags as face paint instead of just putting red white blue under eachother they used the french pattern and even wrong colors on some faces (was the facepaint out of stock) This series may be funny and has korfbal and tulips but thats the only thing dutch in this series. Fox should do a better job.

Stereotypes are fine, but if you do them ... get them right! The names and accents were more German than Dutch. 'Traditional' clothing was wrong. Scenery was definitely not Dutch. Whoever wrote this did zero research. Well ... at least they got the legalized drugs and prostitution right.
