It’s mostly about getting through the day, about getting through the week, about getting through life. It’s angry but never bitter. Joyful but never saccharine. It feels a little like magic.

This is a huge leap forward for a show that was already quite strong. ... Adlon comes as close to a pure auteur as TV gets. That her story is one imbued with both sadness and light makes Better Things one of television's very best shows—in any genre.

Wow, just wow! I been touched so deeply by this show. I mean it had me under its spell all the time, towards the end of the second season I was crying and laughing couple of times within one episode and Im a 32 years old man :)

In Better Things, he [Louis C.K] and Adlon are able to transcend such concerns and tell fresh stories from a fresh angle for an audaciously intelligent take on responsibility, independence, and uncensored love.

Better Things makes its own leap by getting smaller, more intimate, and more focused. ... This was a great show in that first year. It’s even greater now.

Better Things gets better--truer and deeper--when Sam is taken by surprise (as when her ex-husband shows up unexpectedly for dinner, or when a pet dies) or when she’s jolted out of her self-absorption by a parental obligation that yields a small revelation for her. Adlon is very good at depicting Sam in mid-mixed-emotions.

Season 2 is a tremendous leap forward. The show has additional texture this season, with a stronger curiosity about its characters and its frankness and intimacy feel fully earned.

What anchors Better Things is the warmth Sam feels for her family. What makes it works are the tiny human moments.

This is simply beautiful television, Ive never viewed it as comedy more as tragedy. The mother is such a complex and interesting women, and her complex and sometimes sad relationships with her family are glaringly real, and touching. The very last scene was fantastic.

Still puts a smile on my face now and again, but it's not going anywhere is it. It's not any funnier second season, character development, they are just settling in, bit like the fourth year of marriage. A slice of life is great now and a gain, but how many slices do you need, before you get bored and move onto the rest of the buffet?

Not funny, no dramatic threads, Pamela Adlon can't act. I guess its supposed to be slice of life of divorced women with kids, doesn't work. HIghest rated tv show on metacritic? Every other show in the top 50 on metacritic vastly superior.

It isn't Avant-Garde to make a comedy that isn't funny. This show isn't the least bit funny. I for one am tired of seeing kids in these shows act like monsters and the grown ups just accepting it. This show takes that and everything else to the most horrendous extreme. There isn't a single moment by a single character in this show that isn't annoying. I just find it impossible to believe that neither the makers of this crap not the network that airs it didn't notice how awful this show is when they previewed it. The most pathetic thing is that the actors in this show try so hard, and overact so much, it is painfully obvious that they recognize how awful this material is. Stop the bleeding and cancel this train-wreck before careers are ruined.

More liberal propaganda, this show is complete **** but has a single mom in it so every PC review site gives it a 10 without watching. Great shows this year like stranger things, mindhunter or game of thrones deserve that 96 rating, not this liberal piece of crap!
