Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Spoiler FREE! Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is everything that a sequel should be. I was already a huge fan of the first Death Stranding, and this sequel gave me everything I could’ve asked for out of it and more. Basically just look at my review of the first game. It evokes that same atmospheric feel and elevates the game in every other aspect. The game has far better pacing than the first and allows you to pretty much get into the meat of the gameplay from the jump. I also truly believe that this is the first game that has released this console generation that feels like it’s pushing it to its limit. The visuals and dynamic weather systems in this game are straight up jaw dropping and performance is some of the best I’ve seen. I truly believe this game is a near perfect masterpiece. My GOTY so far no doubt.

(If I could rate this like an 8.8 or something I would. It’s a 9 because imo it’s closer to a 9 than an 8.) Death Stranding just hit me in a way most games don’t. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the vibe, the music, the beautiful visuals, and that feeling of being alone in a big sci-fi post-apocalyptic America while working towards bringing it together to stop an extinction. All of it immediately hooked me. The story starts off very slow and throughout the game leaves loads of room for questions, but with the connective tissue of the lore (interviews, mail, memory chips, etc.) and the big reveals at the end, it pieces together beautifully to, in my opinion, tell one of the best stories I’ve ever experienced. Some moments straight up had me speechless. The game tugs at your emotions and thoughts like strings subtly at first, then all at once making you question everything about its world, life, death, connection, and the meaning behind it all. You get deeply invested in the characters not just through the main story, but through the scattered fragments of their lives revealed in the smallest details. The world building is dense, almost slightly haunting and mysterious, and full of depth, creating a setting that feels lived in and eerily **** game does a really good job at making you feel immersed in its world, with the core gameplay loop quite literally requiring you to use the tools you craft and use them to interact with and traverse the open world. It’s slow, yeah, and it’s not for everyone, but that’s part of what makes it special. Taking in the beautiful environments, the music, the story, and the solitude all come together to form something truly unforgettable. Easily in my top 5 gaming experiences ever. Nothing else feels quite like it, and I can’t wait for what Death Stranding 2 has in store.

A true masterpiece, this is the first game I’ve played in a while where there hasn’t been a single moment of boredom. The game is truly beautiful both narratively and visually. Just rolled credits a few minutes ago and am speechless. Crazy feat for a team of only 30 developers.

The PS5 version of undisputed is in an even worse state than the PC version of the game while obviously still having all of the same core gameplay issues that have been unchanged for the last two years of early access with the exception of two mechanics. Please save your money until they seem like they genuinely care about fixing the game and delivering the product they once promised fans. Nearly every fighter that isn’t Roy jones, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier or Canelo Alvarez all feel like reskins of each other and that includes Terence Crawford, sugar ray Leonard, sugar ray Robinson, etc.. the whole roster basically. It’s also insane that some of the present issues with the game made it through play testing which had gone on for months on end with constant feedback, it genuinely just seems like they wanted to just push this out and make a quick buck while charging for a DLC pack of fighters that also feel like reskins of fighters in the game. Caleb plant, Jaime munguia, dmitry bivol, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Jesse Rodriguez all feel like fighters you’ll find on the rest of the roster and feel almost nothing like you’d expect them to. Also the “launch trailer” is borderline false advertisement.. showcasing being able to train in gyms which you can’t, and visuals that look nothing like what you’ll see in game. Definitely do not recommend currently, but still keep an eye on the game maybe they pull off a miracle.

The game has a somewhat decent foundation mechanically, and that’s being generous. But largely feels unfinished and unpolished across the board. Graphics have seen tremendous downgrade since even the start of early access in some areas and altogether since the initial gameplay walkthroughs. Gameplay is pretty shallow and unrealistic while being littered with game breaking bugs and poor balancing when it comes to stats and stamina/damage. All in all the game comes no where close to feeling like what a next gen exclusive “authentic” boxing game should. That leads to the next major issue. They advertise the game as being an authentic representation of the sport yet that couldn’t be less true. Majority of the fighters in the game fight nothing like their real life counterparts when it comes to their stats and even overall animation. The game is way too floaty and spammy rather than it being more grounded and taking thought and intricate placement of punches and distance which they once heavily advocated for but have since quietly strayed away from while still promoting it to be as such vocally. Also their recent “launch trailer” has what I would honestly consider to be false advertisement. It shows a few shots of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk facing off in a venue that looks nothing like it does in the actual game when you get your hands on it. Overall a very poor product and almost feels like a cash grab. They haven’t listened to their community at all over the two year course of early access and have somehow even backtracked on certain aspects and made them worse while not being very transparent. Online connectivity issues are also probably some of the worst I’ve seen in a video game ever the last few generations.
