The Adam Project is a sweet and funny science fiction film that doesn't let Reynolds overrun it with his schtick in spite of them managing to find an exceptional minime clone. It only barely feels like it was made in lockdown with the small cast and cosy cabins making it feel more intimate than it would have been with if it were made five years ago, which only adds to the sentiment giving it seem real heart. Reynolds and Levy seem to work well together so I'm looking forwards to what they have next.

Lovely movie, might not be a ten out of ten for everyone but it exactly met my tastes and left me tearful yet happy. Kyle and the gang really, really put on a great show. If you're a sentimentalist who enjoys some quirkiness it should be right up your alley too.

Over long, dull, miserable self indulgent codswallop that purely relies on undue nostalgia for any positivity. Ironically the biggest problem are the plot holes which a spawned by a character who's main power is making holes. He goes from godlike powers to being unable to do things back to being a god with no clear reasoning or rules obeying these restraints, it's just magic, so there! Deal with it! All in all, just a big waste of time.

Seems like a big split between the critics (I feel guilty about negging 2016 so now I need to find fault with 2021+nostalgia guilt) and the audience (hey that was ok, I remember that stuff from some old film+these new people are nice) which is almost as amusing as the film itself. Why the discord? It's ok to look back at the past and remember things and people fondly, don't feel bad, just so long as you don't obsessively dwell in the past, as in re-watching OG Ghostbusters 200 times and know it inside and out. The movie was fun, felt sincere (they didn't put words into anyone's mouth like Di$ney) and the callbacks are great for the kids to spot. It was nice to see the has beens who just showed up and didn't really help anyway but the film was all about the new characters. All in all it was like opening an old photo album, looking back on the old times, then adding new pictures to the leaves at the back. There's nothing wrong with that, don't feel bad, just put the book back on the shelf and get on with your life afterwards.

Certainly not perfect but a wonderful (sic) adventure where we see no real villain and the hero is truly heroic rather than just a cheesy badass. With the negatives in the the characters being caused by character flaws, lust or fear of failing their child or losing the one they love the movie immediately adds more thought than the average comic book movie where the baddie is the baddie because that's just what they are. In this the baddie is flawed and with temptation those flaws threaten to destroy them and all they love. It's not black and white clarity which some might have a problem with, along with the fanastical events that follow. If you can step out of your conventional mind and go with the flow, appreciate the sentiments of the film you'll get a lot out of it. But if you just want to see Wonder Woman be a badass CGI monster puncher you're going to be disappointed.

Good fun and great to hear a real-life success story I knew nothing about. Stephen Merchant crossed with The Rock seems like a weird combination at first glance, even if I had seen The Tooth Fairy, but somehow it all comes together. Everyone sells in their roles although Nick Frost comes a lot more cosy than the real deal and Sweet Saraya must be overjoyed to be played by Lena Headley. With all the honesty about the behind the scenes of wrestling it would have been nice to see a scene with AJ Lee, Page and 'Hutch Morgan' explaining why she was being given such a big break, that the WWE needed to broaden it's audience as the women's draw had been shallow and stagnant beforehand. Even if they had just phrased it as 'we need a real wrestler rather than cheerleaders and models' calling back to earlier in the film. But I don't think Merchant's eyes were entirely on the wheel giving me impression that he thought the job was well within his weight class when wrestling contains a little more nuance than it first suggests.

Putting up a charisma vacuum against Samuel L Jackson (even a if it's only a virtual SLJ) isn't a smart move. Really just a typical Marvel movie, just with pandering 90s nostalgia and adding a big dollop of Guardians of the Galaxy, although with no credit to James Gunn who's been dumped without thanks. Whilst trying to milk a fresh demographic as they did so successfully last year with Black Panther they just make stupid decisions which hamper the sentiment of the audience they are trying their best to please. Exposition at the beginning whilst leaving the main character in amnesiac confusion just makes her look clueless whilst at the same time boring everyone who's seen it all before. The plot twist (it's not a spoiler as they state the race of the 'heros' at the start of the film spoiling the already obvious twist for anyone who's paid attention for the preceding films) has been done to death. The music makes no sense half the time, did the directors even see the start of of GOTG2 where it shows that the sound track has to be coming from somewhere not just blaring No Doubt for reasons. As for the blue blood coming out of Captain Marvel's nose, that was just a deceit to make you think there's more depth than there really is. Good job that blue blood was AB negative or she'd be in trouble!

Saw this with my daughter, who is Mr Smith purported target audience and as a long time podcast listener we were both bored out of our minds. We managed to get to Johnny Depp's second scene and she wanted out. I caved and skipped to the action scenes at the end and although she was more amused all I could think was that Gremlins did it all better. It's just not funny, everything misses, I wouldn't even know where to begin picking apart it's flaws. It's top down, inside and out. Maybe as a Smith/Depp family movie I'm sure they love it but as a fan of Kevin Smith's 8 stories he keeps retelling endlessly on his podcasts and as a dad I was sorely disappointed. Last word for my daughter: Boring!

Better than the pre-quels. Better than the Ewoks films. Better than the Holiday Special. Better than Star Trek 11 and 12. Basically just a remake of Star Wars but with a better script. Could have done with a little trimming. **** symbolism was antiquated and ham fisted for example. Oh I dunno, it was alright I guess. I'll let the kids see this one at least.

Absolutely superb film, absolutely made up for the current run of staid and moronic Bond films and made me want to turn around and go back in for another viewing. Everyone played it spot on, well Mark Strong's accent excluded, note perfect. The action was smart and poetically choreographed and you could actually see what was going on for a change. The script was great, made plenty of sense, for once in a modern film I wasn't gritting my teeth at the illogic or plot holes. In short smashing job everyone.

I came in not expecting too much but was very happy with the film. Yes there were a few throwaway tribute gags to the old boxing films and by half way through things get a little predictable. But I can enjoy the virtues of the film. The problem with modern films to me is that characters do things that don't make sense and just act to move the film forward, this incongruence is glaring but in this case each character was actually acting in character. Not really a fan of DeNiro, his performances are usually that showy, he doesn't usually play an actual human being more panto villain. Stallone was his usual old self and didn't embarrass himself and everyone else in the case were great, Arkin didn't emulate Meredith at all which was a great choice and Hart was pretty amusing as the comedy relief. The critic snobbery is of course no surprise, they hate anything with Stallone, this is fact. They could have written their reviews months ago, they are that predictable. I'm giving it a ten because I liked the characters and script that's what I'm all about.

Whatever you do do not take your kids to watch this film. They will resent you for weeks to come, it's just so damned boring. They will scream at you and moan at you as they watch it and hate you when you come out. Now if you're a grown up don't bother either, shallow, predictable and just plain boring. You have been warned.
