The Adam Project is a thoughtful, witty mash-up of all the movies from my childhood. It’s Back to the Future meets The Last Starfighter with a slew of wonderful performances from a cast that clearly loves the concept as much as I do. Ryan Reynolds is on top form as Adam, while Walker Scobell matches him punch for punch with a great debut performance.

The Adam Project is zippy, agreeable sci-fi fun that produces a few good chuckles. But in moments where undiluted sweetness is required, the film’s glib writing stands out in a negative way.

When this time travel story is at its best, it gives Reynolds space to convey the frustration one can have about their past, including when facing their younger self. The movie doesn’t fill out this concept with too much imagination about time travel or villains, but it does wind up with a powerful parable about healing.

Ripples in time create holes in the plot, but Reynolds and his younger self patch over the missing piece with incredibly watchable charisma.

This movie is not entirely worthless. Reynolds and Scobell have amusing chemistry together that evokes a lot of ’80s buddy comedies in a fresh way; here is a movie about the tired trope of mismatched partners where the mismatched partners are actually the same person.

The tone here aims for a vague combination of time-travelling romps like Back to the Future and Flight of the Navigator plus time-travelling weepies like Forever Young and The Lake House. It wears both those tones unconvincingly, like a serial killer in a skin suit.

There’s almost nothing the film does well, but that doesn’t stop it donning a winner’s smirk while it copies every 1980s science fiction smash you’ve ever seen.

This movie should first and foremost be considered a family movie. The action and Sci-fi comes in second hand and yes, if you are expecting an action packed movie or a mind blowing Sci-fi you might get disappointed. The story focuses on the family and the feelings is what makes this movie special. With Ryan Reynolds as main character you can also expect some typical Reynolds humour together with "young Adam" played by Walker Scobell (who makes an amazing perfomance). The different "generations" of Adam played by Reynolds and Scobell brings up a lot of emotions, with topics that many of us can relate to. Everything from the death of their dad to deal with the stories you have told yourself in order to explain things. You can expect both laughter and tears from this movie. I highly suggest to watch this together with the people you hold close.

As with many of these made for streaming movies the concept has been done better (Back to the Future being the obvious example), but with Ryan Reynolds doing his usual thing and some pretty good action scenes, The Adam Project is a decent enough piece of sci-fi.

The Adam Project is an enjoyable movie. An appetizer. The person who makes the movie watchable without interruption is our child, the leading role. He put on great acting. When three special names were added next to it, a film that didn't get boring came out.

Kind of shocked this is getting ok reviews. One of the most bland, uninspiring, flavorless and pointless movies I have seen recently. A good cast actually, and sure RR's quips are always amusing and worth a **** the plot and story was Saturday morning cartoon level. Cannot believe how anyone thought this was worth making a movie about.

Boring.. Pretty done with Ryan Reynolds acting by now. Guy has no range at all and plays the same dude as in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Story was.. zzzz. lame.. predictable.. zzzzzz Almost fell asleep and was scrubbing the last 30 min.
