It rises to the occasion with strong performances and with its directors’ willingness to slow down and take their story seriously, balancing humor, action, and exposition in a carefully calibrated package.

A satisfying standalone launch for Marvel’s latest superhero combines sci-fi action with ’90s nostalgia. Overcoming minor stumbles, it ultimately soars.

I really loved Captain Marvel. From the very beginning, it’s clear that Carol Danvers isn’t just powerful — she’s charismatic, determined, and has a personal journey that pulls you in. But honestly, the one who steals the show is Goose. What a fantastic creature. Every scene with him adds humor, surprise, and a touch of magic.Brie Larson is excellent. She gives the character a great balance of strength and vulnerability, perfectly matching the tone of the film. She doesn’t try to imitate any other MCU hero — she creates her own path with confidence. Some say the movie plays it safe, but it actually does what many fail to do: carve out its own identity within the Marvel **** '90s setting is a smart choice. Not just for the nostalgia and music, but because it gives the story a grounded, fresh feel. Her dynamic with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is another highlight and brings a lot of charm to the story.Visually, it delivers. The action is well paced, the effects are solid, and the direction stays focused. It may not reinvent the genre, but it doesn’t need to. It’s fun, clear in its message, and never feels forced.

Captain Marvel feels as substantial as any of the other standalone Marvel Cinematic Universe films, even if it does things at a more relaxed pitch. The movie’s pioneer status is gestured toward some in the film, but mostly Boden and Fleck are focused on competently telling a tale that fits into the larger machine. It does, just fine.

So why does Captain Marvel feel like a bit of a disappointment? It’s fine and often quite funny. It fits securely within the MCU but also functions sufficiently as a stand-alone entity. But the character, and the tremendous actress playing her in Oscar-winner Brie Larson, deserved more than fine.

The best reason to see the movie is Larson, who showed how terrific she could be in "Short Term 12" and "Room" as women whose ways of fighting back were frustratingly earthbound.

Captain Marvel seems to hold itself to no higher standard than the absolute minimum that people tend to expect from an entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What’s said to be Marvel’s most powerful superhero ever is served Melatonin by Larson. There is precious little texture or detail, ups and downs, or emotions of any kind in her performance. The character, even when kicking ass, is a total bore. Such as it is, the film’s best moments are provided by Jackson and a hilarious cat.

This movie has nice graphics and visuals, but with a lack of action and a lot of comedy, this movie feels nothing but lighthearted and lacks high stakes the movie ultimately leaves viewers wanting more, but not having received what they wanted or expected from this film.

Classic plot that does not present any novelty compared to the classic Marvel films. Story that however presents some elements of novelty and with a dose of irony not exaggerated that makes the film more enjoyable

It’s not a good sign when a film from 2019 with a budget of $160 million immediately reminds me of STAR WARS: EPISODE I AT the start of its two-hour runtime – with a solid dose of cut scenes from MASS EFFECT 3. Seven and a half minutes in, I found myself wondering for the first time during this cinematic wreck how much longer Disney can stretch the Marvel formula before it snaps. As soon as Captain Marvel crashes onto Earth (or whatever happens in this product), it feels like a female remake of Thor. The fight on the train was conceptually okay, but the finale was again (especially with the sound design, which is unbearably obnoxious) a 1:1 copy of STAR WARS. In short: Your product has a massive problem when a Stan Lee-Marvel logo () and a space tentacle cat () are the only emotional “highlights.” This Disney product is almost unparalleled in its audacity. Yes, CAPTAIN MARVEL can pass as entertainment, although I’ve rarely been this bored. But after more than 20 Marvel films, still failing to present a spark of an original idea in the script or production design truly makes me angry. Additionally, the direction was weak, and Brie Larson’s acting was a complete disaster. Captain Marvel is not a hero, not even an anti-hero, just an unlikable nothing. But don’t listen to me, because according to Ms. Larson, I have no idea about films anyway, since I’m a white cis man. Simply outrageous.

its a meh movie that leans towards being bad and if it was a stand alone movie and not part of the MCU it would be about a 5 but it actively ruins scenes from previous movies in the MCU and is carried entirely by the side cast due to how bland and unlikeable the Main Character (Captain Marvel) is but while this may come as a surprise to some Brie Larson was the perfect cast for this version of Captain Marvel because this version of Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is an incredibly unlikeable character in the Comics and she perfectly portrays how unlikeable the character is that said I don't think that was intentional on Brie Larsons, the Writers and the Directors part its just how it came out for multiple reasons
