Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus10
Oct 28, 2017
Wolfenstein 2 is the greatest game i've ever played, without a doubt. This game blew me away in every single aspect, from the fast, frantic, satisfying **** slaughter, to the poignant, hilarious, grounded story. Well, maybe grounded isn't the best word. But really, what makes me love Wolf 2 so much is just how human it all is. This game made me feel so many things, it's a wonder just how much it manages to balance all of it. Wolf 2 made me happy, it made me sad. It made me angry, it made me scared. It made me feel powerful, and vulnerable at the same time. It made me laugh, cry, and curse at my television. Jaw Drop Counter: 6 times. Crying Counter: 3 times. I honestly recommend Wolfenstein 2 to anyone who likes videogames. Whether you're in it for the story, or for the gameplay, you won't be dissapointed. Go buy this game.

Tom Clancy's The Division2
Apr 6, 2017
I bought the Division on a whim, with some extra cash I had lying around, seeing the hype that it was generating near its launch. I regret every penny of that purchase. I know I am not this cruel with my reviews, and usually always seem to find good in a game, but I find absolutely no appeal in the Division. And for the fan of MMOs that I am, that is quite the feat. Listen, i'm sure the Division is fun if you have some friends. Although I have a few, none of them bought the game, or at least didn't play it. I went solo for the entirety of the experience, and did not enjoy any of it. The game just kinda starts with a paper-thin backstory, and then continues to take through a series of repetitive trials veiled by a plot so thin it appears invisible from the side. And i have to say, for an MMORPG, this game failed in the character creation aspect. There is no reason to make more than one character, unless you like endless cover shooting and bullet sponge enemies. The guns all feel samey, and the gear customization does not extend farther than the overall look of "dude in a hoodie." The game does look beautiful, i can give it that, but that may be the only positive I can cite. I found most of the slog pointless, and at the end, it all just felt like a pointless timekiller. The game wasn't engaging, it didn't engross me in it's world, it didn't give me a memorable experience, there just was nothing to make me like it. That may be the problem actually. It's not that there's bad things; there's just no good things. 2/10

The Last Guardian5
Apr 6, 2017
Shadow Of The Colossus is my favorite game of all time, and Ico is amazing in it's own right too. However, I am pained to say The Last Guardian, perhaps my most anticipated game of all time, has fallen extremely short of my expectations. I'm going to come out and say it right now, This game looks beautiful. I cannot find a single fault in the graphics, as such with the soundtrack. Although no tracks exactly stuck with me like in SOTC, i still enjoyed it all. Trico is adorable, and I found myself engrossed in his small mannerisms and personality than I probably should have. As much as I love all the care and effort put into the world, and the aesthetics of the game,....I have to say it.... this game is just boring for the most part. Let me just say, if you're not a fan of Ico or SOTC, The Last Guardian may not have anything for you. This game sold solely based on its likeness to those 2 games. The beginning of the game is great, the ending is fantastic, but I found myself loathing almost everything inbetween. Really, not much happens. The gameplay mostly consists of you, as a little boy, guiding Trico to the next area, where you can do it again to get to the next area. I just didn't find it fun. While I did enjoy the 2 characters and the bond they formed, I for the most part couldn't bring myself to play the game for more than an hour before shutting it off. I see a lot of complaints about the controls, I don't see that at all. The controls are fine, it's just the overall gameplay design that falls flat. The combat is mostly just watching Trico smack enemies across the room, then petting him when its over. A lot of the time, the puzzle solutions are really easy, it's just the tedious act of getting there that kills it for me. Also, Trico's AI is sometimes amazing, sometimes poor. I found myself having to give a command 20+ times before he heeded. Part of me feels this is a gameplay design, to have it behave just like a wild animal, and if so, I applaud. But if not, then it needs to be fixed. Like I said, I am really hurt to give this game such a low score, but this is legitimately how I felt when playing it. I just didn't enjoy it. I really would have liked to, but I just couldn't. This was my most hyped game of all time, it was supposed to be my GOTY, not my most dissapointing game of the year. 5/10

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition6
Apr 6, 2017
I really hate to give Skyrim, one of my favorite PS3 games, a score so low. But in terms of a remaster, as a "Special Edition," this fails on quite a few levels. The graphics do not look all that better to be truthful, and in some areas of the game, I actually consider to be inferior than the 7th gen version. The E3 trailer made it appear like they had redone the game from the ground up, but that is far from the case. The lighting mostly looks better, but sometimes, doesn't. And for a special edition, this game adds very little. It came with all the DLC, which i liked, having not bought any for the PS3 version. But shortly after reading the back cover you realize.... that's it. You payed $60 for a game you already own. Yeah sure, playing it with a dualshock 4 is nice, and there are a lot of bug fixes obviously, but there is absolutely no value here for those who already own the game. For new players, I recommend this game fully. Please, go buy it now. But for returning players like myself, just save your cash for ES6, you know, if it ever comes out.

Drawn to Death9
Apr 6, 2017
Although this game has been out for just 3 days now, I have had a TON of fun with it, and have been playing it relentlessly. I'm surprised I can pry myself away from the game to write this review. The gameplay is reminiscent of old-style arena shooters, such as Quake, only if it were designed by an angsty teenager who would play such a game. There are several characters to choose from, who all have their own special attacks, among other pros and cons. My 2 favorites are Bronco, an 80's style action hero, and Alan, a sadistic restaurant mascot. The matches consist of either all-out-deathmatch, team deathmatch, or kill and collect, all of which consist of 4 players. The matches are hectic, chaotic, and are almost never slow. All the guns feel right in their own way, and the character combinations are interesting to see. The grenades however, seem tacked on, and I could never quite find a good use for them. Although the art design bugged me at first, I soon grew to appreciate it. Although it doesn't look it, a lot of care has been put into the aesthetics of the game. The characters, their skins, and the guns look great. The stages also look nice, but in my opinion they were TOO white. Some color would have been nice. Moving on, the major issue I have with the game is the progression. It takes quite an insulting amount of time to unlock the mystery boxes. But on the plus side, you can unlock weapons through keys, which take some time to acquire, but none too long. Each character has in game challenges they can complete, not very hard for the most part, but sometimes they aren't clear on what they need you to do. There are a few small issues i have with the game, and most consist of small graphical glitches throughout the menus, such as not allowing me to select a stage, or not telling me I have entered matchmaking. The menus on the main title are a little confusing at first, but I soon found out where everything is. Some characters may need nerfing, such as Diabla and Cyborgula, but they aren't too bad to kill the game for me. Also, for those playing in a party, like i have mostly so far, the game may pair you and your friend up with one person alone. This gives the single person a buff, including a damage buff and health buff. This completely kills the pace of the game, and is just not fun. I soon began to back out **** when I saw just one person. All of my issues though, hold almost no water compared to the immense amount of fun i was having. I see myself putting much, much more time into Drawn to Death in the future. 9/10

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection8
Nov 12, 2015
(Note, at this time, I have not finished Uncharted 3, but, having played it on PS3, i still know what i'm talking about.) Uncharted is one of my FAVORITE first party franchises on the playstation. They offer crazy, over the top action, amazing setpiece battles, and intriguing, fun stories with characters that make it feel all the more alive. I'm glad to say nothing has changed here, all the games are still wild rides from start to finish. (I will be addressing all the games in general, they are all fairly similar. The uncharted trilogy follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake, his best friend/ father figure Victor Sullivan, and his girlfriend Elena, as they chase down different treasures from the clutches of a variety of different villains who somehow have endless armies of identical goons. There's definitely an Indiana Jones like aspect here, and i believe these games will appeal to fans of that series. throughout the game, you shoot enemies, mow down vehicles, jump, climb, and solve puzzles. The combat is what takes up 99% of the games' play time, broken up by puzzles, vehicle sections, being rewarded with cutscenes furthering the plot. And the games are maybe a bit short on plot. The first one focuses on Drake and Co. hunting the gold of El Dorado. The second one focuses on Drake and Co. hunting for the city of Shambala. The third one is about Drake and Co. hunting some ring or something. Yeah,, the overall plots are similar, but the locales, setpieces, and characters are all vastly different in every game. The first one takes place in mostly jungles and ruins. The second one takes place in mostly temples and modern cities. The third one actually has quite the variety with it's locales. I do like this quite a bit. The gameplay is tried and true third person shooting. You get a two weapon limit in your inventory. You pick up ammo, grenades, and swap out other weapons by looting bodies and finding them leaning against walls. This is almost always fun. But I have to say, all the games sorta drag and up the difficulty EXTREMELY in the 3rd quarter of the game, rejuvenating in the final few battles. This problem is especially apparent in 2, which i THINK is the longest one. There are also puzzles. The puzzles are very challenging and make you think. These parts are quite a departure from the shooting, and it's much appreciated. It offers a nice change of pace for a few minutes. I really do like the puzzles. Then there's the turret and vehicle sections. Turret sections usually involve you on a truck, shooting other vehicles with a turret or missiles. These parts up the ante and you still feel excitement. Remaster-wise, Uncharted 2/3 look great. The plane crash part in 3 is especially outstanding. Uncharted 1 however, doesn't really hold up that well. The Uncharted collection is a great way for people who have not experienced these great games to get all 3 at a great low price, just in time for Uncharted 4 next year. I do recommend it, and it earns my seal of approval.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain9
Oct 3, 2015
Anyone who knows me in real life knows how much i obsess over metal gear. I always reference it to no end. Metal gear solid 4, 3, and 1 are some of my favorite games of all time, 4 actually being my #1. But then, i thought 4 was the end of the saga. But then Peace Walker happened, then Rising, and one thing led to another and now we have Metal gear solid 5: the phantom pain. The story opens with one of the greatest openings to a video game of all time, in my opinion. 9 years after the attack on mother base in 1975, Snake wakes up in a hospital, missing an arm, and has a large piece of shrapnel stuck in his head. Cipher (zero's organization) has just now tracked him down and invades the hospital, intending to kill Snake. With the help of a mysterious figure, Ishmael, Snake escapes from the hospital, after encounters with XOF soldiers, a floating child, a man on fire, and a flaming whale. (?) This entire sequence is so fun, and i will never forget my first time playing through it. Once we get out of the hospital, we rendezvous with Ocelot (Yes, THE ocelot), and save Miller from Russian soldiers in Afghanistan. After rescuing Miller, we learn he and Ocelot have created a replacement organization for MSF, Diamond Dogs. Now, i'm going to be frank, I didn't like the story of Phantom Pain. It all goes downhill after the first few missions. There is so many filler missions that have little to do with the plot, except a cutscene afterwards tying what you just did to Skullface's plans, just to make you feel what you just played was important to the plot. It lacks the true substance that made Metal gear what it is. Also, a lack of boss fights. I was really disappointed by this. But there are a handful of memorable missions, and the ending of the game was superbly handled, and surprised me more than Metal gear solid 2. The gameplay is the highlight of Phantom Pain, and is 90% of the reason i'm giving this game the score i am. You can approach a mission any way you choose, picking your guns, equipment, items, what buddy you take along, what vehicle you bring, what character you play as, what you are wearing, the options are endless. This makes the game endlessly replayable. There are some things that make this game feel more AAA, such as the regenerative health and open world. But the open world i don't mind, because this allows you to scout out and, literally, approach the objective as you please. The game also borrows a lot from Peace Walker. Like PW, one of the main features is building and managing your Diamond Dogs force, extracting soldiers, vehicles, animals and gun emplacements from the field. But unlike Peace Walker, you can actually visit and walk around Mother Base, checking in with your soldiers, and even the animals at your personal zoo. You can also develop new weapons and gadgets, upgrading them, along with making equipment for your buddies and helicopter. This, i really enjoyed, although I didn't really see a point in visiting mother base, aside in raising soldier moral and keeping fights from breaking out. Also, the FOB system is trash, i don't even go near that. (on a final note, at the time of the review, MGO has not launched yet, so i will not be talking about that.) Overall, Phantom Pain felt like a bigger version of peace walker, featuring better gameplay, but sacrificing some of the story. 9/10

Mad Max8
Sep 19, 2015
I had a LOT of fun with Mad max. I played it relentlessly until i saw the credits roll. While it does have some pretty noticeable flaws, it was still a solid experience. Avalanche studios perfectly emulates the world of Mad max. It's characters, presentation, and cars are spot on. The story follows Max (obviously), and his quest to reach the plains of silence, a locale which he hopes he can escape his past. But after a fairly mediocre and rushed opening, Max makes a mortal enemy: Scabrous Scrotus, the ruler of gastown. After getting his car stolen by said ruler, Max makes a friend: chumbucket, a wasteland mechanic. Together, they must build their ultimate ride and escape to these plains of silence. The story is actually pretty good. It was interesting and engaging enough to want me to see it through to the end. Along the way, you meet many interesting characters, half of which are group leaders, whose strongholds you can use as a base of operations. But one thing i didn't like about the story was this one character named Hope, a slave bounced back and forth between masters throughout the game. She and her daughter, glory, are just not interesting characters, and what makes it worse is the shoehorned in love story between her and Max. It just doesn't work. The gameplay is split up between driving/car combat, and ground combat/scavenging. The car combat is so much fun, slamming into cars, shooting at them with explosives and shotguns, lighting them up with side-mounted flame throwers, and literally pulling off their armor and wheels with the harpoon. I always had fun when engaged in car combat. The overall driving mechanic is really solid too. Ground combat and exploration is fun as well. the combat is reminiscent of the batman arkham games, except with many major tweaks (not to mention more violent!) The wasteland may be the best open world I've experienced in a video game. Which is ironic, an open world that is meant to be empty feels so alive and full of personality. In this world, you'll tackle side objectives, which consist of toppling intimidation towers, taking out Scrotus convoys, partaking in vicious death runs, and taking up many jobs from the stronghold leaders. While some of these tasks get repetitive, others, like the convoys and camps, are really fun. Now i'm going to get into some of my major gripes with the game. Boss fights being one. There are mainly two types of boss fights, big guys that swing huge sharp things, and small fast guys that flail around dual shivs. These get repetitive. There are also several graphical quirks, such as glitching models and framerate slowdowns. And the thing that made me the most angry, was a bug that prevented me from continuing the game, forcing me to restart the entire thing. Thankfully this was early on. Overall, i really did like Mad Max, 8/10.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare6
Aug 1, 2015
Despite giving this the same score as Call of Duty ghosts, i actually enjoyed this one much better. But that's not saying much. First off, we have an actual talking protagonist in advanced warfare. While silent protagonists may work in Half life and such games, it definitely does not in ghosts. The plot is much better than Ghosts too. The graphics are amazing, and the cut scenes look almost real life. While there are some cliches in the plot, the great gameplay makes up for it. Not to mention this multiplayer i could actually play, with all it's new mechanics. 6/10

Call of Duty: Ghosts6
Aug 1, 2015
I don't really play Call of Duty games. In fact, this was the first one i actually played. So if you COD fans out there don't think I really properly reviewed this game, i'm sorry, i could not really judge this one correctly. The story is REALLY bland. If you want me to relay it to you, i'm sorry i really can't. All i remember is a few key scenes, and the characters. I cannot even remember what tied the missions together even. The plot was just uninteresting. And the villain was pretty stock too, with that: "feud with a main character after past event" backstory. I just didn't care what he had in store for our heroes. The game play is the most standard first person shooting you can get. It is fun and stress relieving though, to gun down an enemy and see their blood splatter on the wall behind them. You got your grenades, your flashbangs, and one off gadgets that strangely only appear for one mission then never get to be used again. I can see now why everyone hates the Call of Duty community now. From the squeakers who have a hissy fit calling me a hacker everytime i shoot them while their back is turned, to the ones who stay locked in a prime location to pick off any players who meet their gaze, and only a few matches i played where i actually could have fun. Now, it may not be because i'm not good at multiplayer games, but i genuinely couldn't tell if i was having fun playing online. For this being my first Call of Duty game, i can say that the bar is set pretty low, and i don't know if i can play another in the future. 6/10 (edit: i actually have now played all the titles that were on 7th generation systems and advanced warfare.)

Resogun10
Jul 31, 2015
There is nothing wrong with resogun. Nothing. It is perfect in every aspect. The gameplay is standard, side scrolling shooting aspect. It's addicting and will make you want to go back to play levels many of times. The music is also outstanding, and goes along perfectly with shooting at other ships. The graphics are another highlight. The neon colors that all the ships emit make it amazing, sometimes tough-on-your-eyes visuals. And when things get going with maybe hundreds of enemies on screen at a time, ooo boy. None of the deaths felt cheap too. They were all an effect of pure challenge. Also, i have lots of fun with the recently added ship editor, in both making ships and picking them out of the thousands that are made by other players. 10/10

Knack5
Jul 31, 2015
knack was the PS4 launch title i was looking forward to the most. Being a fan of such PS2 platformers, like Ratchet and clank, and sly cooper, i had high hopes for this game. It was also developed by Mark Cerney, which is definitely a plus. But in the end, what we had was a highly repetitive platforming/action game, with little to no platforming. The gameplay includes pretty much three buttons. Jump, attack, and dodge. That's really it. Expect no other controls. The levels are extremely linear and offer no real interesting sights. Also, like i said earlier, there is also pretty much no platforming, save for a few levels early on in the game. Now, these linear levels involve you going from location to location, beating on goblins and robots. Knack's main gimmick is Knack's ability to grow bigger and stronger by absorbing "relics". It's actually a very cool and interesting idea, except it's executed horribly. The level determines how big you will be, then the game lets you expand from there, until you grow too big and it stops you. I suppose this is due to balancing issues though, as in some levels the enemies are much smaller or larger than regular. One thing i like though, is when knack absorbs a unique material, such as burning logs, ice, or glass. The characters are what you would expect. Shallow and boring. The story is what you would expect. Thin and has no originality. For this type of game though, that's OK. It kept me invested enough to finish the thing. The graphics are great, not as great as some other launch titles, but once again, it's great. The way some of knack's relics reflect light looks really good. Now, i was going to give this game a 3, but i decided to up it 2 points, because it was designed for kids, and they would enjoy it. Knack is just innocent fun. 5/10

Contrast (2013)6
Jul 27, 2015
Contrast (which i got for free) was the first game i had played on my PS4. It honestly did not make me feel like i was playing a next generation game. The concept is actually very interesting. You play as a girl's imaginary friend who can morph in and out of shadows. You use this power to solve puzzles, some of which were pretty difficult, especially towards the end of the game. The graphics do not look good. Yes, i just go ahead and drop it like that. I did not think it looked appealing, especially considering this is a PS4 game. It just didn't click with me. The gameplay is fun though. I enjoyed solving puzzles in the "shadow world". There are box puzzles though. That is where the game drags, having to pick up boxes, move boxes, move them again. Also there is a fair share of bugs and glitches, some forcing me to restart the game. On a final note, i love the 1920's atmosphere of the setting. Contrast is not a game i can really recommend, or i would go back and play again myself. 6/10

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes7
Jul 27, 2015
I am a humongous stealth game fan, science fiction fan, and most importantly Metal Gear fan. After the masterpiece MGS4 (which is my favorite game of all time) I thought that there would be no new MGS games (mainstream anyway.) So when i heard of a new game, including the prelude game, ground zeroes, i did a double back flip. Now, one thing that i must get out of the way, that every reviewer is going to bring up, the length. Yes the game is short. Yes, i beat the main mission in a matter of an hour. That doesn't mean i didn't enjoy it. I actually very much enjoyed it. It offers much more refined gameplay than any metal gear solid game that i have ever played, which i hope MGS5: the phantom pain can improve upon even more. The game is also highly replayable in my opinion. No, not for the collectibles, but for the immense amount of choice there is. You can choose what route you wish to take to infiltrate the base. You can sneak in, you can go in guns blazing, you can snipe from a vantage point, you can recon, there is just so much variability here. There are also some side missions, called "side ops" here. They offer some great variation and extra content. On the downside, they use the same tired map from the main mission. It would have been nice to see some other locations. Another thing i must bring up is the price. The full retail price is 40 dollars, but i bought it a few days after launch for 30 dollars, paired with a PS plus discount. Ground zeroes is a taste of what is to come in phantom pain. I just wish they would have had this as the prologue of phantom pain instead of selling it as almost full retail. Would i recommend it? mmm, only if you can get it a discounted price, or if it's free on PS plus. 7/10

Far Cry 47
Jul 27, 2015
I don't usually play first person shooters, let alone finish them. Far Cry 4 holds the title of one of the only ones that i can say i played all the way through and enjoyed. While it does not hold up to Far Cry 3 (another FPS that i finished.) The game starts off with the same cutscene that we saw in the reveal trailer. Here, i could tell that the graphics weren't exactly going to be this game's strong point. You could easily tell this was cross-gen. So the actual game starts, and it feels just like a far cry game. The way you can see the character's feet on the pedals as they drive, the way you can turn your head around to look behind you while driving. It just feels so immersive. The story is not too complicated. Something about a civil war between the dictator Pagan Min (voiced by troy Baker!) and the people of Kyrat. You play as Ajay Ghale who is the new martyr for the people, or something like that. The missions offer a nice variety, and are enough to keep you sticking around if you don't care for the story. My favorites include the arena mission, and some of the missions up in the Himalayas. There is a huge variety of guns to choose from, in which i enjoy a good, silenced, long range sniper rifle. Outside the story is is a whole lot to do. Maybe a little too much. I enjoy taking out the enemy outposts. (Once again, long range, silenced sniper rifle.) There are also hunting challenges, crafting challenges, convoys, drug trips, arena survival games, and a whole lot more. After he story i only had about 19 percent of the game done, including a few side things. A gripe of mine with the game is the characters. None of them are really interesting, including Ajay. Also, a good majority are really badly acted. Troy Baker is excellent as Min though. Oh, and concerning Pagan Min, he's not Vaas. I could really tell that they were trying to make a villain better and scarier, but in the end turned out like a copy. He was still entertaining though, although has a thin presence throughout the story. Far Cry 4 is most likely the best First Person shooter on the next gen systems. I would highly recommend it, granted it's flaws. 7/10

Watch Dogs5
Jul 27, 2015
Watch dogs is the embodiment of why i hate ubisoft. I have to be honest, i was not very hyped for this game when it was first announced. I didn't buy it on launch day. I bought it a year and a half later just to see for myself what it was like. So i boot up the game. After getting like, three reminders to sign into Uplay (which i refuse to get), i get the game started. The intro is solid and gives us a nice introduction to our main character. So then we get to the actual open world "meat", the reason everyone was so excited for the game. The hacking. I had so much fun in the game for my first few hours, looking into people's phones, stealing their money, interrupting traffic. Then after 3 days of playing the game, total of about 15 hours, i decide to actually play the game. I hate pretty much every aspect of the game except the hacking. But even the hacking got mundane. The story was practically nonexistent. The characters weren't interesting, and Aiden was not fun to play as at all. The missions offered a nice variety, but it was still not enough to make me care to finish it. The side missions were very repetitive, no matter what the topic, and i couldn't finish each string of missions either. The gameplay was very monotonous overall. I did have some fun with the minigames around town, such as the chess challenges and drinking challenges. Ok, i have to quickly get through all these other nitpicks and such pretty quickly. The music on the radio was not good at all. the driving just didn't feel right somehow. The overworld felt more lifeless and boring than, say, GTA. The upgrades and rewards for beating side missions were pretty useless. The graphics look pretty nice through, and this game does feel like it's next gen. I do not like watchdogs. it's honestly not ALL that bad, but it's just so OK i can't even comment on it. 5/10

Mortal Kombat X8
Jul 20, 2015
Mortal Kombat X was easily my most anticipated game of 2015. While it was not the best fighting game i have ever played, it was still a darn good one. Mortal Kombat X has some very solid and tight controls. It was so easy to just jump in and get into the fighting action. The moves seem a lot easier to pull off this time around. The biggest new feature is the variations system. Each character has 3 different variants, each adding different special moves and combos to their move set. For example Raiden had a variation where he can teleport, one where he has enhanced lighting powers, and one where he can set lighting traps. My only gripe with this new system, is that some characters have variations that only add one or two new moves to the equation. It's still very good though. Of course, another good thing to look forward to is the fatalities. They are more gruesome than ever here, and may possibly be some of the best of the whole series. Some of them are pretty hard to pull off though. (I'm not going to get into all the micro transactions and abundance of DLC.) The krypt is where you can buy all the different fatalities and costumes. Instead of just a boring open field with tombstones, this is a first person puzzle segment. This can break up some monotony, and the krypt is rich with content. This has the most content of any fighting game, i can easily say. I don't feel like getting into too much detail over the story, but i just want to say it was not as good as Injustice or MK9. Mortal Kombat X was a very good fighting game, and i would go back to play ti anyday. 8/10

LittleBigPlanet 38
Jul 20, 2015
LittleBigPlanet was my favorite Playstation 3 exclusive, period. It's sequel, while not as good as the first by my standards, upped the ante by introducing new features and a new creator engine. LittleBigPlanet 3 ups it even more, by giving us even more features, and some more playable characters, while it does have some flaws. The game still has the same charm that made it's two predecessors so noteworthy. Everything is made out of different materials, and our sackboy is still s cute as ever. The story is just your simple story about a hero saving the universe. While it is short, that doesn't bother me. All the levels are so varied, with each taking on a different noteworthy task. One thing that i wasn't too fond of was that all the characters (except playable ones) are fully voiced. For me this took away the charm of the incomprehensible gibberish that all the background characters spoke. I do like the overall voice performances though, especially Hugh Laurie as our lovable semi-villain Newton. The big new feature that LBP 3 introduces is the new playable characters. We have Oddsock, a dog-like sack creature that is super agile. Toggle, a beefy sack person that can change between big and small. Finally, my favorite new character swoop, a bird sack creature that can fly and, well, swoop. All these characters are so fun to play as, which is why i'm so sad that they aren't in the game that much. But, with the new gadgets available, sackboy is still a blast to play as. As always, you can customize these characters with cute little costumes, which, even if you didn't buy DLC, there are still a lot of costumes. Also, if you link up your LBP account with this, you can get all your costumes, stickers, decorations and goddies from the first two games carried over to this one. As always, the community levels are amazing. I love seeing all the people across the world putting their spin on the littleBigPlanet level creator. Some of these community levels are even better than the actual levels in the story. The level creator is very in-depth, and maybe a little too in-depth. I found myself struggling to create something outside of a simple platformer, i felt so buried underneath all the features. LittleBigPlanet 3 is a great game all around, and is one of the best exclusives currently on the PS4. 8/10

Grim Fandango Remastered10
Jul 20, 2015
Grim Fandango was a game i originally had no interest in in 1998. I just didn't think it seemed appealing, probably due to the point-and-click genre dying down at that point. Now here we are, 2015, point and click now being a favored genre of mine, especially taking a liking in old ones. I can say now that i regret not getting Grim Fandango back in the day, for it is now in my top ten favorite games of all time. There is not anything bad i can really say about Grim Fandango. The story in entrancing, keeping you locked in it's world of fantastic writing and original, developed characters. Even background characters that you only share 2 or 3 lines with are interesting. The story takes you to a variety of different locations, from the ocean-side town of Rubacava, to the very gates of the 9th underworld itself. All the characters are well voice acted, and the dialogue is consistently funny. The gameplay is your standard point and click stuff: walk around, talk to people, pick up stuff, solve puzzles, it's all great fun. While some might complain about the immense difficulty that some of the puzzles boast, with the answers being extremely cryptic, but i don't mind at all. A hefty challenge is what i like to see in a PAC game, which most new ones seem to lack. Now, i could complain about the counter-intuitive "tank controls", but even they got that right. The default control is scheme is NOT tank controls, you must change this from the options screen. I cannot tell you how great that is. I actually played the game through a second time with tank controls, not for the trophy, but so i can play the game the way it was meant to be played. Remaster wise, I cannot speak too much for not playing the original. Some things i can talk about though is the enhanced textures, which can be changed to original by the push of a button. Pairing that with tank controls make it a full retro experience. I hear some things from others about the music being redone, and the aspect ratio changed, but for me non of that matters, for this is the only Grim Fandango experience i have played. Overall, this game is simply a masterpiece on all fronts. There is just not a bad thing i can say about it. This is why i'm giving Grim fandango a 10/10

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes8
Jul 17, 2015
Lego Marvel Super Heroes may have been my most anticipated Lego game, and for the most part, that hype payed off. The plot follows the avengers, x-men, fantastic four, spider man, and many other super heroes teaming up to stop Doctor Doom, Magneto, and Loki from taking over the world and destroying all our favorite heroes once and for all. It's an extremely simple concept that goes a long way. Every level follows a few heroes going after one or two of the many supervillains. This offers much variety, in terms of both characters, and gameplay. One minute you'll be underwater in a submarine fighting AIM agents, another, you'll be scaling the statue of liberty in search of some mutants. The gameplay is just like any other lego game. punch enemies, break stuff, solve puzzles, the usual suspects. But somehow, the gameplay feels even more at home here than ever. There are a LOT of characters as well. Unless you're a huge comic geek like me, you'll be breaking out your laptops to research those people. It's fun seeing in all my favorite characters in adorable lego form. My main gripe with the game is actually the characters as well. A majority of them are all too similar. Only a few have exclusive powers, and those powers are usually crazy or weird. Lego marvel super heroes may not be the best lego game, but it is a very good one at that. 8/10

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham9
Jul 17, 2015
People who know me in real life, know i'm a HUGE comic book fan, particularly DC comics. Lego batman 3: beyond Gotham is the DC comics game i have been waiting for. The story is packed with DC comics lore and characters. The Justice League, and the Legion of Doom team up to stop Braniac from shrinking the Earth. In my opinion, this is the best plot of any Lego game so far. You will travel across the galaxy, from Earth, to the watchtower, to all the lantern planets. You also get a nice, small variety of characters to play as throughout the 15 levels. You get all the main players of the Justice League, like Superman, Batman, Wonder woman, Martian Manhunter, and a few others. You also get to play as the Legion of doom, with team players such as Lex Luthor, The Joker, Cheetah, and Solomon Grundy. In conclusion, i was VERY happy with the campaign. The gameplay is the same as always with a lego game. Punch hordes of goons, break stuff, build stuff, solve puzzles, it's as great as ever in Beyond Gotham. Some new features include the ability to switch suits on the fly, some new flight controls (Which were in Marvel Super Heroes actually.), and some other stuff. A lot of the character powers are really diverse as well, only a few characters, like a lot of the big figures, felt like carbon copies of each other. Oh, and the character selection was huge. I was definitely surprised to see characters like detective chimp, platinum, and swamp thing. Oh, and my favorite DC comics character of all time, Deathstroke, was in the roster, which i was so happy to see. My one gripe with this game is the open world. Instead of one, big, interesting open world, we have several, small, generic planets. But, the hall of doom is available for exploration. While it is very confined, i do love that location (I LOVE the DC villains.) But, other than that, i very much adore this game's experience. This is one of the best Lego games I ever played, and is a must play for any DC comics fan. 9/10

The LEGO Movie Videogame4
Jul 17, 2015
i love Lego videogames, and I loved the Lego movie, so when I heard that the Lego movie was going to get a videogame, I thought that it would be like bread and butter. The result though, was a half-assed game that is practically begging for the player to complete it. The game follows the same plot as the movie: emmet, a normal man in the city, is chosen to fulfill a prophecy and save the world from lord business, teaming up with characters like gandalf, batman, superman, Shaquille o'neil, and Milhouse. This concept worked amazingly in the actual film, and for the most part, does here too. The cutscenes are actually clips from the film, but heavily edited, with a majority of the funny parts cut out. The levels are extremely formulaic, and a lot are boring. instead of action, we are solving puzzles that are so easy, even chimpanzees could solve them. If you've ever played a recent Lego game, you know that the open world and levels are filled with many collectibles and characters to find. But nope, not in Lego movie. We have 5 minikits per level. We have 70 gold bricks to find. SEVENTY!!!!! Compare that weak number to the outstanding 250 that Lego marvel super heroes had. And the characters, they aren't even unlocked by finding tokens, or something, instead you just have the option to buy them after the game tells you. By the time the story is finished, you can buy all the characters. Also, the open world is so small I don't even understand why it's there. The graphics leave a lot to be desired. They don't look as good as most other Lego games, and this is next generation! Lego hobbit looks better, and they both came out the same year. In the actual game, the characters aren't voiced by the actual actors, yet people doing impressions. To their credit though, their impressions of people like Chris Pratt, will ferrel, and Morgan freeman aren't that bad. Finally, the characters aren't that interesting. Their powers are so bland, and their aren't that many characters. A lot of them are just wastes of space. (There's like, 15 versions of emmet.) If other Movie based Lego games worked so well, why not this one? 4/10

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor9
Jul 17, 2015
Middle earth: shadow of mordor is a damn good game. I enjoyed every second of playing it (on PS4). The gameplay is a mix between the batman arkham games, and the assassin's creed games. The combat is derived from the arkham side. You can slash, counter, and perform brutal finishing moves in your Orc enemies. Those finishers, for me, never get old. The movement is where the assassin's creed portion comes in. The way talion climbs and free runs feels just like AC. In other words, the gameplay is amazing. The main feature that shadow of mordor introduces is the nemesis system. It contains of an entire hierarchy of orcs, all constantly battling for higher positions of power. Every time you die by the hands of a captain, they get promoted, amongst other orcs across mordor receiving titles. Another feature introduced is the ability to brand orcs. This means that you brainwash them, and insert them back into the regular Orc society. So if you brand a captain, you can help him rise up to power, and manipulate events within the hierarchy of orcs. The story is also great. It follows talion, who was killed by sauron, being ressurected by a wraith, and setting off on his quest for vengeance, along the way, you meet a few familiar faces from the LOTR books and movies, along with many interesting new characters. Most missions involve taking on different tasks, with much variety in gameplay and mission objectives. Although, the final boss battle is EXTREMELY anticlimactic. This may be my favorite game on the PS4 so far. I love it, and would play it again, anyday. 9/10

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited6
Jul 17, 2015
DISCLAIMER: I am definitely not one for online games. If you want talk about the online and cooperative features of the game, look elsewhere. Instead, I will be looking at it as just an average elder scrolls game. The elder scrolls online: tamriel unlimited is not necessarily a bad game. That's not to say it's good either. While I did find myself having fun at most times, I also felt fairly dissapointed. Now, the first thing that I think of when I hear "elder scrolls", and I'm sure most can agree, is a big, sprawling open world, with many creatures and characters. While this is certainly present in tamriel unlimited, i found this one more boring than most elder scrolls games. The characters didn't seem as rich and 3 dimensional as background characters in, say, skyrim or oblivion. Another thing that I didn't really see happening as much, is just walking around and discovering some random location, a thing that made exploring worthwhile. But, the soundtrack is amazing, as with most elder scrolls games, which makes exploring still feel like an amazing trek. The story, while not as great as it honestly could have been, was still engaging enough to make me put many, many hours into the game. I can also say, that some of the characters are really well voice acted. On the other hand, some are really badly acted. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the plot that they weaved. Also, like any elder scrolls game, there are hundreds of side quests to participate in across the map. But, unlike skyrim, these consist of either go fetch something, or go beat up a group of people, sometimes both. I only did these to gain extra experience. The gameplay is the same as it ever was. Pick a weapon, and spam that weapon as you run around like a madman. It's not much different, but it works. I personally enjoy attacking from afar with a bow and arrow, being stealth-like. Those who know me personally know I love stealth, and that's pretty much how I went about the game. For me, it never gets old. Overall, gameplay is the same as ever, very good. While I did not enjoy everything about ESO, I still very much had fun most of the way through. 6/10

Styx: Master of Shadows7
Jul 16, 2015
This game has the stealth/thief gameplay of thief, mixed with the charm and humor of sly cooper. How could that go wrong? not in many places. I very much enjoy the stealth, and your choice to take different routes, some less risky, some shorter. There is also a variety of different stealth mechanics, such as throwing knives, extinguishing torches, etc. It's "Amber powers" are also fairly enjoyable as well, and found myself using the abilities, such as creating a clone or turning invisible for a brief period of time, to get myself out of many situations. The combat is stodgy, as with most stealth games. But that's not really something to complain about, as you want to avoid combat encounters. But the one thing that nearly killed the game for me, is that is the game was frustratingly, controller-smashingly hard. (At least for me anyways.) The areas are very stingy on health, and after getting through a zone or two, you'll be begging for some guards to have a vial in their pockets. The auto saving is the biggest offender of this difficulty. If you get to an auto save with a snickers fun size of health left, you are screwed on all fronts, and might as well restart the zone/mission. Other than this though, I still found the game fairly enjoyable. 7/10
