It could’ve been a great single player title. The publisher chose to go down the game as a service path though, and those who prefer to play solo need to tackle run-of-the-mill co-op missions. The multiplayer on the other hand is messy, chaotic and in the long run boring. When the developers manage to fix the most pressing bugs and find a way to bring more variety to co-op, this might become a solid game. Right now, I can only recommend it to the biggest fans of the Avengers. [11/2020, p.26]
This is the perfect example of "Games as a Service" done right. Marvel's Avengers offers up a superb campaign story to play through that is promised to be expanded on in the future. The gameplay may be repetitive, but it includes just enough to keep players interested and invested in the endgame content that is available now to keep this game going until the next step in its roadmap. The possibilities and potential in the future here are hugely exciting.
There have been plenty of moments during my time with Marvel's Avengers where I’ve genuinely had a great time. But this game keeps finding ways to drag itself down- at times it almost feels like it goes out of its way to do so. There’s just so much here that I can’t overlook, no matter how hard I may try. An unnecessary and broken loot system, a litany of horrible technical issues, uninspired and one-note mission design, and a story that fails just as much as it succeeds- it doesn’t matter how mindlessly fun the combat is, it isn't enough to overcome such a heavy list of problems.

I really loved the game, but too bad it shut down in 2023. I hope we get a new a avegers game with a different studio.

Marvel’s Avengers delivers solid combat and a surprisingly decent story, giving fans a chance to step into the boots of their favourite heroes. Unfortunately, its messy UI, confusing progression systems, and missions often locked or dragged down by paywalls undermine the experience. What could have been a strong live-service superhero adventure ends up feeling disjointed and limited, with flashes of fun buried under frustrating design choices

It’s a great-looking and sounding game, but one that definitely needs some fine-tuning with the loading and quality of life issues that hamper the experience. Still, the good far outweighs the bad, and Marvel’s Avengers ends up being one of the best superhero experiences ever put in a video game.

Marvel’s Avengers impresses with a well-written, dramatic campaign. From a gameplay standpoint, the combat is as fun and satisfying as one could hope for in a title based on the superhero team. Though the online live service aspect is bogged down by overly complicated menus, systems, and matchmaking woes, there’s still a fun experience underneath. Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix deliver a perfectly adequate adaptation of an iconic property with Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel's Avengers has a shallow and linear campaign, saved only by a brilliant start and the exciting finale. Multiplayer mode offers good mission variety, but the success of the game con be already compromised by the repetitiveness and the generic combat system.

Critical Hit
Marvel’s Avengers is both a fantastic story and a dead-average grind for meaningless loot. When everything comes together, it’s a brilliant power fantasy with heart and a true passion for its source material. Those moments are fleeting though, held back by a range of technical issues, shockingly sloppy design, and no solid idea of what kind of game it really wants to be. Some assembly, definitely required.

As a triple-A holiday blockbuster from a renowned studio and a major publisher released after years of build-up, it doesn’t feel like a product that has justified this much anticipation. Furthermore, as yet another live-service title expecting players to sink who knows how many hours into its ecosystem, it completely fails to convince me that anybody will be playing in a year without a great deal of work needed to elevate it out of mediocrity.

Between a disappointing campaign and a whole "service game" aspect with significant content but limited interest, Marvel's Avengers didn't convince us. We'll have to see how the Crystal Dynamics game evolves, as there's clearly potential behind its progression system and its superheroes with very distinct styles. But for now, we suggest you think carefully before jumping into the adventure. In addition to all the structural flaws and lack of variety, the game has a plethora of irritating technical problems, including bugs, crashes and framerate issues. We'll see in 5 or 6 months.

There is nothing heroic in Marvel’s Avengers, a game that gives the feeling of a mobile title that invades our living room under the "AAA" budget hood. The thing that saddens the most is the sacrifice of Deus Ex’s third installment in order for this microtransaction fest to be released.

I don’t think this game deserves to be rated this low: Maybe when it first came out but I played it after all the expansions were already out so I’m probably biased. I didn’t finish the spider-man part but I still had fun playing it. I just played it solo but I bet it would be fun to play with friends. The fighting is pretty fun and I remember the story being pretty good. I bet it would be worth it if you got it during one of those cheap sales.

I thought it would be worse. If you like Marvel's movies and comics and action games you'll probably enjoy it. I appreciate that they didn't normalize the islamic veil but they messed it again when the main character recognized that she was wearing a burkini...

After a whole week of playing this game I can safely say that it's not worth the 100%. Just play the story and the DLC story stuff. Everything else is very shallow and repetitive. The story itself is pretty okay, I guess. The gameplay and mission structure don't really highlight any hero in particular, but you could tell the team loves Iron Man cause he's the character getting to do the coolest stuff!

Oh well, for an "Avengers" game, I expected something better. This game is so dull, it lacks charm and personality, and the fact that it's a live service game really hurts the overall story, it feels so choppy and disjointed, the pacing is all over the place, the missions are extremely repetitive and they end very abruptly, and there is a lot of grinding as if it's a dead multiplayer game... what where they thinking!? Don't get me started on the Avengers, they are so bland, it actually feels like as if you're playing as random people cosplaying as superheroes, with limited movesets and not much variety of combat options, there is honestly so much wasted potential. The only Avenger I enjoyed playing as is the Hulk, and that's because of his long jump and grab attacks, every other Avenger feels boring, you can button mash your way through the entire game and still get rewarded for it. Granted, the way the characters interact with each other is sweet, there are some small decent moments here and there, and the voice actors did a good job at bringing the Avengers to life. There is a fine game hidden beneath all the unnecessary stupid crap, because honestly, at times I was able to enjoy the game, even with all its flaws. It's a pretty short game and a forgettable one at that. I guess, it's not exactly a bad game because even though I didn't really enjoy it much, I actually didn't hate it either, it's just disappointing. Final Rating: "Weak" ~ 4/10.

SummaryMarvel’s Avengers is an epic, third-person, action-adventure game that combines an original, cinematic story with single-player and co-operative gameplay. Assemble into a team of up to four players online, master extraordinary abilities, customize a growing roster of Heroes, and defend the Earth from escalating threats.
