America's Got Talent: Season 18

This is about the only thing on network TV this summer that has any shred of quality to it. STILL, I am getting SOOOOOO tired of the judges throwing all ideas of quality entertainment out the window as soon as someone starts crying/whining about how they are so bullied because they don't fit the mainstream definition of "normal." I just hope most of these undeserving acts get tossed during the judge cuts and we won't have suffer through their mediocrity during the live shows. Still think judge cuts should be a thing of the past, and America should decide who gets through to the live shows - we should also get to vote on who gets the golden buzzer. The judge choices for this distinction are also mostly wrong. Just have viewers push the golden buzzer on their app during the airing of each of the taped shows, then announce the act with the most golden votes at the beginning of the next show. Again, some of the acts are truly great and need to come back, but the so-called celebrity "judges" often have no clue who should stay and who should go. Just downgraded this again because the most recent show had no more quality than a high school level talent show and the judges and audience were both acting like everything was superb. So bad, and no guts to call things bad when deserved.

While I enjoyed watching the crews perform custom builds, the judging was horrendous. The cars getting most of the criticism during construction often ended up winning. Made no sense at all! Also, the countdown at the end of each episode was obviously contrived to build drama. That didn’t happen. Pretty lame, actually. In a summer of next to no good broadcast tv shows, this was mildly interesting, but missed the mark in so many ways. The ultimate winner had the worst design - according to the judges. I feel like the winner was selected by the head HW guy as this was the only toy he thought he could sell. I won’t buy it! The only decent car given to the finalists was the Firebird, The guy who got the VW was handicapped from the start. Hope this show either cleans up its format, or if not, it needs to go away.

The return to a largely episodic story track is greatly appreciated. Of course, the writers cannot help themselves and add serialized "character development" threads to the episodes which do taint the episodic slant. That being said, the push to put the "woke" story lines and "woke" character traits in SNW sour the overall feeling of the show. Yeah, even Roddenberry pushed the supposed utopia of the future in all his Star Treks, but when it is too pervasive and too preachy, it just doesn't play well. There is a fine line between helping a viewer "discover" an epiphany in a well crafted plot line, and just bludgeoning us with the obvious woke agendas. I want to like this show, and there is such a lack of good entertainment on network and in the streaming apps, I will likely watch it, but the flaws continue to irritate.

Sorry to see this one go. It was the uneven quality of the writing that killed it! Sometimes it was brilliant. Other times, it was torture to watch. For me the end began when HODAD from the first season suddenly became a born again respectable doctor again. Tedious season long plot lines with the villain of the year became too much to bear even for this fan. Also didn’t like how female actors seemed destined to run from this production company. Makes one wonder why. Have a feeling this also played into the cancellation decision.

Actually interesting for the occasional view. Since there is little variation in the show week to week, it gets old fast. Would like to see a show like this without the artificial time constraints. Putting contestants into a forced 16 hour work day is cruel by modern standards and would not be tolerated by any labor union. Such a long work period forces the errors the show's producers love to show. How about letting the contestants have one work week of 8 hours days to produce their final result? It would give the teams the time to build something truly spectacular and stop the nerd abuse.

I watch this show only when nothing better is on. Interesting premise, but in practice a flawed format. There is no way for the contestants to figure out who can sing and who cannot. It is a pure guessing game through and through. If there were actual clues to follow other than just guessing it'd be at least a bit fair to the contestants. One can tell from the performances, the "bad" singers are coached to look credible during the lip-sync rounds and the good singers aren't. One can also tell, the bad singers are instructed to sing really bad, rather than just so-so (most people can at least carry a tune some of the time). The celebrity panel guesses are often worse than the contestants, so I don't really see why they are there. They confuse more than they help. Ken J as a host is irritating at best and the worst aspect of the show. So, when Hollywood is tired of Ken J getting yet another show to stroke his ego, I will not miss this farce.

This show is a mere shadow of what it used to be. It used to be genuinely funny along with dramatic. Rumor has it Mark Harmon wants to leave the show but CBS says they’ll cancel it without Gibbs. The story arc has Gibbs out of the picture and I think they are trying to sell us and the network with a replacement. Problem is, it’s not working. Hey CBS, since you are cancelling Bull, how about bringing back Tony Dinoso to lead the team??? (Interesting thought, but I doubt MW would bite.) Frankly the show’s first cast was their best cast and each replacement has inflicted irreparable harm to the franchise. Losing Kate, Tony, Ducky (but for brief cameos) were all bad, but the loss of Abby was catastrophic. As much as I liked the show in the past, I think CBS needs to pull the plug on the entire NCIS franchise. Let us remember them when they were actually good and fun to watch.

So Bull is heading to the slaughter house. Frankly I am amazed it's limited format lasted as long as it did. The writing was decent, considering the constraints of the premise. The acting and directing were mostly good, but a bit whiny at times. The overall lack of range in the premise was its problem for the entire run. How many ways can you get an unjustly accused defendant off? I think they tried most of them. Hope to see most of these actors in other projects soon. They did their best within the limited range the premise of the show allowed.

Don’t need another couple of lesbians trying to find themselves. The single mom thing is nothing new, either. Unless we see some major improvements in the writing and plots, this show won’t be anything to remember after a few years. Probably time for all the NCIS shows to fade away. I like shows about space. I found the premise of this series unsettling. What if the Russians beat us to the moon? I found season one handled the premise better than I expected. The space race didn’t end and a few key details in history changed as a result. Some of the changes were entertaining but others reek of a wishlist of revisionist history. Having Teddy Kennedy avoid **** and run for President was laughable. Having John Lennon survive his shooting was interesting, but not relevant to the show’s plot. Season two extends into the Reagan years and that’s where I start having major problems with the revisionist timeline. The writers paint Reagan as a warmonger when he was anything but. He stood up for America but kept us out of the messes idiots like LBJ got us into. Since I like stories about space travel, I might continue with the series, but I hate the emphasis on sex, gay rights and inaccurate characterizations of past historical figures. Thank God the militarization of space did not rise to this level in real history. The world likely wouldn’t have survived. To sum up, season 1 was amusing, but season 2 became a mess and was difficult to endure. Hope season 3 has a better respect to history and the intelligence of the audience.

Foundation is very loosely based on the novels. Frankly I’d like it much better if it were more closely aligned to the books. The visuals are impressive as is most of the acting, but the scripts, character makeovers, and overall plot design is wanting. The revised plots are disjointed and hard to follow. The relationships they are trying to sell us are painful to endure. Having two of the main characters jump timelines with suspended animation tech is just too crude of a plot line when you are expecting us to suspend reality. Yes, I understand the original Foundation trilogy was written long ago and needed enhancements for a 21st century audience, but putting soap opera style relationships in a masterwork is cheesy drivel. I’m giving this a middle of the road rating for the visual spectacle, but the clumsy writing is an utter failure.

If they focus mainly on the medicine. I’m not a homophobe, but the general population doesn’t have close to the ratio of gay to straight couples as portrayed on this show. Really getting tired of the in your face - we’re here, we’re ****, get used to it mind set of Shondaland. Really ruins the story flow. I frankly don’t want to see the public or private displays of affection by any gender orientation on this show. The problem with this show revolves around the writers’ inability to write a script without one of the main characters breaking the rules. This revival is a big gamble. It tries to mix new characters with the old to get us distracted from the fact that this is actually a new CSI and not a full reboot of the show that lasted a lot longer than it should (the Ted Danson years were painful!) I am getting tired of the “frame up” David Hodges running plot and hope they resolve it and put it to bed soon. I haven’t decided whether or not I’d like the Grissom and Sara characters to stay on the show or not. Most of me says they’ve done their cameos and need to fade away and see if the new cast can carry this spinoff of the original CSI into a ratings win. Addendum: They did finally resolve the underlying frame David Hodges plot line, but it was done clumsily and hurried. We will see if the show can last without its gimmick plot twists.

Lately the writers have their supporting characters softening their edges too much to "humanize them. It doesn't come off as authentic. We are supposed to believe these hard-nosed cops just woke up one day and decided they had to get all soft and likable. Not buying it. The edge is how they survive the day and the job. There is and isn’t something to like about this show. The quality of the music and the judging is all over the place— sometimes good, but as often very bad. The idea of putting a pleasant face on a vocal performance is quite old, the Irish used to have performers hide behind screens and had a person stand in front just to look pleasant for the audience. While I can see why some shows want us to judge the quality of the singing apart from the appearance, this is both good and bad. It’s good that singers who don’t have superstar looks get a shot to be heard, but aren’t the producers at the same time saying “your looks aren’t good enough — you’d never make it on your own without our tech!” What are these performers going to do when the avatar is gone? Will just this show change their careers forever? Don’t think so. Frankly I think this show reinforces the very biases it pretends to condemn.
