With a compelling cast of characters and an unending swath of secrets to uncover, The Watchful Eye is instantly addictive, and has all the potential to become your next TV obsession.

It’s just a solidly built thriller, with a smartly assembled cast of characters and well-executed plot beats, whose brisk pace guarantees a consistently exhilarating watch. At a time when so many shows reach for prestige signifiers that exceed their grasp, that lack of pretense is as refreshing as it is fun.

I'm hooked! My new show for 2023. It certainly has an element of popcorn entertainment but in the best of ways. Great characters and stories. Fun unique premise. It has a fresh spooky feel to me. Definitely worth checking out.

This show had potential, but it’s too slow for the characters. A show with mediocre characters needs to move along to make up for them. If a story is going to unfold slowly or has a narrow premise, then the characters need to be especially interesting. This show has a narrow premise, a turtle story and mediocre characters. Not a good combination. I made it into episode four, at which point I was too bored to continue. Perhaps if Amy Acker had a bigger role because I usually enjoy her work. Or Aliyah Royale. I’m not familiar with her work, but I liked her character in this show. I thought Lex Lumpkin did a good job with his small role, but none of the other male characters were at all interesting. In short, slow story plus mediocre characters equals I’m not wasting my time.

No matter how much it gestures wildly at something more, The Watchful Eye is without the necessary suspense to hold up a story whose greatest revelation is how superficial it all is.

Decider
The first episode of The Watchful Eye just shows characters being grafted onto lots and lots of plot, with no storytelling to speak of. It may get better, but we’re not going to be around to see if it does.

Truly bad. Acting, plot, all of it. Time to cancel this one and actually make some good shows.
