The Punisher: One Last Kill

The Special Presentation is the character study that makes you more invested if you weren't already on board, while paving the way for a new era for the MCU's Punisher.

Punisher does a lot of killing in his Marvel Special Presentation. A whole lot. But layered into the over-the-top violence is a powerful character study of a PTSD-addled veteran who has lost nearly everything.

It’s an approach that doesn’t necessarily do anything new with the character in the MCU (nor does it address any of the shortcomings of that approach), but it’s one that succeeds in stripping away the extraneous fluff of the Netflix series and just giving fans what they crave.

The special is ultimately a mixed bag, doing little to elevate the character or engage the audience that’s already deeply familiar with The Punisher. Still, its low barrier of entry means that a few new people might find the character and dive deeper into his story.

As is, “Punisher” is pure grindhouse fare with more grunts and groans than dialogue; it’ll make you long for something with more meat on its bones.

What starts as a promising, street-level perspective on a tiny corner of Manhattan (accomplished far more convincingly than "Daredevil: Born Again" ever managed to do) eventually goes the way of pretty much anything else the MCU touches: an empty vessel for more empty spectacle to come.

In a virtually plotless 48-minute story, we're treated to a tiresome retread of the Punisher's self-destructive grief, paired with another of his bloodthirsty killing sprees. Narratively speaking, One Last Kill is such a nothingburger that you may wonder why it exists at all.

This movie delivers and is probably better than some recent MCU movies that have come out. I was quite surprised when I saw this. Didnt expect it to be all that.

10/10 Even though it's a special, it's totally worth it. There should be more of The Punisher. I hope people enjoy this special; every scene was amazing.

A Resolute Return to Brutal Retribution and Frank Castle's Blood-Soaked Life in Pink.260807 (3.2)This is Frank Castle's rose-tinted life. The narrative establishes a convincing justification for him to keep running forward even after fulfilling his revenge, transforming him into a punisher who delivers harsh life lessons and righteous retribution. He feels like a sweating beast carrying the much-missed flavor of Season 1, moving like a seasoned expert who farms real-time weapons single-handedly as if blessed with infinite coins. At the same time, because the character was layered with warm humanity across "The Punisher" and "Daredevil", he has grown into an immensely charming figure. As a former Marine Force Recon operative, Frank struggles with severe PTSD stemming from the devastating loss of his wife Maria Elizabeth, his daughter Lisa Barbara, and his son Francis David Jr. This trauma feels like the painful karma of having abandoned his family to volunteer for deployments simply because he missed the battlefield. His children bore their parents' names, and now auditory hallucinations and visions continually push him toward suicide. Among these apparitions, the only grounding presence is Curtis, his former comrade, medic, and counselor. Having lost his purpose after finishing his vengeance, Frank strips away his Marine insignia and even contemplates shooting himself at his family's gravesite. Yet it is right there that he encounters the phantom of the Punisher. Thanks to the chaos unleashed by Ma Gnucci, he ends up rescuing two children and two households, reclaiming the armory key he had left at his wife's grave. The local community also breathes life into his crusade. Charlie, the daughter of Frank's regular bakery, greets him believing the Punisher represents true justice despite the news broadcasts, while her parents Debbie and Andre treat him with profound respect. When the bakery is raided during the Gnucci mob's rampage, the cries remind Frank of his daughter, prompting him to stay behind and initiate a neighborhood purge rather than chasing down the boss. Even surrounded by corpses, Charlie remains unbothered, thanking Frank and presenting him with a handmade carnation. Meanwhile, the ruthless Ma Gnucci seeks vengeance after Frank eliminates her criminal family: her corrupt mafia boss husband Benny, her eldest cop son Bobby whose throat Frank slits mid-tryst, her restaurant-owning second son Eddie, and her favored pedophile son Carlo, whose death at 6:47 sparks a massive street bounty on Frank's head. Frank's protective instincts flare up repeatedly across his decaying surroundings, whether defending his front-door neighbor Isaiah and preventing a violent assault after hearing the boy scream, or reflecting on his ambiguous, lingering bond with Karen. Even the street thug who torments the elderly—initially lynching a homeless man and killing his dog Chemo, and later attempting to assault a retired fellow Marine Devil Dog in front of Gnucci's former diner while absurdly parading around in the stolen cap—exists in a cyclical setup solely to receive Frank's merciless reckoning. Following Bobby Gnucci's death, Little Sicily descends into further turmoil, recalling Frank's past sweep through Little Italy in Season 1 when rescuing Donnie. The suffocatingly grim atmosphere completely shifts into La Vie En Rose the moment Frank ignites his murderous spree, embracing the bloodthirsty nature Karen's vision warned of as he wields human meat shields and shotguns with effortless precision, unfailingly landing lethal shots to the head and heart amid relentless motion.

Just a watch punisher kill crooks short movie. Could have been great if it didn't have terrible cgi but if you like punisher you'll like this.

Meh Good to see the punisher back. This rendition is pretty mentally damaged. Seeing people who aren't there. It goes too far with that and it gets boring. There also seems to be something missing in that... was almost better when we knew he had issues but was more effective when it wasn't being rubbed into our face. Outside that it is basically a video game of killing. Again - a little boring. Whatever 'plot' device they used so an entire city is after punisher - it didn't really work. So - meh - in that I hope Punisher becomes a series again but - meh - in that I hope the producers got this part out of their system.
