An unexpected prequel that I enjoyed far more than the original. The music stayed on my playlist for a long time.

Entertaining take on the narco gangster world of England which consists of participants ranging from posh lords, to businessmen and working class people. Acting performances stand out, pacing was decent and the blend of comedic action and drama works well. However, the clever concept was executed with linear simplicity rather than complex well layered writing. Everything the show sets up for its finale is wasted on a rather dull continuation of a rehashed and retold story.

Playing into audiences love for luxury, a series that deals with old money getting involved in the criminal world makes alot of economic sense. The film deals in mostly stereotypes but most egregiously with the idea of a super crime family that only produces and sells weed. This detracts the most from whatever realism the series approaches, yet the film relies on this belief the most at the end. The series is quite cynical about religion but not so about the upper class. It has some family elements that are pleasant reminding us of richies much better work Rocknrolla. Overall if you like ritchie films it's a pleasant watch just don't expect anything impressive.

Watchable but pretty bad. The good scenes, general ideas and some details are revamped from Guy Ritchie's movies. Kinda like a postmortem hommage. The rest is the usual modern nonsensical crapfest, with shallow scripts, characters changing from one episode to the other, long empty dialogues and nothing interesting overall

The series tries to attract attention through exaggerated violence. Of course, drugs are one of the main themes. I don't know if it's the right way to always portray everything as more dangerous, brutal and unscrupulous. It's like a series on ADHD.

This series has the GuyRitchie sign all over it. It was one of the best shows lately. Great performances and photography.

The show surprised me. I thought it would be just a shallow series with British arrogance, but it turned out to be more complex, a nice mystery, very humorous scenes, and a story that flowed well throughout the season. All in all, we'd rate this: "well worth watching and enjoying so get out the popcorn."

I thought it was boring and generic and then the brother has his mental breakdown and threw a tantrum and i thought, where did he learn acting? In Kindergarten? Basically everything is bad, cast, plot, camera, sets, lightning, post processing.

Excellente série!! On retrouve le vrai Guy Ritchie de ses début avec des personnages hauts en couleur et un humour noir si bien maîtriser. Les dialogues sont tout simplement génial on se croirait presque dans du shakespear. Je recommande à tous.

Style over substance is the name of the game here and The Gentleman has plenty of the former. Does it compare in any way to the cult classic film? Nah. Will it entertain you for a weekend? Of course. The writing is pretty bad, with characters making decisions that clearly stretch any logic. But the CHARACTERS are what this show is about. Guy Ritchie just knows how to create some interesting characters. The kind you want to spend more time with. The kind that also may remind you a bit of someone you know. So sure the writers really let this one down, but it's still an adventure worth going on. Also still better than most of what else is out there now days.

More boring British crap. why is there so much brit shows now and most are dreadful. theo james is descent.

Loved it can't wait for more. Just wish I'd watched it over a longer period of time rather than binge watching the whole series in a week...

This TV series is not bad, but not Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" the movie good either.

Not too exciting but entertaining and interesting. Theo James and Kaya Scodelario perform very well and there's a real chemistry between them.

I'm a Guy Ritchie fan (for the most part) and this feels like they just let him play in his own playground for a while and I appreciate that. Really impressed with Theo James. I enjoyed season 2 of White Lotus, but he really shines here. Hope there's a season 2.

Despite a wobble in the middle few episodes where it all got a bit too ridiculous, this was a really enjoyable show and with a strong final few episodes too, I'm looking forward to see where it goes next.

i liked the movie, but think i enjoyed the show even more. it’s bombastic, funny, tense, & dark. in true guy ritchie style there are lots of moving parts to the plot. it’s dialogue rich, but even more importantly, so are its performances. it’s got that addictive pithy punch & cool aesthetic. kaya & daniel are my faves after theo james - the true lynchpin of the show & what grounds it. he’s flexing his acting chops here & his charisma knows no bounds.

Guy performed an excellent redirect with the series while remaining true to the elements of the film that made it so spectacular. If you are a fan of the film, you will be a fan of the series. As stated previously all the elements of the film are skillfully embedded into each epsiode. You know where it is going and you believe how its going to get there. The ride is amazing.

In Guy Ritchie's movie version Matthew McConaughey headed up a cannabis empire in Britain (my review). Ritchie has created this new series based on England's weed industry, but with a new cast headed by Theo James. He starts as a UN peace officer, called home to inherit his father's estate, which makes him a Duke. He soon discovers a secret underground marijuana farm on his property, which drops him into the crime world. Of course, this is classic Ritchie territory, even though things are a bit subdued from his usual violent outbursts. There are still a few moments of brutality, but quick and often off-camera. Other of his characteristic elements include several idiot characters, sharp dialogue, intricate plotting, amusing on-screen text and touches of weird (like the groundskeeper's indoor menagerie that includes a fox and porcupine). The result is a completely enjoyable romp, as we watch one man go from moral aristocrat to scheming crime boss. (8 one-hour eps)

A good cast and high production values but a story that takes a long time (8 episodes) to not go very far at all. The main character seems like he will have the potential to be a strong lead yet he remains entirely passive for most of the series and never displays any particular strengths (capacity for violence, intelligent planning, quick wits, humor, charm, etc.), like the show he's just kind of 'there'. It is reminiscent of some of RItchie's earlier work but doesn't have their energy, frenetic rhythm, or memorable dialogue. Essentially, the main flaw is the lackluster writing, which squanders what had the potential to be a very good show by failing to take any risks, attempting any creative plotting, or developing its characters beyond their somewhat bland surfaces.

Proper Guy Ritchie stuff made into series. Stylish cinematography and slick production design capturing the gritty glamour of London's criminal underbelly. Not giving it a higher rate due to some plot holes that could be easily fixed (lazy writing seems to be the norm these days) nonetheless it is quite entertaining with solid thrills and laughs. Do hopet here will be a season 2.

Entertaining and gripping from start to finish. Leaves you wanting more but ultimately a nice binge for a weekend.
