I really wanted to like the film and was genuinely excited for it, and Pattinson is always good. But everything is just off here—casting is off, script is off, plot is off, characters are off. The romance has zero chemistry and is just odd...They insert another hit-you-over-the-head-theme of imperialism. Gee, haven't seen this done before (Pocahontas, Avatar, etc.) Those movies succeeded because they set it up from the start. This film introduces it with about 20 minutes left. It's like the writers ran out of ideas and needed something to fill the time. You really just don't grow to care about anything in the film. Big waste of time.

Such a smart and compelling and intriguing script. Grant is excellent as are the two actresses. I wish they would have explored the notion of Grant studying them instead of how it ended. But was on the edge of my seat very well done.

Just stop the remakes already. The plot is all over the place, performances are okay, but you don't care about anyone. Why would you, as there will only be one Maximus. Cool battles, but makes no sense overall.

The script is wonderful with a phenomenal performance from Bateman. Didn't care for the detective story-line, and thought it was a missed opportunity to have a father figure for Kopek, since the villain alludes to the fact that he didn't amount to much. Some roles feel like a bit of fill-in-the-blank casting for modern audiences, but overall, the script is strong for the two main characters, and it was RIVETING and LOVED it. Of course, some things occur for the sake of the plot, but overall, great dialogue, great conflict, great stakes. There will be a sequel.

I loved the Witch, and Eggers, but this was so boring, cheesy, over-the-top, didn't stay till the end. Depp is good, and this script is a TALL order for everyone involved, but just drags on and on. And on. And on...
