Season 3 starts and ends strong but the episodes in between are mixed. It is standard for Voyager to have excellent episodes mixed in with mediocre or weaker once. This sounds maybe a bit negative because there are a lot of must see or recommendations but it saved the series. Mediocrity alone would have lead to cancellation. There are no great mistakes here except a decision of captain Janeway at the end I consider the worst crime anyone has done in Star Trek (details below without spoilers). All actors have mastered their roles and overall it is pretty worthwhile. One character leaves the show shortly after this season. I think it was OK. because they did not give her a better role / character development. Overall a good season with many good episodes I would recommend watching (but not all episodes). I want to rate it higher but the weaker episodes are also valid. My recommendations are: “Basics part 2” which is a fitting continuation from last seasons cliffhanger. It has a well told story and conclusion. “Flashback” is a Tuvok and Janeway focused episode with flashbacks connected to Star Trek 6. Special guest star George Takei. Well written and executed also nostalgia bonus. “The Swarm” for the intense main plot and the story of the doctor. You see how far he has come. “Remember” for its emotional sad story. It is the kind that is really good but I will not rewatch ever again. “Futures End part 1 and 2” I did not recognize that Sarah Silverman is Rain Robinson. I like the story, character motivations and conclusion. However some parts are boring and it barely reached my recommendation list. “The Q and the Grey” is similar. I enjoy the Q characters and continuation of the last Q episode or better said ramifications but will admit that it is weaker. Now come a lot of unmemorable episodes for me until “Bloodfever”. I enjoy the character dynamics and reveal at the end. You know they would appear sooner or later;-). “Unity” for the idea, writing, complex story and possibilities made possible because of the conclusion. Sadly they did not continue this story arc. “Before and after” for Kes and a good time travel story. “Distant Origin” for the clever idea, story, Voth and dilemma straight out of real life. “Displaced” for the clever problem that occurred, the solution and tactical thinking. “Worst case scenario” for the idea, a great twist and overall story. “Scorpion part 1” for being an even better cliffhanger with a new treat and the introduction of our favorite old Star Trek “friends”. However this is the second time I would have stopped Captain Janeway if I were there. This time at the cost of my life, soul and morality. One of her actions is maybe the worst thing a Starfleet officer or any person in the galaxy has done. There would be better solutions and she has far more (fictional) blood on her hands than all of histories monster combined with this in my humble opinion. Think about it after watching. All they will do after this she enabled and is partly to blame. There will be countless billions suffer because of her (if not trillions or even more).

For better or worse Voyager pretty much abandoned many of the running storylines (such as The Caretaker’s race) from the first two seasons, but the results as ever were fairly mixed and the show remained fairly inconsistent from week to week.
