Fantastic and beautiful show about life and love. I really wish it had more time, but this was exceptional.

Didn't have a clue I would like this show this much when I started. Feels so sincere. Bridget Everett is a great performer.

Sometimes this show is all too real. Few shows are set in the Midwest and even fewer follow the kind of intermittent workers that live there. (Who doesn’t need a break from watching office workers?) The humor is so genuine that I wonder if the camera crew follows these people around and records what they improv. This is such a delightful show, I hope it catches on like Schitt’s Creek.

Reminds me of growing up on Alabama. Fun, light-hearted, not too heavy even when dealing with heavy subjects. Great acting, casual conversations and funny situations - the show highlights the fact even rural areas have diversity and people with different personalities and viewpoints.

Somebody Somewhere paints a portrait of real life in the Midwest centered around Sam whose sister recently died and who still feels great sadness at the loss. There's a feeling of aimlessness to the show that reflects Sam's own apparent aimlessness, but that's not a bad thing -- in fact, it's one of the show's strengths. The plot meanders much like real life, yet it brims with humanity, and watching these people try to make their way through life is largely engaging. We learn that Sam was a talented singer and athlete in high school, yet her life apparently didn't fulfill the promise of her high school years. There's an underlying sadness to Sam which feels only partly related to the loss of her sister. She meets Joel who knew and admired her in high school, though she doesn't remember him, and they become fast friends. Their relationship causes both of them to grow/change in ways they might not have otherwise. This is a quiet but engaging character study with wonderfully natural acting and dialogue. Very little feels contrived here -- almost everything rings true. If you don't shed a couple of tears and have a couple of laughs, you're probably a zombie. It feels like there's much more to learn about Sam, and I hope subsequent seasons reveal what's only hinted at in season 1. (Hope we get more than 7 episodes in season 2.)

Enjoyed it. The real stars are the family, friends, the setting and the tone. Jeff Hiller (Joel) is amazing. Michael Hagerty (Dad) is great as he is in anything he does. Murray Hill (as Dr. Fred) is hysterical. Points for the non-Hollywood cast and the setting is pretty (even though largely filmed in Illinois).

Bridget Everett is a comic and singer who stars in this autobiographical series. She plays a woman who returns home to Kansas and tries to adjust to small town life. There are some serious encounters with her family, but she also befriends several fellow outcasts for fun. Everett is a unique personality that some will find interesting and others won't get (she also sings a few times). The standout comic performance goes to Jeff Hiller, as nerdy gay best friend. Peppered throughout the laid-back character humor (no real punchlines here) are moments of tenderness, esp. her mother's struggle with alcoholism. While there's not really a plot, the individuals and their interactions explore the human condition with occasional left-field humor and endearing warmth. (Seven 30-minute episodes with Season 2 already renewed)

It’s sweet and sad and has a charming cast, but the subsequent chapters can’t hold the strength of the pilot.

Really enjoying this slice of life in a small town dramedy, but I have to say my least favorite part is Everett. I love all the supporting character (barring the trans professor who constantly makes bad jokes out of pronouns and misgendering), especially Joel, but Everett seems to take advantage of all of them and often, though inadvertently, treats the poorly. I can't tell if that is self-deprecating humor or she is painting herself as an ashole who occasionally does good. Regardless, I can't stop watching.

No one looks like a TV star and that's a good thing. While nothing dramatic seems to happen, the show is surprisingly absorbing and real, with a high "feel good" factor.
