I've read the books, and to this day, they are my favorite pieces of fiction ever. This? I have no clue how Rick was persuaded to grant his seal of approval to... this. After episode two, season 1, I was simply unable to watch it any longer. The plot: way slower, filled with frankly unneeded bs, not to mentiom that Percy... just didn't feel like Percy anymore. Overall feel: the humor and soul just feels ripped right out. This series reminds me of a Narnia rip-off now. The whole mythological aspect is watered down to generic fantasy in many places where it counts. The casting: NOT a can of worms I wish to open. Just one sentence: NOT faithful to the source material in more ways than one. Overall a huge dissapointment. This trash should not have been made.

Percy Jackson season 1 has lots of attributes that make it very promising. However, there is also so much that concerns me. First off the actors are amazing. Walker Scobell is Percy Jackson, period. And the show tries very hard to stay true to the source material. Unfortunately that sometimes leads to characters feeling restrained, it's like the actors have the capabilities to get more in the role, but Disney if holding them to a tight leash of what to do and say. And in attempting to stick to the source material, they manage to screw up some scenes really bad, the casino scene was better in the movie and of the movie does something better you have a problem. Despite all of my complaining this show really does shine at certain parts and makes enough changes to make this show fresh for even the seasoned fans without feeling inaccurate.

This show is really boring, Jesus Christ There's not a single villain in this story? Cronos is just a mummy. Those gods aren't even powerful enough to be called gods. Those demigods? Just look like an average human with a sword. Annabeth and Percy are just two stupid kids. Look at Harry Potter as an example. You'll never say that about Harry or Hermione, just Rony, and he still will beat your ass in chess and has a comic relief as an excuse to be stupid. And for the villain? We already had more about Voldemort in 5 minutes of the first HP's movie than the two whole seasons of Percy Jackson gave us about Cronos and his minion Luke. And of course, every kid in this show is just a bad actor, which gives me pain watching it.

I am sorry the characters are boring. Casting made bad choices. So far from the books. Needs to be recasted and better story telling.

Season two has improved the show a lot, with better acting, writing, effects, and humour.

A lot of problems, but it's a lot better than the movies (although the bar isn't set high)

I don't understand why Hulu is so terrible at letting me know when new series have new episodes but I just recently stumbled upon episode 2 and I absolutely love it! I can't wait until December for season 2. The cast as well put together and are actually good- which is not always the case these days.

Cons: This show is incredibly boring. I don't even know how it's possible for a fantasy series to be boring, but somehow it was. Now, I have never read the books, but that shouldn't matter. I did not read the books prior to watching Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Twilight, or the Hunger Games, and those are some of my favorite movies of all time. A show based on a book series should make me want to read the books. However, this show made me take the Percy Jackson series off my reading list cuz it was so boring. Now, you can also make the excuse "oh, but it's just a kid's show; it's not that deep." Um, I don't even see how kids can watch this show and actually like it. I feel like if I watched this show when I was younger, it would have put me to sleep. And I actually like kids' shows and movies. I think Spy Kids and Ninjago are masterpieces. I can't wait to show my future kids those shows one day. You know which show I will not be showing my future kids? Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Also, none of the Olympic gods in this show were interesting at all. None of them had any presence or aura or felt threatening at all. They all felt so bland, bored, and dull. In fact, those 3 words can be used to describe this entire show. Every time a character spoke in this show they were dropping exposition. It got to the point where I felt like the only way to understand who anybody was talking about was by reading the books or learning about Greek mythology. This show really needs to learn how to show and not tell. This series also has an uninspired and forgettable soundtrack. If you put on the soundtrack for say Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, I would instantly be able to tell you which franchise the songs are from. However, if you put on the theme from this show, I would not be able to remember it at all. Really the only scenes that were good or made me feel any emotions were the scenes with the monsters or Percy's mother. Also, for a fantasy series, there was a severe lack of action. Most of the show is just the characters standing in place with no emotions on their faces talking about confusing backstory like it's common knowledge. Pros: There's nothing good to say about this show.

Stay with the book! If you as the director want to write your own story with your main characters, their looks and characteristics then do that. But don’t change it if you are based on a book where it’s otherwise!

I want to give this a seven, but the run-time just didn't allow for any truly cohesive pacing. I do think the series has a good amount of potential as the actors mature and hopefully the scriptwriters resist the urge to use them as exposition devices.

The series was one of the most anticipated of the year due to the significance of adapting the Percy Jackson universe, a task that was not addressed in the previous two films. In addition to a substantial investment, Disney chose to involve Rick Riordan, author of the books, in preparing the script and selecting the main cast. However, my assessment of the series lies more in its fidelity to the original work than in the narrative itself.Unfortunately, the series fails to maintain a consistent pace and prove to be somewhat cohesive, which is satisfactory considering the attempt to condense 22 chapters into just 8 30-minute episodes. Although the screenwriters tried to compensate for the narrative gaps by faithfully following the books, this did not prove to be enough. The main obstacles of 'Percy Jackson' lie in its narrative arcs, which may seem somewhat confusing to those who have not read the books, due to the approach chosen to adapt the first book. However, not all is lost. I believe that, with an extension of the duration of its episodes and more careful pre- and post-production - including real sets and greater dedication to visual effects - the series has the potential to become one of the most outstanding today, as it already has fundamental elements : a charismatic cast, the full participation of the original author and a loyal and open fan base. The second season shows great promise and is imperative, as long as it is carried out competently.

An overall good show with a few rough edges. As adaptation it is loyal to the book but feels like a (minor) rewrite or updated version. The YouTuber Dominic Noble said something like “Never hire an artist to refurbish his/her own work. They will simply paint it over and redo it”. To go to the elephant in the room. Many feared it is woke because of race swapped characters. However those actors fully deliver and I have no complains. As reference: Annabeth Chase is one of my favorite characters so I was extra critical. To be fair, and that is caused by the writing, they downgraded her parts in the story. The story is about Percy Jackson who is drawn into a world and adventure like he never could imagine. Like I said it is loyal to the book but they made a few changes. Percy, Annabeth and Grover are more like Sherlock Holmes and see through a lot of things they stumbled into in the books. This is a mayor complain as it takes away the suspense and excitement. Also they do this multiple times (Statue lady, worst bed seller, casino and villain reveal). Also the gods are far better parents than in the books. However the rest is immersive and won me over. The characters are well chosen and won me over. The only problems are with the script that could be ironed out a little. I will say it is a minor complaint. The special and practical effects work well. Overall this was a positive surprise and I would recommend the show. I hits more than it misses.

Mediocre. This could have been so much better. Instead, it's bland and tasteless. I should not be reminded of parts of the movie that I liked better.

I am incredibly disappointed. I love books since you can read, especially the ones where Percy and Annabeth are present. Ualled about the series and waited, then saw the cast and was disappointed for the first time. I thought Percy would have a wig or dyed, but no, maybe not a consent rug like Radcliffe having lenses. But a heroine who fought the stereotype of the dumb blonde? Further blonde girls are considered stupid because they are BLONDE. I leave aside that the series is mostly CGI and the characters' personalities are completely different than in the book. But what hurts me the most is that once again, my skin color looks like a trend. I'm black and so what? Now black people have to replace white people because they don't have their own story? Tomi Adeyemi's books can be filmed. I didn't choose my skin, but I don't want it to be pressed into white characters now, I'm black so I want real black girls. You could do Heroes, Hazel is great to tell the story. I don't like the whole thing, the books deserved better.

They changed quite a lot of scenes that took away the chance for character growth and the actual plot. Like how Annabeth already saw Luke at the end, or the moment he meets Zeus and Poseidon. The fighting scenes were a bit lackluster and didn't do them justice, like how they handled Medusa or the Harpies. They also made it seem like they're making excuses for the gods and how they treat their children, which undermines Luke's point and why so many demigods joined him. The parallels between Medusa and Sally, and after that Medusa and Annabeth was a very smart addition as it starts to show how Athena abuses people.

Cast was great, story ****. Some of the changes made from the book were downright confusing, especially considering the original author was supposedly more involved. Had plenty of good moments, but I don't think it was worth everything in between.

It's a great start for the series, there's a few minor things I thought could've been better here and there but overall it's solid. I feel like (for me anyway) episodes 1-3 were paced really well, 4-7 seemed to drag a bit, and episode 8 seemed to breeze by. To me I feel like the series should've been 10 episodes, add one at the beginning to show Percy training a bit more and learning about the world and then split the final episode into 2 parts even if it means they're only 25-30 minutes instead of 40.

Although I'm not the target audience for this show, I find the episode to short, not enough energy or skipping fast over stuff that I deemed important in the book and then expending stupid non-important piece. They seem to want to go with a weird style that everyone is bad or somewhat not so bad, except a few key characters. I'll wait until season finally to see what my final judgment is, but as of now it's a bust.

It's a kids show but I decided to watch it and it was a waste of time. I'm stopping now after the first episode. It's just super boring, the characters are not bad written but just low and trivial speaking stereotypes.

Overall, the series is doing very well. My favorite episodes so far are 4 and 5. The major issue with the series is the short duration of the episodes, and it feels like the series is being rushed. In general, the adaptation is very good, the CGI is well done. I just wish the episodes were longer and that they would delve more into the story. I'm loving the series and really hope that Disney adapts the subsequent books.

Interestingly, all of the positivereviewers have never reviewed anything else. I guess Disney has figured out that no one trusts IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes.
The show is horrible. It's a lot like when Stephen King tried to make movies. There is literally no chemistry between the characters, and the kid playing Percy, wh will never become an adult actor, btw, is slightly better than the rest. Which makes hime below mediocre. It's sort of more like the books, but in the worst way possible. Its pandering so hard, its almost a unintentional comedy.

So back in 2022 I saw The Adam Project and Secret Headquarters. I was positively surprised by the actors, the film itself can be criticized but it wasn't a flop for me. The young man (Walker Scobell), who made his first "big" movie, totally picked me up, so I "followed" his career up to that point. That same year, Disney announced the Percy Jackson series. I could hardly wait for December 2023 and was totally excited. And now what can I say, the series leans much more on the books than the 2010 movie (the movie was entertaining). The effects are well done and well placed. The story so far (episode 4) makes sense and really draws me into this world. The actors are superbly chosen and everyone is comfortable in their roles - you can clearly see that. In addition, Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson is the best thing that could have happened to the series. He does his job as an actor better than many adult actors. The conversations are not too dull or too long where you could fall asleep. I'm already 24, soon to be 25, but it's at this age that the series has picked me up, which tells me that it's not a children's series. Overall, Percy Jackson is a very good series so far. I will update the rating on January 31st (last episode for season 1) if I don't forget. Translated with **** (free version)

So far, I think the actors aren't that good. Plus, every episode ends right when we are starting to enjoy the series. I believe that the series shouldn't be just like the books, cause the books have a different time, different speed. I do feel like I'm watching something that doesn't have anything happening.

Without even talking about the show itself, the soundtrack is great. I especially like the new PJO theme, fits so well into this urban fantasy genre. Acting was overall amazing, Walker as Percy obviously steals the show. First three episodes were definitely different from the books, all in good ways. I especially like the show’s much more negative portrayals of even gods we were conditioned to like in the original (specifically Poseidon and Athena). Too busy for a full review, but first three episodes at the very least (as they are the only ones available as I am writing this) are a must watch! I didn’t like the black screen transitions much.

GIVE. US. A. STORY. This is long drawn-out irritating, annoying, slow-paced and tedious. The first episode is supposed to draw us in. Instead we're left hoping the main character dies and the series ends. Stop with the origin stories. Bout 99% of Hero/Villain origin stories are boring. Sadness. Gloom. Doom. Nap-inducing power discovery and learning to harness it. Why does Disney hire the WORST writers?

who could've thought that if you give a good writer a bunch of money to make a show based on his books and give him full control of the story, it actually turns out good, crazy right?

There's NO WAY people like this. It's even worse than the movies. Im not joking. The show feels so cheap (acting, story, visual effects) and everything is way too rushed. The purpose of a TV show adaptation is to take times. Everything is too Disney-ish and too childish. I'm sure people will be turned off by the end of the series.

Disney has only released two episodes, but so far this series does a much better job than the movies of translating Rick Riordan's books into film. The actors are closer in age to the characters that they are portraying (although still a little bit older than 12). While the cast is much younger, they do a fine job of credibly portraying their characters. This script hews closer to the original story, including much of its humor. By giving the books a full series (instead of a movie), the script includes much of the original details rather than trying to condense everything into a two hour movie.

Half Right, Half Wrong...I know there are a lot of people against the movies due to their inaccuracies, but those movies are vastly superior to this series. If there is a way I can describe this series, it is low quality and just the bare minimum of everything. You name it, Music, Characters, Actors, Dialogue, Acting, Props, Storytelling, CGI, Logic, Cinematography. Don't waste your time here unless you have nothing to watch. 5/10, Disney I warned you, I knew from the very first trailer that this was not it, Prepare to Lose another Billion Dollars.
See ya later losers. Oh, the only reason why this series gets a 5/10 is that it tries to fix mistakes from the movies, the problem is that the details from the books don't translate well into live action, the book requires everything to be near perfect which puts this at a higher difficulty do cinematically.

its nice to finally see your favorite little guy and his best friends come to life like this. right now its so faithful i am actually surprised at how much i like it. every change works, all the questions are answered so far. im guessing the huge chunk of world-building in the first chapters was split into the next episodes and they will talk as they go. i like that change for this format. im happy with this. its never boring. 10/10.

Heavily expository dialog, slow pacing, odd framing of scenes--why so many shots from behind when characters are speaking?--and clumsy fight choreography are just some of the factors that prevented me from enjoying the first two episodes of a show I was eagerly anticipating. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I prefer the admittedly flawed film.
