Dark is undoubtedly one of the greatest TV-shows I have ever watched. The series is about a small German town, Winden, and four families whose children disappear miraculously, involving time travel. The plot unfolds over three seasons and each season it gains more depth. At the end, which is really satisfying, everything really starts to make sense. It is just so astonishingly deep and profound and does not even come close to anything I have ever seen. Whoever wrote it is truly a genius. Everything is so wonderfully connected and there are plot twists almost every episode. That is why recommend watching it actively. Furthermore, the characters are multidimensional (literally), I love the music and the setting and the production quality in general is far from disappointing. Not only thrilling, but also dramatic, captivating and thought provoking, dark excels as the first German produced Netflix original series and is a masterpiece and a must watch for everyone enjoying thriller or mystery.

An excellent story! I really enjoyed the ingenuity and complexities of it! I’d have given it 10/10 but I hated the crappy Netflix songs that come in every episode about ¾ of the way through. Also the final season felt rushed. I would definitely watch it again though!

Strengths: Multi-layered storytelling that blends crime, sci-fi, and family drama. visuals and haunting soundtrack morally gray characters with human motivations. raising questions about fate, free will, and the cycle of time. Weaknesses: Overly complex timelines and numerous characters can be confusing for some viewers. maybe slow pacing in certain episodes, especially mid-season. Last but not least the season finale leaves many questions unanswered, functioning more as a setup for later seasons. Verdict: It was good.

Dark is an impressive German series that feels like a successful mix between Good Times, Bad Times and Back to the Future. The show stands out through its depth and philosophical elements while still managing to remain thrilling. Especially the second season is captivating and addictive—comparable to **** course, Dark is not for everyone, since it forces the viewer to keep watching, which can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Once you start, though, it pulls you in, and you desperately want to know what happens next. For me personally, the only negative aspect is the sheer number of main characters. You have to listen carefully and keep track of names and family relations in order not to lose the thread. But for seasoned series lovers or Lord of the Rings fans, this shouldn’t be a problem. Personally, I prefer a clear main protagonist over a vast ensemble. Fortunately, this is a series and not just a **** audio quality in the first season is unfortunately subpar, and the actors often speak unclearly. For non-native German speakers, this can be quite a challenge—though it’s typical of German productions. Aside from that, the series is a remarkable achievement, especially in terms of its complex and logical plot connections. That someone managed to write such a demanding script is truly impressive. Dark is thrilling, gripping, and logical at the same time.I still don’t really understand why there are three Martas at the end, but ultimately it doesn’t matter. It’s hard to believe this is a German series at all, since it goes far beyond what one normally expects from German television. The soundtrack is perfectly fitting and practically serves as another main character in the **** you have the time and nothing else to do, Dark is the perfect series.

Utter dog ****... nd complete garbage. Plot is good but its so redundant nd confusing. Plus drags on nd on... unnecessary background music haunts you unnecessarily. Whole things could be summerised in one season. But needlessly 3 season of non stop flabbergesting was done. Its very slow nd artificial emotion generation was done which fails misersbly.

Dark was simply incredible for me—the entire development of the series blew me away. Right from the beginning, it starts with impact and never loses its grip. The unfolding of the plot, the intricate storylines, the background elements, the actors, and especially the logic that carries consistently from season one to season three—all of it is masterfully done.Everything is connected, and that’s exactly the series’ core theme. It’s something that feels beyond ordinary, almost beyond logic—but not in a way that’s incomprehensible. Dark is a brilliantly crafted show that grabs your attention through its details, its visuals, and its narrative, and it constantly invites you to think. From the haunting soundtrack to the complex world-building and the deep philosophical layers behind the story—it’s simply astonishing.

The best series I can think of, anytime I am asked. Superbly acted, with excellent casting choices across the board, a cryptic plot that is slowly but surely unraveled and explained. Splendid music and photography that make most scenes stand out greatly. A perfect series, and I'll never believe anything else.

Maybe my favorite show of all time. I liked every aspect of the show except for the last season, which was boring in the middle, but the ending made up for it. So if you haven't watched it, please give it a shot. A masterpiece!

An excellent, thoughtful series from start to finish. If you want to see the whole story, and not how to rearrange some sketches, from series to series, then this is for you. Science fiction is present here, but it's led by drama, and that's not a bad thing. All the relationships develop logically and have a climax and finale, such was not in popular series for 20 years. Highly recommended.

A história é confusa e bem única. É uma linha do tempo tão confusa que praticamente todo mundo é avó e filho ao mesmo tempo um do outro. Mas apesar disso, a história é muito legal, com uma linha temporal única em que teoricamente tudo sempre acontece. E o final também faz sentido.

Just finished watching Dark, and without a doubt, this series represents a peak moment in human storytelling. The complexity and depth of this show are truly mind-blowing. Initially, I planned to watch only the first episode to see if it piqued my interest, but I ended up binge-watching the entire series in just three days. It was absolutely worth it.Every aspect of the show is top-notch, from the stellar performances by the actors to the breathtaking cinematography and captivating background score. The concept of time is handled with such genius that it adds a layer of intrigue and brilliance rarely seen on television.I must say, Dark should be considered the frontrunner of all shows ever created by human civilization. It is a masterpiece that sets a new standard for what television can achieve.

Easily in my all times top 10 for the plot, the atmosphere and the characters! Please, don't rate it badly because you don't understand the plot! This show was short in German, if you don't speak it fluently add subtitles in your language, don't use dubbing in english... And stop whining if the music is too loud and sometime cover the dialogues... it's on purpose! (Read the subtitles If you must...)

Dark is easily the best show that I have ever seen. It is truly a masterpiece. The acting, score and cinematography are all great. I'm a huge Sci-fi fan, but generally don't love time travel stories. My only problem is that I have no idea where to go from here. It's changed the way that I view fictional television and I'd be incredibly impressed if anyone ever tops it. It's a shame 1899 was canceled, which is something that changed the way I view Netflix, or maybe Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese could have outdone themselves.

I'm a little shocked at the glowingly high praise for this show. The first season is pretty good and held my interest, but soon after starting season two it became a tedious slog. Because I'm a completionist, I powered through to the end. The series is just too confusing and impenetrable to enjoy. I like the look. Most of the acting is solid (I watched the English dub, and I felt the voiceover acting wasn't too distracting), but all the bouncing back and forth between timelines and parallel universes became a chore. If you enjoy putting together a multi-page spreadsheet in order to keep track of all the characters, their alternate versions, time-traveling hijinks, etc., then you may really like this. I actually felt like the final minutes of the final episode were pretty engaging and made for a nice end, but it took MUCH too long to get there. Dark would have been a better show if it was no more than 10 episodes long.

In my young life I have rarely been so enraptured by the absolute genius level of skill to craft of a story as intimate, original, and masterful that is the narrative of Dark. This series three seasons is a delicate, extraordinary work that promotes profound ideas and mystery surrounding the concept of time, love, and the human experience. From the first frame to its last, Dark entices you in with its premise and demands your full attention. It is exceedingly rare to find few flaws in a long form experience such as a TV show, yet Dark achieves this feat. Acting, directing, narrative pacing, visual effects, music, it is all here and it all fits flawlessly. To say that creators Baran bo Odar and Jante Friese have garnered a fan in me is an understatement. I'll gladly throw money and time at whatever these two masters of storytelling decide to put out next. Dark is a triumph in every possible way.

The most cleverly written show in the world, flawed character, romance, is there any free will? or has it all happened, a must watch, Skipping single frame of this show and you lose the story that's how dense and tightly packed story is.

This truly is a beautiful show, it conveys so much emotion. It is unique and separates itself from other "time travel" movies and tv shows. The critic reviews of this show are really not accurate. Possibly the best show (or movie for that matter) ever.

One of the best shows that I have ever seen. Great Storytelling, amazing acting from the whole cast (this is a highlight), beautiful photography and a plot cleverly designed. The combination of the previous features and the soundtrack (another highlight) provides an intense immersion. The ending wraps up everything perfectly giving you a fantastic feeling of satisfaction. The only "negative" I could find, for other people, is that you need to put a lot of attention in the story (not a negative for me, at least).

Martin A. - The most realistic time travel. Dark is a work of art on screen. Like all works of art it starts off with colors and strokes and the whole picture isn't clear until the end. What I hated. This story does not hold your hand. It expects your attention and demands it in spades. This isn't a bad thing but in one blink or you'll miss it, and since the whole show is in German a viewer can miss a whole lot in one sentence. Some times the show does not even need dialog. They expect you to understand who someone is or long still shots of buildings without saying a single word. What I love. I've learned to love all the characters in this story. Ulrich, one person I hated in the show, started to grow on me later on, especially impressive since I also hated the younger version of him as well. The less you know going into this story the better. Jonas and Martha are best couple! An amazing time traveling epic journey! This is a must own. 9.8 out of 10.

Dark is a heavily plot driven show that doesn't get rolling until near the end of the 1st season. Individual characters can be a bit shallow, but getting to know them is required to make sense of the story. There are so many characters that it takes most of the first season just to get the basics about the important characters down. The show dangles a pretty meh attempt at a murder thriller, and fills in the boring gaps with haunting cinematography and music, just so it's not an unwatchable snooze fest during the slow start. Unfortunately, during that first season it came close many times to just completely boring me out of my mind, but I'm glad I stuck through with it. By the end of the first season, the rules of the world become kind of clear and the story goes totally bonkers in the best way possible. Literal dimensions are added on top of the bleh murder mystery and it becomes a serious trip. The characters never get super interesting though, and it's hard to care too much about them; but that's clearly not the point of the show. Pure curiosity about how this insane web shapes up is what drives interest.

I have to admit I really liked the first two seasons, even if it I have some issues with them. I think the first season sets up a bunch of interesting mysteries, and sets up characters pretty well. Season 2 starts unraveling some of the mysteries, and it moves toward an interesting "end point", but once season 3 comes along, the feces really hits the fan. Mild spoilers ahead. Basically, once you have a decent grasp of what's going on at the end of season 2, how the time travel works and who is related to who, season 3 comes in and dumps a ton of additional info that makes everything that happened in season 1 and 2 obsolete. The familial relationships become even more confusing and convoluted to the point where it's basically impossible for things to actually resolve. Tons of story lines that were important in season 1 and 2 become filler essentially. What starts as a murder mystery in a small dysfunctional town with some time travel sprinkled in, turns into a series of "gotcha!" twists that are more interested in shocking you than telling any sort of a story. The time traveling rules seem arbitrary and change according to the needs of the plot. Every now and then there's a big exposition dump that is supposed to sound profound, but is often just an excuse to use technical jargon to handwave plotholes away or throw in a line from Nietsche to sound clever. Add in a bit of biblical imagery, and you've got the unholy trinity of profound plot clichés. Oh, and that guy from timeline A who just died? Naw, he's still alive because timeline A has another alternate timeline - let's call it A-prime -and it's happening at the same time. It's not a different timeline, it's the same, just different. Trust us, it's good writing, we swear. Also ignore the fact that the big story ending plot point is something that hasn't been foreshadowed at all, and involves characters that are only introduced in the last episode. There are also some odd editing decisions, some strange cuts and transitions make a few scenes confusing or jarring. Not anything that would ruin a good series, but most of the bad stuff is in season 3, so, yeah. Also, I'm not sure if this was in season 1 and 2, but in season 3, the vast majority if not all of the episodes have a 3-4-minute montage of shots that show how depressed all the people in the series are while a depressing song plays. We get it, it's "Dark". All in all, I wouldn't recommend starting the series, because even though the first two seasons are good, they're not self-contained and are incomplete without season 3, which then ruins everything. Just watch something else.

Wow, what a roller coaster ride over 3 seasons! Dark is probably the most untypical German series I have ever seen. A mercilessly continuous story over all seasons and with every season it gets even more complex. A compliment to the producers and writers who managed to tell a very complex story without going into logic holes and plot holes. Dark is really well told throughout, nice to see that this art still exists today. Most actors do a good job and the choice of locations is great. Dark spreads an uneasy atmosphere from the first moment on. The good thing is that the whole story is solved at the end of the third season and is thus told to the end. Dark is an excellent series as it is, please NO sequel!
