Star Trek: Starfleet Academy0
Jan 17, 2026
Even for Alex Kurtzman, this is a new low. There is now absolutely nothing left of Star Trek: the language and values have been thrown overboard and sci-fi has been replaced by fantasy. Scenes and dialogues that were probably meant to be funny are just embarrassing. 90210 in space is not a series concept that fits Star Trek. It is so amateurishly executed that it will appeal to neither old nor new viewers. The art of telling entertaining and relevant stories is completely unknown to the producers and writers. This development began with Discovery and now comes to a conclusion with Starfleet Academy. As a franchise, Star Trek has been completely remodeled and is now at an end. Alex Kurtzman should finally be removed from the command chair, and the series should be removed from the Paramount+ catalog. The money for completing the second season can be saved. The day will come when Paramount will have to explain to fans why it stood idly by and watched Kurtzman's shenanigans for so long. RIP, Star Trek!

The Book Of Boba Fett5
Mar 13, 2023
The sad truth is: the best episode of the show was the one where Boba doesn’t make any appearances. The storytelling is extremely slow, in the first couple of episodes not very much is happening. Instead of giving the character of Boba Fett a show in its own right, the show mostly serves to set up the third season of The Mandalorian. I like Mando a lot, but his story should be told in his own show. I guess, Boba Fett was mainly produced to provide content for Disney+ and to take the links between the Star Wars shows to the extreme - but that strategy will probably come to an end anyway. To sum up: Giving Boba a real show with a real story could have been interesting, but using him just as a stirrup keeper seems kind of wasted.

Obi-Wan Kenobi1
Jun 24, 2022
Rescuing a kidnapped child who was only kidnapped in the first place because of sloppy security. That's the plot Disney sends us on for the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series. True, it has everything that belongs to Star Wars: lightsabers, the Force, Jedi, Darth Vader and the sands of Tatooine. But a real "Star Wars feeling" still doesn't come up. The series lacks the right music and size in its production - everything is as small as possible. Kenobi is a broken hero when we see him again in the first episode. The old white man has resigned, and only in the course of the plot does he regain his strength. The producers don't take the canon too seriously: Luke and Kenobi already meet here and the flashbacks between Anakin and Kenobi are supposed to give more depth to the conflict between the two characters, but they seem rather ridiculous. We all know how it ends between Obi and Darth Vader and who defeats Darth Vader in the end, why try to build suspense here where there is none? Hayden Christensen is too old as a young Anakin and Ewan McGregor is too young as Kenobi, considering he's the age of Sir Alec Guinness in Episode IV... there's a lot wrong with that. In general, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but Vivien Lyra Blair as Leia outplays everyone. The series seems as if the only intention was to attract more subscribers to Disney+ with the big name "Obi-Wan Kenobi". With the thin plot, the desperate attempt to fit into the big story arcs, and the struggling actors, success is doubtful. Obi is one of the great characters in the Star Wars universe, and he deserves a better series with a more innovative plot. "The Clone Wars" has told so many good stories around Obi - that's the benchmark. And the new series fails completely.

Just completed a rewatch of the entire show. Wow, B5 is one of the finest pieces of TV ever produced and easily one of my 2 favorite sci-fi shows ever. Of course, the CGI are out of date and the sets look a bit cheap - but this is all more than compensated by storytelling, writing and dialogues. It's hard to find anything that rivals the quality and level of B5 in these aspects. I enjoyed watching all episodes from all 5 seasons, and I have the feeling that his was time well spent, something I cannot say with regard to other current sci-fi shows that have more budget. B5 proves that you do not need the biggest budget, you need good stories and good actors, and B5 has plenty of both. This is still a solid 10 for me.

Star Trek: Picard: Season 20
May 7, 2022
Sorry, what was the storyline across the 10 episodes? Why did any of this happen or why did it matter? Did it matter at all? The show has been and will always be an abomination and has nothing to do with Star Trek. The words in the title are just a mislabeled product. The writers have no talent at all, in the end it seems, it was just a cheap way of humiliating and destroying more beloved TNG characters. Oh maman I will miss you :)

If AppleTV+ wanted to attract more paying customers for its offer, they failed in my opinion... sure, Isaac Asimov is a big name and his work a science fiction milestone, but that alone is not enough. I haven't read the books, so I can only say: seen purely as a TV series, "Foundation" is not convincing. Poor characterization and told too slowly and the change between the different time levels is often not transparent enough for the viewer. In addition, the story has no clear focus and as a viewer you feel that you are only getting " snippets" of something much larger. Jumps in storytelling and the feeling of gaps are the inevitable consequence of this. Peter Jackson did a better job with LOTR of condensing a complex and detailed story. The most interesting part is the scenes surrounding the 3 Empire clones. "We are Empire... history bends to us" gets to the heart of the dynasty's self-image and why it is doomed to perish. However, this and the purely visual values, which are quite impressive without discussion, are not enough to make "Foundation" the streaming event that Asimov's great name actually deserves... and that AppleTV+ would most likely desperately need.

Invasion (2021)0
Nov 15, 2021
Watched 2 episodes and decided not to watch any more. Boring storytelling and very poor characterization, no one is interesting or relevant enough for me as a viewer to want to continue watching. Too bad about Sam Neil, whose name was probably only used to promote the first episode. But even his role is without meaning or significance. Too bad, because good sci-fi series are rare. The storytelling of Invasion fits well into the AppleTV+ scheme: slow, boring, and no relevant characters that viewers can relate to.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch8
Aug 23, 2021
The series manages to introduce completely new characters within a short period of time, whose adventures you like to follow as a viewer, especially the young Omega. And it fits very well into the existing Star Wars narrative and manages to incorporate familiar characters and events. Dave Filoni really nails it and Dee Bradley Baker as the voice actor really has his work cut out for him and manages to give the various troopers their own personalities. Conclusion: Another Star Wars series worth watching!

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 30
Jan 18, 2021
They did it again! I keep it brief, anything else would be a waste of time: terrible storytelling, no likable characters, the explanation for the “burn” is as stupid as it gets… I could go one for hours I guess. “Wokeness” and diversity are over-the-top and in a completely un-Startrek like manner, but that also is nothing new. Illogical behavior and refusal to obey orders are in the end rewarded with a promotion to the rank of Captain - Starfleet is in worse shape than I dared to think. To sum up: Kurtzman-Trek at its best, unwatchable and a disgrace to the franchise. The potential of stories presented by traveling hundreds of years into the future is wasted or not even recognized by the writers, instead we get more stupid s*** of the same.

Dark9
Sep 28, 2020
Wow, what a roller coaster ride over 3 seasons! Dark is probably the most untypical German series I have ever seen. A mercilessly continuous story over all seasons and with every season it gets even more complex. A compliment to the producers and writers who managed to tell a very complex story without going into logic holes and plot holes. Dark is really well told throughout, nice to see that this art still exists today. Most actors do a good job and the choice of locations is great. Dark spreads an uneasy atmosphere from the first moment on. The good thing is that the whole story is solved at the end of the third season and is thus told to the end. Dark is an excellent series as it is, please NO sequel!

Lucifer10
Jun 25, 2020
I started watching Lucifer when the show had completed its fourth season and I am looking forward to the next. Celestial beings on earth - well I thought Sam and Dean where the ones to pull that of best, but Lucifer proved me wrong. The two shows have a different take on the topic and I like them both. Tom Ellis as Lucifer plays his character rather charismatic, and Tom Welling in the third season offers a refreshingly different routine than the superhero we all know. For a certain time, some scenes where filmed in Vancouver which did not fit well with L.A. being the setting of the stories. The show is full of strong female characters both earthly and celestial, but it never goes “woke” because of that. In these difficult times, this makes the show even more watchable.

Upload: Season 19
Jun 25, 2020
The show offers an interesting take on afterlife: the cloud that already today offers access to a lot of services and stores or processes more and more data, has become the future heaven or hell. Technologically speaking, everything shown in the episodes is science-fiction, but it connects very well to our present day with things like VR, cloud computing and self driving cars. This makes the story believable and attractive at the same time. The actors all do a good job and the location is very chosen. I am really looking forward to the second season… but one thing I know for sure: I don’t want to be uploaded.

Space Force: Season 10
Jun 8, 2020
To be honest, I only watched the first episode and had absolutely no reason to continue watching, it was hard enough to get through the first episode. It’s supposed to be funny I guess, but this is not my kind of humour. I never watched The Office, so cannot tell whether that show was funnier than this. All actors, except for John Malkovich, do a rather lame job on this show. If it is supposed to make fun of Trump’s idea of a “space force”, it fails. The reality coming out of the White House is so sad and full of absurdities - and the show is not funny enough to be a parody of some sort, nor is it a good enough drama to tell a decent story with characters that fell real. What interested me the most was to find out which university campus they had used for the location shooting. A Google search provided the answer quickly. But beyond that I have no further interest in this show.

Star Trek: Picard0
Feb 11, 2020
Since the show is produced by the same people that brought STD on us, it is no surprise that this does not feel like Star Trek on may levels. Strip it of the characters named Picard and Data and get rid of the Starfleet insignia and the Bat'leth on the wall - and it is nothing more than a simple story of a bitter old man with a once better life, a standard textbook plot for first year's screenwriter’s school. But what disappoints even more is the fact that the first episode does not encourage you to want more, the writers did not manage that the viewers start to care about the characters and the events and it simple does not tell you why it is relevant and worth to watch. This is bad writing, period. On top of that, the show kind of looks cheap, no big bang to open with, the locations shots do not convey the look of the 24th century at all. The inside of the borg cube seems to be a rip-off from an old STD set. If this first episode marks the level of quality the procedures can come of with, I rather have an Earl Grey - the real one, not the decaf stuff Jean-Luc drinks now. The 1 point I give is for Dinero who does a hell of a job playing Number One.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine8
Jan 12, 2020
I just completed a re-watch and Deep Space Nine is still worth seeing. In fact, from all the Star Trek shows, it is my favorite and it hasn’t aged as much as the other shows. The storylines that span several seasons are extremely well written and the cast of actors, especially in the recurring roles, is very good. I just wish there would be a 4K remastering soon.

Pennyworth: Season 18
Jan 5, 2020
Wow, it’s a prequel and the producers actually manage to not screw up everything that has already been established. Well it is certainly a long way from the young ex-soldier Alfred to the distinguished butler we all love when he works for Bruce in Gotham. But the series is strong enough to tell a story of its own, with several factions within the UK that battle for political leadership. Alfie is caught up in the middle of it. The style of the show is exquisite, in some scenes, strange things just happen or walk by the camera without any explanation given. The story is set in the 1960’s in London and the filming locations look really great. The characters, the actors (and the dialects they speak) also make the show worthwhile. I’am looking forward to getting to know this Alfred Pennyworth better.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Season 18

I watched the first season within a couple of days. A great mixture of action and thrill. The show has good actors and the location shooting adds to the realism. The storyline offers a few real surprises.

The Hot Zone: Season 17
Jul 7, 2019
The series requires a lot of patience and steadiness from the viewer, as it is told extremely slowly. It tells the story of the first outbreak of Ebola on US soil in 1989, which was only fatal for monkeys. Those who wait for the great catastrophe will be disappointed. It does not take place, or the actual disaster is how badly authorities seemed to be prepared for such a case at that time. Dramaturgical highlights are only to be found in the fifth and sixth episodes and that is simply too little for today's standards. If you wouldn't have the constant threat of the Ebola virus in the back of your mind, the first episodes wouldn't be enough to really tie you to the screen. The series is based on true events and therefore has a tough time next to the well-known doomsday movies. Therefore, you have to look for its qualities somewhere else: Concerning the actors there is a reunion with many well-known actors and that's surely one of the advantages. The flashbacks to Africa, where the virus first appeared, are also convincing, not only because of the interplay between Liam Cunningham and James D'Arcy, but also because they show how difficult it is to master a virus that is neither interested in customs nor science when different cultures and worldviews meet.

Chernobyl: Season 110
Jun 8, 2019
Gripping, disturbing, extremely well done... the show maintains a good balance between the human drama and the retelling of the events of the disaster. It's almost unimaginable with how much naivety people reacted to the explosion at the beginning. But the show also manages to portray the Soviet system of lies, fear and deliberately leaving the people in the dark as one of the main culprits. The production design and the choice of locations creates an extremely authentic look of the time. The series offers a glimpse into the abyss of hell and won't let you go until you've seen all the episodes.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 20
Feb 25, 2019
There is just no end to this... the show takes a turn for the worst in its second season. The endless search for Spock, that is interrupted by pointless problems week after week and outlandish violations of everything Star Trek used to stand for. I finally came to my personal conclusion not to watch this anymore, I have better things to do than watching this complete waste of time.

Even in the fourth season, Bosch as lost nothing of its attractiveness as a TV show. I love how Titus Welliver portraits the charakter and the rest of the cast is also superb. There are a lot of show filmed in LA, but Bosch captures the atmosphere of the city like no other show currently on TV.

Apr 15, 2018
It was the excellent production design that won me over... the ship, the vehicles, the uniforms all look really good. The robot is extremly good looking as well. In terms of storytelling and character development, there is still room for improvement. I binged the first 8 episodes within 2 days, the rest follows today...

The Grand Tour: Season 110
Feb 8, 2018
I absolutely love the show. The bickering between Clarkson, May and Hammond is nothing but entertaining. The best one so far was the film about the Jags: obviously, they lack tremendously in quality, but the three managed to ignore this with such a persistence... that was really great. I know, it is a scripted show, they made even fun about this, but it is highly entertaining and it delivers spectacular shots of both cars and scenery. I love it in the English original and the political incorrectness is nothing but refreshing.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 10
Nov 15, 2017
This is not what I expect from a show carrying the words Star Trek in its name. Everything that has been established in over 50 years is disregarded and ignored by producers and writers. The plots of the individual episodes are full of holes, races like Klingons and Vulcans have been rewritten or undergone a complete reboot. All the core Star Trek values are not present in this show – and how shall all this turn into the Starfleet and the Federation we know from the adventures of Captain Kirk only nine years later? This is by no way a prequel (which is already bad enough), this is a lame sci-fi show that is abusing the words Star Trek in its title. If it wasn’t for those two words, the show would never have gotten this kind of attention and would have probably already been cancelled. This doesn’t bring Star Trek into the 21century, where TV shows are darker and it is less easy to tell heroes and villains apart. This also not about confronting the Star Trek values like respect for other lifeforms and peaceful coexistence with an ugly reality – no, with this new show, Star Trek itself has become that ugly reality.
