[Producers Josh Pate and Cynthia Cidre] keep Blood & Oil living large without quite stumbling over the top. They get a lot of help from their skilled cast, particularly Crawford, who has grown some grit since his pretty-boy heir in Gossip Girl. And Johnson gives his best performance in years.

The pleasantly fresh setting is the North Dakota oil boom, but the tone is very "Dallas," and the storytelling is as melodramatic as the show's title.

I have found BLOOD AND OIL TO BE THE "BEST" TELEVISION PROGRAM THIS SEASON. It is one of the few times my husband (who is both macho and brains) will ask me to record his football game so he can watch THIS SHOW and return to his game later. Let's keep this show on the because it has GRIT & GUTS FOR THE MEN and keeps it at the top of the list for the ladies. Men are loving this show so put it on a time where they don't have to choose between this show and sports. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD FOOTBALL GROUP SAYS MOVE BLOOD & OIL TO TUESDAY NIGHTS SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE.

Hap and Carla are certainly a great-looking couple, standing in the shadow of the North Dakota Rockies. What they're not is a heightened version of Blake and Alexis Colby Carrington, the sort of heights I was really hoping for here.

The first hour spends so much time setting things up it may not have been indicative of what's to come. But the drama needs to ramp up quickly if this is going to have any chance at all.

It too often feels like a variation on “Dallas,” right down to an obsession with profits from oil. Johnson is fun but Crawford is flat and dull, too unengaging to really be a lead on a show like this one.

Dreadfully conceived and horribly acted.

The casting was great, the acting was solid, and the story line was compelling. The scenery was gorgeous, too, which never hurts, and the realistic backdrop & anything-can-happen frontier feeling presented by the set really drew me in. But above all else, the win is crystallized by the fact that I cannot wait to see the next episode. 6.4 million viewers are a great start; we'll see how many stick around for the second episode. Honestly, the premiere was every bit as good as CBS' new hit Limitless. Some wannabe critics have nothing real to say, just inane criticism without substance, but I couldn't disagree more with their snotty polemics. Personally, I find this to be must-see TV; it is far more entertaining & compelling that The Big Bang Theory, NCIS, CSI, or 'reality TV.'

This show was set up to fail from the time it was put on the air. Sunday is not a good day to start a new show during football season. This show should have debuted on either Monday or Tuesday, so that would have given it some time to grab a viewer's attention. I thought in the beginning it was not going to be any good but then it started to get interesting and blam! it was canceled. I hope Hulu or even Netflix or even Amazon picks this up and continues as I see good things for this show if it can be saved.

First off Jewels is absolutely beautiful! The plot is somewhat interesting and the acting is above average. The biggest bother to me is that there is no mountains in Western North Dakota where this is supposed to be set. The movie is about being on the Bakken yet they filmed the whole thing in Colorado. Would have been better and much more realistic had they actually filmed in North Dakota.

ABC is in the Prime Time soap business, but this is stretching it a bit. There was nothing compelling about the pilot, which felt like it telegraphed every move. Worse yet, why would we care about these characters? That's a problem.

The characters, young man/young woman, are attractive (naturally). Well, maybe just too attractive. Each situation they get into is telegraphed way ahead of time (so you don't have to worry about missing anything) and it's almost as if things work themselves out sort of magically for this wonderful couple. But then, that's what you were rooting for, wasn't it?
