A brilliant satire of emotional politics.

You can feel the world closing in, which, I would venture, is exactly how Fassbinder wanted you to feel.

It's good to see a gay relationship treated no differently than a heterosexual one would be.
75
The film does not offer an optimistic view of relationships.
75
Very French and at times threatens to dissolve into a steamy sex farce.
60
Mild as satire and completely unconvincing as tragicomedy.
50
The static, claustrophobic movie is very much a filmed play.

François Ozon's filmography is one of the most controversial and acclaimed European filmographies. Ozon has a singular vision about relationships, sexuality and social community. In "Water Drops on Burning Rocks" Ozon made real a unpublished play by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Fassbinder was one of the best European directors of 20th century and this movie is a tale about cruelty and domination that could be in a relationship. I like that characters are bisexual. The film goes beyond of sexual orientation and to show the power of domination. An ironic critique of dominant sexism still alive in nowadays.

Water drops on burning rocks
This movie takes place in an apartment and people create actions by entering the apartments. The film is based on a play and although it is an interpretation of it, it remains faithful to the structure of a 4-part play and the film is divided into four acts. The film is a commentary film about powerism.
