Uncharted

Uncharted isn’t a classic, but for an action movie coming out in the doldrums of February, it’s practically Citizen Kane.

Uncharted is a lively but thinly scripted and overlong mad-dash caper movie, propelled by actors you wish, after a while, had more interesting things to say and do.

Part intellectual-property barrel-scraping, part pumped-up star vehicle and part fumbling bid for Sony to cross media-revenue streams, Uncharted isn’t the worst attempt to bring a beloved video game to the screen — just the latest bit of evidence that these things are really a zero-sum game.

The buddy movie balance of “Uncharted” never clicks. Wahlberg, who was once attached to play Holland’s part, plays Sully like Nathan’s roguish, less tech-savvy elder. But they lack the needed chemistry and the script, by Rafe Lee Judkins, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, doesn’t give them enough comic material to do much with.

Fleischer channels the tenor of the influences his film wears on its sleeve: the manipulative music demanding awe, the lighthearted spirit of the action, the smirking star-power needed to sell quippy banter. But his tonal fidelity cannot entirely cover the seams of this sloppily assembled script.

There’s a lot, in fact, to Uncharted that feels haphazard or under-considered.

At least give Sony credit for recycling. That is the best that can be said for its nitwit treasure-hunt movie Uncharted, an amalgam of clichés that were already past their sell-by date when Nicolas Cage plundered the box office in Disney’s “National Treasure” series.

This isn't a bad adaptation of the games. It's somewhat accurate to the story of the franchise, and resembles the charm of the games in film-style. 3/5 stars.

A boring adventure movie is like an unfunny comedy: a waste of time. Mark Wahlberg has zero interest in the film and absolutely no chemistry with the rest of the cast. They, in turn, struggle with an abysmal script, resulting in trivial, cringe-worthy dialogue. At times, it seems as though the actors weren't even on set at the same time. While the set pieces themselves aren't bad, they were better in the games, and the VFX are barely tolerable. Ramin Djawadi’s score doesn't save the day either, and the two post-credits scenes aren't worth the trouble. "Uncharted" might be okay for kids, but why not just show them good movies like the Indiana Jones trilogy instead?

Ive honestly never played the games, nor posses any knowledge of what theyre all about. The film is mostly a lazy rehash. Punctuated by moments of painfully silly choices. But there are some interesting moments and well executed action which elevate it to an extent. Based on past experiences i would probably disliked it more had i been a fan of the game.
