Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween

You’re going to Madea’s house to laugh, forget your troubles and perhaps get a good Christian message. To Perry’s credit, he does a far better job of folding that message into the film than usual.

Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween would be tone deaf, lacking in plot, and almost entirely humorless in any year. That is happens to arrive in theaters amid a cascade of sexual assault survivors sharing their stories about sexual assault doesn’t help its case.

A sequel so wholly anodyne that it doesn’t even deserve its exclamation point.

The laughs are few and far between.

Sometimes it's stupid-funny, but mostly it's just plain stupid. And sloppy.

This movie finds Mr. Perry, never the most deft at the technical aspect of filmmaking, drastically off whatever his best game is.

While its predecessor at least pleased his fans, writer-director-star Perry’s latest offers few laughs and embarrassing post-production work.

It's a good movie. I thought it was a movie made in a Scary Movie style. Although all events are horror-themed, the movie made people laugh by showing funny and stupid events that did not scare people at all. I think people will like this movie.

It's one of Perry's weaker efforts, but still provides the same kind of entertainment that has kept him going for quite some time now. The only change Perry has ever made to this series was to move away from the more heavy hitting drama in favor of lighthearted messages and an increased emphasis on the humor. While that has made a world of difference in making these more enjoyable, it's no secret that there are still issues that will probably never get fixed. Perhaps the most notable is how cheap these movies look. The production values are not high. Visually it is on par with made for TV films. Of course the writing and comedy is only for a specific audience, but I see no issue with pandering to a specific audience. Where Boo 2! stumbles is unsurprisingly in it's storytelling. Everyone who isn't Madea and her fellow old cronies are irritating as all get out. These scenes where that focus on the younger generation of her family flat out ****. Unfortunately in this movie it feels like the majority of the attention goes to them. When the attention is on the title character the movie can be quite funny. Although the first Boo! had the funnier material. Sometimes the jokes fall flat thanks to an overreliance on raunchy dialog. It's pretty lazy in a lot of areas. Tyler Perry is just cashing in on his following at this point with no desire to put that much effort into Madea's exploits anymore. I personally can't blame him even if I personally would do things differently. No, the real issue with Boo 2! is that it's just not as funny as it could have been and the recycled aspects of the previous Boo! are very noticeable. The writing is predictable as all get out. Yet, there are still enough humorous moments to make it worth a watch for the fans. Just don't expect this one to be your new favorite Madea movie.

Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween is stupider and worse than the first film. Yet again, this film is definitely not funny and is complete torture.

Remember when there was just one of these Halloween flicks featuring Madea from, you know, last year? Only this time, Tyler Perry manages to make one more comeback with a film so unbearable you can't even imagine why they would still continue this series. Let's hope one day, we'll find a way to end what must be bought to an end.
