The Monster Squad

Fred Dekker’s 1987 horror comedy is, like totally, the ultimate ’80s movie. An agreeably goofy, Little Rascals-meets-The Goonies time passer, the movie is proudly anti-CGI.

The Monster Squad is such fun, it makes you wish you were a kid again.

Sharper than a stake in it's genre references, The Monster Squad appeals to cinephile as well as teen sensibilities.

More of a clever comic parody than a jokey pastiche, this lively kiddies' horror pic delivers frights and laughs which are rooted in a sure and sympathetic grasp of Monster Movie mythology.

Dekker's notion of pouring comedy and horror into the cinematic Cuisinart and leaning on the starter switch doesn't work here. [14 Aug 1987, p.D1]

A silly attempt to crossbreed an Our Gang comedy with a classic horror film, which usually means that both genres have reached the end of the line.

Crass but imponderable, bizarrely mixing glowingly back-lit sentimentality with stomach-churning violence and juvenile sex jokes.

Pretty good movie, loved the nod to the 1931 frankenstein, story was good although seemed a bit rushed at times to fit that very short 80 minute run time. Overall very fun film that I would recommend checking out.

An inoperative hybrid, which despite being completely based on horror, its focus is more interested in satisfying the public in a much more cheesy and comedic way, which was quite disappointing to tell the truth.
