San Francisco Chronicle
The movie keeps a snappy pace and the suspense pot boiling. The snippy interplay between the two cops adds enjoyable twists of comic chemistry. Constant rain and slick streets, though a cliche, set a moody tone. [07 Oct 1996, p.D2]

The Glimmer Man starts out like Seven, but pretty soon it dwindles into nothing. [09 Oct 1996, p.5D]

The New York Times
Short on suspense, routine in its action and monotonous in its performances.

Empire
As the plot gets even worse than that of a bad serial killer movie, not even the OK fight scene at the end can redeem it.

Chicago Tribune
It's strictly rental material. [06 Oct 1996, p.11]

USA Today
The Glimmer Man is strictly a bummer, man. [07 Oct 1996, p.3D]

Austin Chronicle
The Glimmer Man is simply a spectacular belly-flop of an action movie -- neither good enough nor bad enough to be anything but instantly forgettable, though not necessarily painless.

The Glimmer Man is a 1996 action film with comedy mixed in to the ingredients but it's more of a serious, violent film than anything else.... The comedy aspects being the humour is actually quite funny I've to admit and I like it very much, even killing the badguys with a credit card scene is good. . Steven Seagal stars as Lt. Jack Cole and is joined by actor Keenen Ivory Wayans in this violent, explosive and entertaining movie. It's entertaining but here's the problem, Steven Seagal's character is the same in every movie but he just has a different name and all his films are similar or the same and just a different movie title to it and the storylines are similar and so on.... Another problem is The Glimmer Man has many unlikeable characters in it and laughable, horrible villains and annoying people plus the fact Steven Seagal can't bring anything new to the action genre besides the same type of fighting and other nonsense so what's he trying to prove, he can fight? Nobody cares and it's not that impressive anyway you idiot. The Glimmer Man is part testament to why Steven Seagal has won so many worst actor awards because he sure is a crap actor. Keenen Ivory Wayans was hilarious and even his acting was better, Seagal was boring at times and wooden and has no conviction in his performance as an actor. Some of the action scenes were bad but some good so The Glimmer Man is full of explosions and violence and Seagal's fighting techniques lol. However with unlikeable and laughable characters and not the best acting and horrible storyline the Glimmer Man kind of ****.
