Suspiria truly is one of the absolute classics of the horror genre and anyone who considers themselves to be true students of the cinema owe it to themselves to experience it for themselves, especially if they get a chance to see it on the big screen where it belong.

La historia de una academia de baile y los siniestros misterios que la envuelven es uno de los ejemplos de cómo el cine italiano se abrió paso en el género de terror, con voz propia y un score musical que hace que la sangre se congele. Y no van a creer que cantante español está en el reparto.

Horror film that can be called a masterpiece of the genre. The tension is always very high, the rhythms are tight and the music is wonderful. The colors of the settings are spot on and the single colors of the lights make the settings surreal. The only flaw is that like many other horror films it has obvious logic problems but the latter take a back seat in front of the merits of this film.

As visceral and invigorating as classics like “Deep Red” or “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” might be, they aren’t a patch on 1977’s Suspiria.

Time Out
With his sharp eye for the bizarre and for vulgar over-decoration, it's always fascinating to watch; the thrills and spills are so classy and fast that the movie becomes in effect what horror movies seemed like when you were too young to get in to see them. Don't think, just panic.

The movie is a collection of ghoulish creative impulses (some of them gorily sadistic, as when a character is trapped in a room of barbed wire) rather than a coherent story.

Mr. Argento's methods make potentially stomach-turning material more interesting than it ought to be. Shooting on bold, very fake-looking sets, he uses bright primary colors and stark lines to create a campy, surreal atmosphere, and his distorted camera angles and crazy lighting turn out to be much more memorable than the carnage.

A ridiculously self-indulgent spree of satanic bogeymannerisms entitled Suspiria, virtually self-destructs in the opening sequence. Eager to menace the audience from every sensory direction, Argento doesn't so much create and sustain an illusion of terror as invite you to marvel at his garish ingenuity, at the spectacle of a filmmaker who can't resist overstylizing and upstaging his material.

Suspiria is an amazing arthouse film by Dario Argento that though is cheesy at times works because of its bold colour scheme, fantastic punk soundtrack and beautiful filmmaking.

There is not denying the fact that this movie is beautifully artistic and visually stimulating. Especially for a movie from 1977. This has some pretty solid slasher vibes, and is just a fun, good romp of a horror movie. However, I watched this film AFTER the 2018 Suspiria, which is more of a folk/psychological horror, and I absolutely fell in love with that movie. So, for me, this film didn't connect with me as much.

Not as insane as I would of preferred for a giallo. Has the expected incredible score and vibes.

Suspiria is probably the most famous movie Dario Argento has made. If you are a New or Young Horror fan the odds are Suspiria would most likely show up on your radar first. Unfortunately when that is the case...sometimes a film can suffer from the fan communities over hyping of that film. Before I saw Suspiria for the first time I had heard and read all kinds of praise for it. When I did watch the film for the first time I was slightly disappointed. I had already seen Deep Red and Opera and feel those films are Argento's Best. Suspiria isn't a bad movie. It's just not as impactful as I had always heard it to be. The Visuals and Music Score are terrific. The story however I found a bit generic and slightly boring in spots. Still worth a watch. Maybe if you see it without the great expectations I had it will work better.

While the film is well directed, I was not a fan of the story at all. I thought that it was too fast-paced and we didn't really get a chance to explore anything. It let me very unsatisfied in that regards.
