It’s a hysterical screwball fantasia that openly steals from Lubitsch, Hawks, Capra and Sturges and wants to be caught with its fingers in the till. The result is a highly-sexed Jenga-pile of silliness, to which Bogdanovich can’t resist adding block after teetering block.

Too many times the characters in this movie sprint across the line separating quirky charm from know-somethingish affectation, and then stay on the wrong side of it.

There are jokes that land, and every time Kathryn Hahn steps on screen the film threatens to tilt on its axis and point toward a truer north.

It’s an elaborate and artificial concoction, without any discernible ambition behind it.

She’s Funny That Way is posted as a love letter to the classic screwball comedies of Hollywood’s golden age, but delivers ersatz Woody Allen instead; it’s like "Bullets Over Broadway" minus the mob plot and 90 percent of the charm.

If anybody should know how to make a good Lubitsch farce, it’s Bogdanovich. Luckily, he already has: You should just watch his classic What’s Up, Doc? instead.

Peter Bogdanovich made a great screwball comedy. This isn't it.

This movie is bonkers, zany, unbelievable and yet a pleasure. It feels like a callback to classic, kook-filled Hollywood and while yes, there is a Woody Allen-vibe, it was just a pleasure to watch. At times, the film had this element of a screwball, Broadway play and even with a barrage of certain, ridiculous clichés ('the prostitute with a heart of gold' being one of them along with the unfaithful theatre director), the performances and the script seemed to rise above it all. Some critics have called it forgettable and sure, if you focus on the typical tropes, there is a kind of 'been there, done that' aura to the overall piece. What I loved was the sincerity to this film. Despite everything being over-the-top and too-too-coincidental, I laughed and smiled the whole way through. The story of a rise-to-fame-reflective actress telling her fairy tale to a jaded journalist frames the main narrative. On the one hand, you listen to her with a gullible eagerness, eating up her every word, swept into her world as the movie veers between her maudlin retelling and the events themselves. On the other hand you feel like you are becoming wiser to the charms. Imogen Poots brings that doe-eyed whimsy to her character and mixed in with her tender-raw New Yawk accent, you are hook-line-and-sinker along for the journey even though she is a bit unreliable in her narrative and superficially sentimental depending on how it favours her. She flits from guy to guy in the story and the guys themselves are no better than her whether it be Owen Wilson's overly-generous 'John' or the playwright's (Will Forte) meek but do-good eagerness, no one is innocent here. The other characters and nuances of the script are too webbed to even explain so I just say, hey, plonk down and give them one a go. I absolutely loved the supporting characters from Anniston's jaded therapist to Ifans' aged English actor to Hahn's revengeful wife. The story and film may not be to be everybody's like but for those that like a whirlwind comedy, this is it. I will definitely return to this one.

quite enjoyable laid back laugh it out kind of movie. i thought it was a woody allen movie and the judge is doing an allen impersonation. the script is so woody allen, all the intonation and mishmash. But it was not. can't imagine owen acting exactly the same way he did here as in 'midnight in paris'. very uncanny. jennifer aniston was a breath of fresh air, acting all **** instead of her usual nice quirky girl. i loved the premise of transporting real life onto the play and using the play to play out the real life. the main actress was actually quite funny.

If someone had unknowingly told me that She's Funny That Way was a Woody Allen movie, I would totally believe it, this romantic farce is enthusiastic but low on effervescence, its main charm lies in its cast full of comedians. It's enjoyable but also very forgettable.

2014 romantic comedy movie. It is not clear who is with whom. A whole bunch of relationships. In my opinion, the judge detail was extremely unnecessary. The movie isn't exactly a comedy. Most of the characters are repulsive. Relationships are tiring. It's a mix of fame for the players. But those celebrities were only able to produce a snack movie. The end is another mystery. And if that Tarantino didn't show himself. What an exaggeration man. Finally, seeing Cybill Shepherd, who admired many people for a while, made me sad and happy. There is no nudity in the movie, but there are sexually explicit scenes.
