She Rides Shotgun sits as a perfect example of every filmmaking ingredient coming together beautifully, balanced in a way that would make Thanos take pause, and as much a showcase for the talent onscreen as for those working to fuse this film’s take on the world that is the neo-western. There’s plenty here to keep eyeballs glued, and every scene gets better.

It showcases two astonishing performances: one from the always reliable Taron Egerton as the hardened, haunted ex-con Nate McClusky and another from newcomer Ana Sophia Heger as his young daughter, Polly, in whose queasy glances the drama finds its sorrow and its depth.

Intense and pretty grim from start to finish, but I didn't see that as a negative given the subject matter. Excellent performances across the board and the music and cinematography were exceptional. The final 15 minutes was the only part of the film that didn't ring true and had a few of the characters making stupid decisions in order to lead the film to where they wanted the story to go. Overall though, a very good film, which surprised me given how little buzz it recieved on release.

She Rides Shotgun takes its time to settle in, but when it hits, it really hits. It feels like a modern western mixed with a road movie and a deeply human drama. There are no flashy twists or forced spectacle here. This is a film about people, old wounds, and the fragile, powerful bond that forms when a father has to protect his daughter even though he doesn’t fully know how.Taron Egerton is excellent. At times he hints at a future action hero, but what truly works are the quieter moments, when fear, clumsiness, and guilt show through. His character is far from perfect, and that’s exactly why it works. He learns on the run, makes mistakes, flees… and still tries to do the right **** real revelation, though, is Ana Sophia Heger. Her performance is remarkable. She never overplays a scene or reaches for easy emotion. A look, a pause, a silence — that’s where she shines. It’s an incredibly difficult role for someone so young, and she carries it with astonishing **** direction is measured and confident. Violence appears only when necessary and never overstays its welcome. The emotional weight comes from restraint, not manipulation. Yes, it can make you cry — it certainly did for me — but those tears come from something **** may follow a familiar structure, but the honesty of its emotions makes that feel irrelevant. A tough, tender, deeply human film that lingers well after it ends.

There’s a confidence to She Rides Shotgun that many other movies can’t match, as though the filmmakers always knew exactly where to put their camera and how long to let it roll.

Harper’s source material is a hard-boiled tour de force, and while Rowland’s adaptation adjusts and simplifies the novel on which it’s based, it successfully bottles the energy and unleashes it onscreen.

She Rides Shotgun packs a punch — or, to use one of Nate's lessons for Polly, hits you like a baseball bat to the back of the head. The subplot with the local gang may be forgettable, but the father-daughter relationship will stick with you for a long time.

The film takes a while to find its sea legs and peters out a bit in its big finish sequence, but sticks the landing in the final scene. The whole thing is a little uneven, but it avoids sentimentality, perhaps the biggest trap in material involving a child.

Nick Rowland’s film doesn’t seem to have faith in the story the novel tells.

"She Rides Shotgun" is a New Mexico-set crime drama that makes Breaking Bad look like family entertainment. On the other hand, it’s an ultimately touching portrait of the growing bond between a criminal father and the young daughter he’s barely gotten a chance to know.

A slightly above average film with some ok acting, but some shaky direction, editing and a storyline with quite a few holes in it! The whole film has been done better before, although I liked how it was a mystery, at least for the first half an hour. It quickly lost its edge and ended up in a silly shootout. Whilst it was ok, I doubt I’d watch it again in a hurry!

Amazing soundtrack; it's gritty and raw. The story isn't revolutionary or doesn't throw in any twists that audiences haven't seen before, but it's still good. The acting performances are extremely good in parts, but both Egerton and Heger are guilty of overacting in parts.

The story line makes zero sense... you're air dropped into crazy land, a ride just for the violence of it. Then there is the child actor exposed to as it's family movie!? This is why America is doomed and deserves all the murder and mayhem on all levels in its society.

It feels like ages since I last saw American actors in a real car and real landscapes. Unfortunately, a lot of things are wrong. The music, but also the dramaturgy, the dialogue, and the characters' behavior are irritating and hardly believable. Not recommended.
