Hawco and Gaitán are gifted enough actors to give a dialogue-heavy movie some layers and dynamism; and Beltrán and Pitts throw some intense challenges at their heroes, including bad weather, a poisonous snake and a terrifying corpse.

Quicksand swings and misses as the next buzzy nature-born thriller. Beltrán can never decide if he’s making an upscale SYFY B-movie or an overserious examination of marriages so stale that self-destruction seems the only answer.

The Good
Despite the low budget, everything looks and feels real and believable. I liked both the performances of Allan Hawco and Carolina Gaitan, and there is a true feeling of peril when they ultimately end up trapped. The film is a beautiful 80 minutes long, which for a horror/thriller is about the perfect length. The Bad
Some of the arguments between Sofia and Josh are very cliche. The film is called Quicksand, but it is more mud that they are trapped in. Overall
Quicksand is a decent horror/thriller film that does a fair job in both its storytelling and performances. Another decent release from the good people at Shudder, and available now at the following links. I score Quicksand a fair 7/10 Full Review at

It doesn’t help that the film takes itself with Deliverance-like seriousness, and fails to really acknowledge its absurdity.

Real quicksand may not drag its victims down, but Quicksand sinks beneath the weight of its missed opportunities.

It is a new version of 2003 Open Water. A married couple trapp in nature's deadliest booby traps. Quicksands always scared me. The movie does not over-dramatize the story. It's simple and enough.

I'm thankful every day that I'm not a hiker. Good concept but so extremely boring. Good snake stuff.
