Quarantine director John Erick Dowdle and co-writing brother Drew wisely stick close to the told-from-the-cameraman's point-of-view template of the terrific original, though they add a few fine flourishes.

It's a shame that this English-language cover of an excellent Spanish shocker will eclipse the original, at least in U.S. theaters -- but even those who despise remakes will have to admit that director John Erick Dowdle's furious retread is scary as hell.

Quarantine delivers outstanding performances that you can't caught the actors acting. The story is dark, twisted and claustrophobic in many ways. The movie is shocking and scary. Although I didn't have the chance to watch the original yet, but I am going to give it a solid 9.

As a visceral, camera-shuddery ride into foamy-mouthed zombie hell, it’s efficient enough -- but if you’ve already seen [Rec], steer clear...

Dowdle manages a few nice shocks and some neat moments of pitch-black gallows humor, but Quarantine nevertheless feels awfully familiar, and it grows less convincing with each passing moment. At its worst, it abandons realism entirely and flirts with gory kitsch.

ReelViews
It's easily the weakest entry into this ever-expanding category and is inferior to its subtitled source material. Quarantine implies "stay away" and that's not bad advice.

Oh, "Blair Witch," what hath thou wrought? It has taken less than a decade, but the concept of horror films filmed documentary-style has officially become a tiresome cliche.

Boston Globe
Like "Blair Witch," Quarantine uses the conceit of a movie-within-a-movie to give documentary immediacy to its assorted grotesqueries.

Assessing the quality of the picture is hard, it is good but it looks more like a film than digital video though and it shakes too much. I don’t think that a camera operator working in news would make this. It is shot (deliberately) too badly. Lighting is excellent as is the sound, again which isn’t believable but you have to let it go. Visual effects are simple and effective. Ok ok this is a remake of [rec] (2007) so not that original but for me this does it so much better. I like the creativity in creating a horror movie with a different vibe. It is like an intense haunted house ride with monsters jumping out all the time. It is so well done. I'm notching it down on creativity as it is almost a direct remake. This is really intense. I prefer it to the original because it is in English and has some polish. They also tweaked the little bits that weren't perfect to make this the best it can be, for example the pacing. It is scary in places but really the star is the intensity. It never lets you have a rest and bombards you with terror. This grew on me to become a ‘modern’ horror classic.

An above average film due to the tension provided by the direction. Most of the acting was decent enough, though the realism was lacking and the ending could have been improved. I’d probably watch it again, although I’d more likely seek out the original: [rec]!

Quarantine , the adaptation of the super scary movie REC , made in Spain was a movie almost full of fear, but like the ganeas were not removed before the adaptation, but better Spanish than American .

Quarantine had potential but it completely missed the mark for me. I liked the overall vibe and atmosphere, it definitely tries to create tension and chaos, but everything else fell flat. The acting was terrible, the characters felt unrealistic, and the whole idea of locking down one building while police and firefighters are trapped inside without any information just didn’t make sense. It’s hard to stay invested when the story logic is so **** ending wasn’t satisfying either, and while I understand this is a remake of another film, I still expected much more. Overall, a disappointing experience that could have been so much better.

This was a really bad movie. On top of being poorly directed, no story, no plot, it was shot in 1st person view, which was horrible. I gave a 3 rating. It had been on my list of luke-warm movies to view, but the disappointment was even greater than I bargained for. Poor lighting, poor acting and just poor movie-making all around. A far superior movie along the same lines came out 13 years earlier starring Dustin Hoffman. It was called "Outbreak". A far superior and far scarier movie.

On March 11 2008, the government sealed off an apartment complex in Los Angeles. The residents were never seen again. No details. No witnesses. No evidence. Until now.
