Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

This is a dark, dark, dark film, focused on an obsession so complete and lonely it shuts out all other human experience. You may not savor it, but you will not stop watching it, in horror and fascination.

The odd conclusion renders it somewhat oblique, but Perfume is a feast for the senses.

Perfume is sure to annoy as many moviegoers as it entertains, but at least even the naysayers would find it difficult to argue that film is nothing if not a departure from the ordinary.

The film, though admirably ambitious, is resolutely earthbound, mired in ick and slime and never more wooden than in the delirious climax.

While Tom Tykwer's lavish and lively screen adaptation of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is certainly not a stinker, there is something decidedly off about it.

Weaves a sensual spell of extraordinary delicacy, then sustains it -- up to a point.

This isn't pleasant to watch. Neither is it amusing, intellectually engaging, whimsically fascinating, coldly satirical or painfully poignant, though at any given moment in this erratic film director Tom Tykwer might be trying for one of these conflicting tones.

My favorite movie of all time!!! It's a dark masterpiece that I believe anyone has to watch it once in their lifetime!!

It is a disturbing movie! The book is a page turning and the adapatation is appropriate. The main actor '' grenouille '' came from nowhere and gave us a great performance.

Tykwer's Süskind adaptation never transcends mediocrity; the novel's plot is filmed too awkwardly. A generic score lingers over the TV-quality images, and there's never any tension or interest in the characters. Ben Wishaw, on the other hand, is great, as is Alan Rickman (when he finally shows up after 80 minutes); Dustin Hoffman, on the other hand, is completely in camp mode. All in all, a typical 'airs on network TV on a Sunday afternoon' historical/arthouse romp that doesn't dare to do anything. But I really want to read the novel now; it seems truly excellent.

Der Flm spielt im 18 Jahrhundert wo der Frauenmörder Jean-Baptiste Grenouille sein unwesen treibt. Der Charakter wird nicht gut genug ausgearbeitet. Seine Motivation die Morde durchzuführen sind nicht klar erkennbar. Er ist so bessesen das perfekte Parfum herzustellen das er sogar mordet und man sieht keine Reue. Der Anfang gefiel mir bis einschließlich die Geschichte mit Dustin Hoffman endet. Danach zieht sich der Film und es wird eher langweilig. Der Film ist eine Buchverfilmung da ich das Buch nicht gelesen habe kann ich es nicht vergleichen. Jean-Baptiste Grenouilles Charakter wird nicht klar gestellt er scheint nur schüchtern zu sein und alles für sein Ziel zu machen. Die Kostüme sind super und filmerisch ist es auch gut gemacht. Die Story finde ich wird aber immer langweiliger. Wie das mit dem Geruch eingeführt wurde fande ich super. Man kann den Film nicht riechen sich aber vorstellen wie ekelhaft manches riecht. Was ekelhaft riecht wird auch hässlich und ekelhaft dargestellt. Was widerum schön und gut riecht, wird als schön und hell dargestellt. Die letzte halbe Stunde hat den Film und einiges weiter nach unten gezogen. Ich kann nachvollziehen, was damit gemeint ist und wie der Regisseur bzw der Autor das meinte. Für mich ist es trotzdem unrealistisch und ich fande es einfach nur lächerlich. 5,5/10

Ich muß ganz ehrlich sagen, der Film ist einfach nur grausam und ekelig, ohne jeden Sinn oder Moral. Ich weiß leider nicht, was daran beeindruckend sein soll und kann den Film deshalb auch keinem empfehlen.
