Greetings from Lithuania.
"Passengers" (2016) has to be one of the best guilty pleasure movies I've ever seen. I can understand why it got so many negative reviews from critics and viewers, and you kinda have to leave your believes behind the door when you will watch this movie, because there are some "how can that be?" moments in this movie, but they are far and in between for a what beautiful, original (!) and simply great this movie is. The premise is original, and kinda fresh - and this comes from a science fiction genre fan. Acting was very good by all involved (i won't spoil how many faces). Script as well directing was very involving - at running time almost 2 hours i was engaged into this story more that i could have possibly imagined at the beginning.Overall, "Passengers" is a terrific Sci-Fi entertainment. Its not a very deep on its core (aka Interstellar), but it delivers on a most important thing - to like a movie very much do to its involvement in a story. This one truly delivers a great, great guilty pleasure.

A science fiction film that is different from the classics of its genre. The story involves very few characters but the plot is not affected, indeed the characters are described very well in their psychology and their feelings. The plot of the story does not reach any particular level but is quite usual, but still appreciable

Pathetically predictable and stale. Hard to believe these two actors would make such a bad, boring, worthless movie. Sad, do not waste your time and money.

A spaceship with passengers in deep sleep travels to an unknown planet. One passenger wakes up early and the drama starts. The film had my full attention the whole time. Interesting story with good actors. Few logic flaws (1 medium sized one).

Interesting concept for a sci-fi film. But bad writing in the second half ruined everything.

Passengers tells the story of Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) who, along with 4,999 other passengers, is aboard the Avalon spaceship headed towards the planet of Homestead II for colonization. However, a malfunction causes Jim's pod to malfunction and he wakes up alone, 90 years into the journey. The film follows his struggles with loneliness and the moral implications of his decision to wake up fellow passenger Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) to keep him company. The film is visually stunning and the performances of Pratt and Lawrence are solid, but the story and script falter. The romance between Jim and Aurora feels forced and the lack of tension in set pieces makes the film lack excitement. The movie also jumps between ideas in a disjointed way, which doesn't do it any favors given its runtime of 116 minutes. The ending is also unsatisfying and lacks a sense of depth or meaning. Passengers is a visually pleasing film, but it fails to deliver an entertaining experience for its runtime. The story is unengaging, the script is weak and the moral implications of the characters actions are not explored in a meaningful way. Despite its shiny exterior, Passengers is a film that fails to make an impact.

While a watchable love story, this J.Lawrence big budget vehicle is overlong and eventually unworthy of her talent.

More about relationships and less about science fiction in deep space. Both of the main characters reactions and choices came across as believable ones (no spoilers). Would I have done as he did or would I have done as she did? Maybe...

I think it take really good actors to be able to carry a movie as basically the only people in it. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence do just that...really well. This might have been billed as a Sci-Fi as other reviewers have stated, but it is definitely romance, adventure and drama, with a little suspense thrown in. I saw this without reading any reviews and loved it straight away, so much so that I watched it again within a few days. It is one of those movies that can be watched over and over without becoming boring. When I read some of the critics reviews after watching it, I really thought they had the wrong movie. My recommendation is if you like romance movies you will like this one, it is that simple.

This movie I felt could of been so much more and yet I felt so disappointed by it and its a shame because if done right, I feel like this could of a been a real hit. You got two very talented lead actors with a interesting concept but it seems like it fails to execute what it wants to tell. I think this is just one of those movies where you hear about it, curious to see what its like and then by the end wonder why you decided to watch it.

Loved it. Cast were great, plot was good, with twists and turns. Michael Sheen should have had a bigger part though.

It's just a lovely film to give your brain a little tiny provocation and I'd beautifully filmed. I loved it. Not an Oscar winner but great little break from my own stress. I've watched twice in 7 days in lockdown via film 4

Not as bad as critics rating, its an underrated cool concept space-romance movie, the concept was awesome the execution was not that par-great but it was good, the story was unique and great, the visuals were stunningly beautiful and amazing, the music and soundtracks were phenomenal, the acting was great the chemistry between the two was lovely and the brief little cameo of Lawrence was amazing and the bartender and his "live a little" quote and the gentleman attitude he was awesome, the technical failure and the whole year of person being alone was like surviving in space than the moment of waking her up felt little sad for her and the whole thing after that feels entertaining and settled, the birthday gift was hard for her but that was not impact-full to us as it was predictable, the space-ships interior detailing was awesome the dancing floor, the rooms, the basketball court and the bar all things were well crafted, love the space suited jump, the Low-gravity scene was Jaw-dropping and awesome it was amazing and little surprising, the last mission of fixing the error and the lost in space rescue it was great although the resurrection thing was little over the top but digestible, the ending with the Nature view it was beautiful and amazing, overall it was visually-stunning,cool-concept entertaining movie!

It's a good movie if you just accept every fact they show to you but if you think about it then you will find there are so many things that don't make any sense

I thought this was a very well-acted and fun movie. The chemistry between Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence was on-point, and I enjoyed every moment. Great effects and visuals!

This movie is a boring version of Pandorum. The writers copied 60% of Pandorums story, but replaced all horror elements with a stupid love story, that did not work for me. This movie would have been much better, if both protagonists would have been woken up from hypersleep by a system failure. The fact that Jim wakes up Aurora just because he doesnt want to die alone on a spaceship, makes the hole story unbeleiveable. Aurora finds out, hates him because he destroyed her whole life and then there is a moment in the film when she forgives him from one second to another. This doesnt make sense at all. How do they live like 50 years alone on a spaceship with nothing other to do than Playing Guitar Hero, doing sports and talking to the Android at the bar without running crazy? i had loved to see more screen time from Laurence Fishburne as well. While Chris Pratt's acting in this movie is pretty average, Jennifer Lawrence is carrying the movie alone.

it is a good movie, but I feel that it loses coherence in the end, it is entertaining and the story is very interesting, I like the environment in which it develops.

I don’t understand the hate for this movie, it’s kinda cheesy but well acted and visually beautiful. Not an Oscar winner but an enjoyable watch.

I was somewhat intrigued by the premise of this movie, only to be disappointed by it's implementation. The over-arching premise was interesting but the sub-plots tended to be simply weird. Watching Pratt's character obsessing over Lawrences character in suspended animation was, in a word, creepy. If I had to generalize I'd likely say that the writer did an excellent job of crafting an interesting story. The movie makers, on the other hand, fell well short in their implementation.

I really enjoyed this movie, I was very thrilled and touched during the movie. I was lost in the amount of different emotions that were in my head, but in the very good way. This movie shows that you can make a great movie with only two people playing. Really amazing

Passengers is an underrated movie, while its certainly no movie master piece, the situation Chris Pratts character is put in as the only person awake with 90 years of travel left is an very intriguing one, especially when he questions to weather or not to do something bad, this is where the movie starts to fall a bit flat as after the expected result of his decision how every the overall situation the two find themselves in is an entertaining one, and if the ending had a twist instead like someone never finding out a certain truth then it would made for a more interesting movie and ending, however its still a good watch, as its better than Jurassic park Fallen Kingdom.

in spite of the high score, it had many technical issues. however, i love scifi. i have watched this on tv many times now as well as in the movie theater. some of the issues are; 1, only one medical pod for all those passengers? 2, how are they supposed to return home to earth, as they indicate they will do, if their hibernation pods are so limited in numbers, etc.? 3, why would you wake a girl you like up if the ship is obviously showing signs of problems, wouldn't you wake somebody who could help you fix them? and why would you trust doing a tethered space flight if there are many signs of so many glitches with the ship? its insane! anyway, several other problems and still, i liked this movie. i enjoy finding so many problems and the fantasy of it is a lot of fun. its challenging & fun.

Passengers, two great players to meet for the first time in a project together, I think.I like a lot of space movies these days. actually the film proceeded a little heavy but this is very normal.Because most of the time there is not much action Two people can wait on a big ship how much action can wait but sometimes I get bored. I did not understand the actions on the last scenes I could not fully understand the difficulty on the ship and a person can wear such a heat even if the outer space dress did not make sense to me the last scenes I found absurd but overall I liked it was good. I already like the movies about the passage of this time. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted to get as badly as the films of the genre wanted, finally the movie was nice.

It was mostly interesting in the middle of the movie where the tension is, and the rest feels kind of slow or predictable. The CGI is not as realistic as other theater-released movies, and more like a show, but is charming in its own way. The story's resolution felt too quick, right as it was getting really good. I wish it could have had a longer moment of Jim and Aurora discussing seriously about their future. I would be interested to see a story written afterward about their life together and whether they really explored every other option - for example, did they ever even want to try sharing a hibernation pod and saved a few years perhaps? Or maybe they wanted to save it for someone else who accidentally woke up. Or, did they have a kid together and have the kid sleep in the pod? OH HOH! Good one right?? Or a sequel/spin-off movie exploring the other subject of life on the new planet. Well, I almost left this at a 7/10 but once I realized how interested I am in this story to the point of wanting to see more, I bumped it up.

A ship that it is going from earth to another planet and will took several years to reach there, there is about of 5.000 people at the ship, including passengers and tripulation, that are hibernating for the time to reach the planet. When the ship get in an asteroids place the shield fail sometimes and the functionality of the ship start getting in trouble and one of the problems is that one of the passengers capsule open a lot before the time and he start living alone until he make some questionable decisions. Directed by Morten Tyldum.
This movie can be divided in 2 very different parts. The first act is more about we understand the situation before the character, and then we see him finding out what is going on. I think they did a good job showing him trying to fix the situation somehow, considering that he is an engineer it totally make sense the things that he was messing with. Showing the isolation and at the same time letting us know the ship and what functionalities it has was essential for us to know where we were. I think that the movie did an good job in showing the desespere of being alone with only robots and aritifical intelligence with so long, at the same time that it was good, i felt that i could have been a little better, i didn't felt much the isolation problem, i didn't felt that sadness that much, they could have gone a little further on it, giving a little more time to this act until they got in the next one. The second part, wich goes until the end of the movie, is a totally romance, they got stuck a little more in the survivor thing, but they go in full romance later on the movie, it doesn't got nothing new and nothing different, it becomes a very cliche story, that isn't that bad, just isn't nothing new. They input a relationship that is very forced, i didn't felt that it was natural, but isn't the worst neither, them had some chemistry wich make things better. I could really think in myself alone waiting to die, the movie could make me have this reflection, wich surely is a positive point, the helplessness of being alone is destroyer.
The acting was on point. Chris Pratt was very good, in the begin of the movie where his character was figuring things out, and some shocking discovery happens, he was good at showing unhappiness, in some moments he had a cry face that i totally bought, it was pretty good. Jennifer Lawrence was ok, she kind of overacted in some sequences, her scream in some moments kind felt forced and not natural, she wasn't horrible, i just believe that things could have been a little more organic. Laurence Fishburn is functional, his character is crucial for develop of the movie in the third act, he didn't had much to do, but worked out.
I like the message that the movie brought, that we don't have to go for an amazing life to be happy, the movie flirt with this idea in some moments, and makes sense with the contect there, it was good.
The futurology of the movie was good, they ship convinced as being some really advanced technology.
The effects was also very good, it didn't had a lot of them during the movie, but the few moments that they use it worked out, there is one pool scene that the gravity is changed and the water start moving wich was very nice.
The story of the movie isn't original at all, when they were presenting the ship and showing how the place work or the tense on being alone and die alone, the movie was actually being very good, and i was curious, but after the romance start with a click it kind lost this aspect and it became a generic one. The movie got some easy solutions and somethings that come out of nowhere to explain one thing or another. Things that sould have been presented before in the movie, that when it comes up it feels deslocated from what is going on. Somethings doesn't make sense, somethings were very out of place.
The cinematography and the soundtrack don't show up in the movie, it doesn't mark in any aspect, and pass desapercebidos. There are some cool transitions but that's it.
The movie may work if you accept the big plot and how things get during the course, that didn't bother me much, but i can see why some people would hate it. But overall this a movie with a interesting plot, the story could have been told in a much better way, but still it is a romance at first sight story with nothing new.

As a science fiction movie (which this is, partly) the attention to detail in the production design is top notch - it looks gorgeous, and features one of the more original and technically-plausible designs for a space-liner (albeit a generation ship) ever seen on screen. Others might be dismissive, but as an adventure-romance it also works for me - because of good tight direction and pacing, but moreover because of the convincing performances of the two leads. In other hands it might not, but Lawrence and Pratt work the hell out of the slight story and their chemistry-enhanced efforts pay off. I was moved, and left the cinema feeling like I'd just seen an excellent high-romance mega-budget episode of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone.

Great movie. Several things could've been done better on the story and drama side, but it's still a great movie overall. Possibly the best-looking sci-fi technology I've seen in a long time - everything looks realistic and functional and well-designed at the same time (not that sterile curvy Apple-like crap from Oblivion that's all-design-no-function). The critics effed up again on this one.
(I also can't help but notice how the "users" giving this a 4 like the critics did also tend to write overly long-winded and boring reviews, just like the critics. Is someone trying to game the system or is it simply a certain kind of people who like to ruin movies for themselves through overthinking?)
