It may not be nuanced, but it taps into something mythical — ferocious monsters rising from nowhere to be battled by 21st century swordfighters. And it’s exhilarating.

Some of the most fun in Uprising comes from its elder statesmen, holdovers from Pacific Rim who play for laughs.

There are nr2 movies that are better than the original.Case and point:
Star Wars 2 (the Empire Strikes Back)
The Godfather2
Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior)
And so on. You have to see nr.1 to fully get them but they are way WAY better... And so is Pacific Rim 2 (Uprising)
If BIG MECH/JEAGER destruction of the iconic urban mega environments like Tokyo Sidney and Hong Kong are your thing (And they sure are mine) then this is as good as it gets.
IT's also funnier than the first movie. The characters are more relatable/(they are flawed and slightly nuts)And the battles are superb.
Let's face it, we are in hardcore popcorn territory here and, this is as good as it gets.
Yeah I used "as good as it gets" twice so it's a well deserved 10.

Like most unintended second installments, this one is superfluous – a remix of moments, scenes, and images from its predecessor infused with the need to make everything bigger and louder.

Uprising is loud, packed with impressive effects and propulsive — or as propulsive as a car with no brakes going downhill — but it lacks the heart of del Toro’s original.

If you enjoyed 2013’s Pacific Rim but secretly wished it was more like a vapid Transformers sequel, then you’ll love Pacific Rim Uprising. Everyone else can give this heavy-metal howler a hard pass.

This is Transformers-level inanity. This is a blow to your head from a mallet. It will not make you feel like a 10-year-old, but it will make you feel 10 years older than when you first entered the theater. It is certainly not personal in any way, shape or form, just strictly chilly, corporate to a fault and somehow both chintzy and wildly overblown.

Greetings from Lithuania.
"Pacific Rim: Uprising" (2018) wasn't as good as "Pacific Rim". This one was clearly made with a younger target audience in mind, and resembles more of a Transformers movie then "Pacific Rim". There are few returning characters from a first film in this one, unfortunately, two of the most annoying ones. The fight sequences are not bad, a lot of money clearly was used but problem is that they are very forgettable. New main characters are descent, and Cailee Spaeny was a standout for me. No wonder later she will be cast as main in "Alien : Romulus". The plot here is mainly to keep the action happening. There are some good scenes here and there between characters, but they mostly generic and formulaic. Overall, I've expected worst from "Pacific Rim: Uprising", given the negativity towards this film is saw on internet during the years. It's a generic monster action movie, coming nowhere close to first film. But then again it is not that bad either. For one dumb evening, this is not the worst choice.

I could literally just copy and paste my review from the first film but I won't. This looks amazing, the effects are great, the 3D looks beautiful. It sounds brilliant too. Problem is that it is pretty devoid of character. There is macho posturing and awkward 'jokes'. Also there are some really boring sections. Apart from the giant alien and robots fighting it's not a fun film full of filler. They made minimal effort to make the story unexpected, it's not just aliens come we fight them. It's the same as the first film, maybe slightly less exciting.

Where the first Pacific Rim couldn't wait to get to the goods, whiplashing the audience into their first monster-vs-robot fight in the first ten minutes, this one seems reluctant to get there at all. A long majority of Uprising is spent outside the giant mechs, doting over a slew of thin, bland, mostly-new focal figures instead. It seems frightened to cut loose, withholding the payout for fear it can't measure up. Those worries are well-founded. Once the monster threat finally rears its head and the city block-sized laser swords start flying, Uprising makes for a pale impersonation. Gone are the unique, individualized robotic designs of the previous film, instead replaced by a standardized set of forms that would easily run together in action scenes without their helpful paint jobs. Rules and restrictions for the universe, an important set of boundaries established and obeyed in the first film, are hand-waved away as soon as it's convenient to do so. What few returning characters remain are reduced to simple archetypes, emotionlessly going through the motions alongside the new cast members. It isn't even all that much fun to watch, despite all the flashing lights, rumbling buildings and well-trodden action movie conventions. A pointless sequel that does nothing new and actively resists many aspects of the original - why bother at all?

Much worse than the first part, which by the way was not great. Needed like 3 days to finish watching it.
