The stagnant precognition of a hollow future: A 2.0-star "narrative void" of rhythmic failure.2007 (2.0)I watched "Next" in the theater during its 2007 release, and it remains a disappointing 2.0-star record in my archive—a film that failed to provide a visceral "revelation" despite its high-tension premise of seeing two minutes into the future. The narrative rhythm felt incredibly "stagnant" and mechanical, lacking the "chewy" intellectual complexity or the "raw" emotional stakes found in my 5.0-star pillars. While the concept of "vivid" foresight had potential, the execution was buried under "pathetic" action tropes and a repetitive rhythm that failed to shatter the fourth wall of my skepticism. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by a sense of "silent frustration" as the plot spiraled into a 100% predictable and shallow climax, leaving me in a state of boredom rather than "hororong." Unlike the "sensational" energy of "Insadong Scandal" or the "raw" precision of "Fermat’s Room," this theatrical experience felt like a "vivid" exercise in style over substance, offering a high-tension engine with no "raw" soul. It stands in my 2007 record as a "pathetic" attempt at a sci-fi thriller—a "stagnant" artifact that left no permanent, "sensational" scar on my consciousness, serving only as a rhythmic reminder of how a "vivid" premise can result in a 2.0-star void of wasted potential.

Jessica Biel plays Liz, a woman who is adamant she doesn't want to be around any man who gives her any sort of weirdo vibe, even for a moment. Yet, somehow, she ends up the love interest of Cris played by Nicolas Cage-- a bouffy-haired psychic magician whose behaviour and appearance is tapping into enough weirdness to alert the FBI. This is a badly written film with some laugh-worthy dialogue, providing some entertainment and laughs, although possibly not as the filmmakers intended. The later part of the film culminates in some surprise, before finishing with a disappointing and lazy conclusion.

Next (2007) starts with an exciting premise that immediately hooks you. Nicolas Cage plays Cris Johnson, a man with the unique ability to see a few minutes into his future. The first act delivers on the concept, balancing intrigue and action with some fun moments where his abilities shine. It sets the stage for something big, and you can feel the potential brimming as the story begins to unfold. However, as the second act progresses, the movie starts to lose its way. The momentum slows, and while there are still moments of brilliance, like a few thought-provoking quotes about beauty and perception, it feels like the film is more focused on reaching a predetermined conclusion than fully exploring the depth of Cris' abilities or the psychological impact they have on him and others. The performances from Cage and Jessica Biel are enjoyable, and their chemistry works well enough to carry the more personal scenes, even when the script feels underdeveloped. Despite its flaws, Next still has moments that stick with you, and the ending adds an unexpected twist that makes you reflect on what came before. While the movie doesn't quite deliver on its full potential, it remains an entertaining watch if you enjoy high-concept sci-fi thrillers. It's the kind of film that leaves you wondering how much better it could have been with a stronger focus on character depth and the world-building around its unique concept.

Clear proof that not all Philip K. **** stories have the substance to fuel a feature film. Desperately short on creativity, Next takes a clever original concept (precognitive masquerades as a low-level Vegas magician) and spins it into a pulpy blob of action goop. Along the way, it sprinkles a roomful of to-the-letter FBI stereotypes, a painfully shoehorned love story and a weirdly under-explained cell of nuke-wielding French terrorists. Even the mindless action scenes are toothless, as Nic Cage's future-weary prophet sees every bullet coming before the gun's even drawn, basically playing the part of Neo without the presence of an Agent Smith to counter his best moves. Cage is his usual anti-charismatic self, old and burnt-out at a glance, but the real surprise isn't how low Cage sinks: it's how far Julianne Moore is willing to follow. Both actors imbue their roles with such a wooden lack of emotion that I wouldn't be surprised to learn the entire film was comprised of first takes. Dull, passionless and predictable, it's a futile waste of ninety minutes.

Guilty pleasure movie for me. It's a time-traveling movie with Nick Cage! If you like Cage and/or time travel movies then worth watching.

Not a terrible movie, just so so. There are some good moments, but they're far and few between.

the amazing frank cadillac.. Next Next is smart, gripping and fun even though it may lose track for a bit and disappoint you at some points but all in all it definitely is a one time watch.

I enjoyed the movie, until the worst ending ever. I can't believe I wasted my time watching this. I won't rate it lower because it was mostly the ending that was terrible. Other than that, the story is ok.

It's actually not that bad. Very interesting concept and nice special effects. Too bad they didn't give Peter Falk a bigger role. Of course if you are a fan of Nick Cage, then who cares.

" Next" was a film that regularly entertained but without bad faith , about someone who could see the future , and who changes , as Nicolas Cage was not infallible , let alone the movie turned out very regular , but gave plenty of action .

This is a perfect example of a Nicolas Cage movie. You will totally love or totally hate this movie based on how much you love Nicolas Cage doing dumb action stuff.

The movie on a whole is really nothing too special, but somehow I found it very entertaining. Cage is as bland as ever, but oddly I like his style of "acting." It's so bad that it's good (at least for me.) One gripe I have give in is the ending. It's just feels like such a cop out, like the writers really had no idea how to give it a good ending. Overall: A fun movie that can be entertaining at times, but a lackluster ending simply spoils what could have been something special (kinda.)

Next is a wasted opportunity. The movie Next is a blast for about the first ten minutes. A great concept and an okay script. It then blunders repeatedly unsure of how to evolve, and ruins everything it started with. The dialogue suddenly becomes horrible and the acting is revolting. A ninety-minute film feels twice as long as it should.

I almost never write reviews but the intense negativity towards this movie really ticks me off so I had to say something. There are so many crappy movies out there achieving high ratings yet this one, which both kept me entertained throughout and wanting more when it was over has become subject of a crucifixion. I confess that I didn't watch this movie about the time it was released because of how low the scores were (under 5.0 on IMDB at the time) and now that I have seen it I'm shocked at how cruel everyone has been. In fact, I think a lot of people made the same mistake as I have, basing their decision not to watch the movie on the ratings, because its IMDB rating is now over 6.0. It's not an Oscar winner, but it's got a clever script, is entertaining, has the beautiful Jessica Biel in it and deserves a lot more than the low ratings it's been given. Honestly, I think you haters either have insurmountable expectations or your taste in storytelling has decayed to the level of super cheesy action flicks like the more recent Die Hard installments.

A lazy film that breaks the most important rule of creative writing...lazy endings. This film has one of the laziest (worst) endings I have ever seen. Horrible film.
