SummaryEveryone deserves a great love story. But for 17-year-old Simon Spier it's a little more complicated: he's yet to tell his family or friends he's gay and he doesn't know the identity of the anonymous classmate he's fallen for online.

Director Greg Berlanti, who has helmed a string of hit television shows as producer and writer, uses the familiar teenage romance genre to tell an LGBTQ story, and in so doing makes these tropes feel fresh, fun, entertaining.

Love, Simon is a John Hughes movie for audiences who just got woke. And for all its attempts not to offend, it's a genuine groundbreaker.

I'm not gay but as soon as I finished watching that movie I knew I had to give it a 10 out of 10 review. This movie is really sincere and touching all the way, and it has a story that really appealed to me as a 17 year old as well.

First, I would like to thank you for creating and releasing this amazing film. I have not heard of this film or the book series until I first watched the film on July 27, 2018. This film came “out” March 16, 2018. Ever since then I have been a fan of the Simonverse. This is the first film and romantic-comedy drama released by a major studio-20th Century Fox (Now 20th Century Studios after purchase by Disney) with a gay lead. This is the best romantic-comedy drama film I have ever seen and I have seen 100s. Great story, great music, great characters, great actors, great attention to detail, and overall great production. Everyone involved in Love, Simon has shown how amazing they get their job done. I will be enjoying Love, Simon and other Simonverse projects for the rest of my life. Including Love, Victor on Hulu which has been renewed for a second season. Everyone needs to watch this amazing film, so they can understand what other people have to go through to get their love story. Everyone deserves a great love story. This film and the tv show are based off the book by Becky Albertalli, “Simon Vs. the Homo sapiens Agenda”. The book is a great read and I cannot wait to read all of her other books she has written. This world needs to be more inclusive no matter what we believe in spiritually.

Love, Simon feels lived-in and self-assured, two traits its fans will want to adopt as well.

It’s a canny blend of “Degrassi” and John Hughes, but here the kids mostly behave like angels. Love, Simon is the rare, feel-good gay movie.

There may be little in this movie that you haven't seen before, but the perspective through which you're seeing it can make all the difference.

Greg Berlanti’s movie about a teenager’s coming out is nothing if not sincere. More to the point, it’s not very much except sincere.

The film is a confused, privileged mess. When setting up it's premise it immediately and explicitly undermines itself in the opening narration: Simon is a young white man with rich parents who are loving, attentive and quite progressive, he goes to an affluent school with a diverse student body with several LGBT students, he's athletic and not at all an oddball or misfit. And yet the central struggle is his being afraid to come out. This contradiction should give you a good sense of how the film conducts itself with as well as it's estimation of the audience's intelligence: Simon has every type of advantage and his coming out has all the threat of lightly tossing a pillow from 4 inches up onto some larger, more fluffy pillows. Special shout out to the phrase "gay people are the only type of people that need to come out," I'm sure trans people really appreciated that one.
