It’s warm, it’s breezy – it’s a burst of summery family fun that is sure to inspire long looks back at the old movies and Cobra Kai episodes while sparking renewed interest in martial arts apprenticeship. Anyone would get a kick out of it.

Karate Kids: Legends is a classic story reimagined for the TikTok generation. Ben Wang is a fantastic lead, while Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have fantastic chemistry – if only they had more screentime. One of the better installments in this mixed franchise.

What The Next Karate Kid failed to achieve, it achieves here. A story about friendship, valor, courage, and some very good fights. Redemption, humanity, compassion, family, kindness, and doing the right thing—recurring themes in The Karate Kid—are beautifully realized here. A cute, lighthearted film for the whole family. It's reminiscent of the best films made in the '90s. If you like the Karate Kid saga and well-written scripts, you'll love this film. However, it's a new story. It's not about the characters seen so far (who appear as supporting characters); this is a new Karate Kid.Thank you so much to the entire cast!

In Karate Kid: Legends we see Ralph's character returning to New York after being sought out and found in the place he first encountered Mr. Miyagi tending to his bonsai trees, and the beautiful relationship that formed between a boy with no friends in a place that was unforgivingly tormenting toward him and how that boy has become the man Mr. Miyagi always knew he could be.More to this is how, despite life being difficult, Jackie's character gives the same energy in responses that Mr. Miyagi himself would have given, and trusts that Ralph will show up because of the respect and admiration he still has for a man who taught him everything about being a good man himself.Five stars across the board - one of the best movies I've seen this year.

The secret weapon, though, is dimpled star Ben Wang, the 25-year-old lead in the Disney+ series American Born Chinese.

Weirdly it's because it is so damned hokey that parts of the movie are agreeable. One can't help but laugh. That, plus the lead performer, Ben Wang as Li Fong, is extremely likable. He gives a terrific performance, even if you've seen every beat before.

Even at a mercifully short 94 minutes, this movie is exhausting. That would be fine if it weren’t also overly sincere, familiar, and dull.

This new instalment knows which story beats to hit, but it has little grasp of the emotional undercurrents that made the original resonate — how it touched on adolescent insecurities, first love, and the scourge of school bullies.

Legends is the latest in a long line of terrible “Karate Kid” movies. A passing of the torch, such as it is, to the next inferior rip-off.

Movie is actually good but there is nothing new. They just put the last two stories into NY setting and thats it. The actors from previous movies are forseen to give nostalgia vibes, you can like it or not.

A Fresh Roundhouse Kick of Nostalgia Karate Kid Legends arrives with the weight of legacy but doesn’t quite aim for the heart the way its predecessors did. Unlike earlier entries that explored self-discovery and redemption with personal stakes, this film feels more like a spiritual side-quest than an emotional journey. What it lacks in depth, though, it tries to make up for in style. The story is a mix of new and old — offering a fresh, urban visual palette while leaning heavily on nostalgia. Yet, it blends both elements smoothly, making the past feel present without being overbearing. However, the pacing becomes uneven. It begins steadily but starts to drag before lurching into a faster rhythm that unfortunately dilutes the emotional payoff of certain scenes. The screenplay does manage to balance drama and emotion, even if the action choreography doesn’t quite punch at franchise standards. Where the film truly shines is in its characters. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio return naturally, serving more as guides than crutches. But it’s Ben Wang who impresses most — carrying the narrative with conviction and holding his own against legends. Among the supporting cast, Joshua Jackson delivers a standout performance that demands more attention than he’s given. Visually, the film leans into a modern city vibe with crisp framing and contemporary tone. While the fight scenes are serviceable, they don’t leave lasting marks. Thematically, legacy is the beating heart — though it’s explored more externally than within. Sum up - Karate Kid Legends leaves a mild imprint. It stays with you mostly for its fresh energy and respectful callbacks, not for any deep emotional punch. Still, it’s an enjoyable watch — especially for fans and newcomers alike looking for something familiar yet lightly reimagined.

I guess pretty much nothing worked for me here, the drab sets and performances really dragged this down. The lead shows some good physical action abilities but this story is just taped together.

'Karate Kid: Legends' is a poor attempt to unite the worlds that comprise this cinematic universe and revive the essence of the '80s classic. Basically, it's a long-winded episode of a teen series with bland characters who change their minds almost immediately. Despite its short runtime, it wastes too much time on irrelevant subplots and trying to revive nostalgia. Macchio's appearance as Daniel-san is awful. Some good kung fu/karate moves catch the eye, but the uneven cinematography makes them hard to appreciate.
