Washington Post
It sits in a rather unspectacular niche between modern fairy tale and a disease-of-the-week TV movie.

I love this movie, it still holds up today and Robin Williams is gold. This is a fun movie with characters that encounter real struggles. The child actors are decent and a different movie that they would not make today.

I might be alone but I love this movie

San Francisco Examiner
Francis Ford Coppola's Jack has its affecting moments, but in the end illustrates the pitfalls of the "concept" movie, the kind you can boil down to a one-line hook.

Empire
The formula for Robin Williams' childish stick wares dangerously thin this time out.

Variety
Blandness and lack of daring characterize nearly every minute of the very long two hours, which are marked by a high degree of professionalism at the service of little content.

San Francisco Chronicle
Jack is a warm, heartfelt disaster that shows that life is fleeting but movies can be very long indeed.

Austin Chronicle
A listless family comedy and bland morality primer.

Even if the plot was silly and the movie was predictable, it was still a fun watch. The acting was good, it was funny at times, sad at others, and the movie was entertaining. It might not be the most original movie out there, but it's worth the watch.

The stagnant machinery of a misplaced childhood: A 2.0-star vivid but awkward drift through sentimental stagnation.2011(2.0)I watched "Jack" in 2011, and it remains a pathetic 2.0-star record in my archive—a vivid display of how a high-concept premise can lead to a stagnant and uncomfortable emotional journey. This experience **** the fourth wall of the family drama genre by infusing Robin Williams’s raw, childlike energy into a body that aged at a high-tension speed, resulting in an atmosphere that felt 100% mechanical and jarring. While the production attempted a sensational exploration of mortality and innocence, the narrative rhythm was far too stagnant, dragging through a pathetic cycle of schoolyard antics and forced sentimentality that lacked the chewy intellectual depth of Williams’s better works. Seeing the vivid but pathetic struggle of a child in a man's body provided a rhythmic sense of unease, but the emotional payoff felt stagnant and manipulative, leaving me in a state of silent frustration. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by the rhythmic, raw sadness of the premise and the vivid but stagnant execution of the aging makeup, creating a journey that felt more like a pathetic curiosity than a permanent, sensational scar on my soul. Unlike the vivid soul of "I Love You Phillip Morris" or the raw brilliance of "MouseHunt," this encounter possessed a rhythm that was far too stagnant to resonate. It stands in my 2011 record as a vivid exercise in tonal inconsistency—a 2.0-star artifact of rhythmic discomfort that remained too stagnant to achieve a sensational impact on my psychological archive.

Jack means well and is undeniably pleasant, but it features most of the actors at there worst and it has an absurd plot and just simply tries to make you cry way too hard. I give this movie 20%.

For some people, 40 is the new 10. For Jack Powell, it's the other way around - literally.
