Fun family movie of the summer! CUTE - HEARTWARMING - CREATIVE - ORIGINAL Good script, even though it wasn't the direction I was expecting the story to take. It took a bit long for the pace to pickup after establishing a fun, original concept. Too much exposition. This didn't leave ample time for a longer transformation sequence of the IF headquarters, nor to see more of the IFs get there reunion with their children in the end. Visually, it's beautifully entertaining. Kraskinski and Reynolds put the work in to give us safe family film that feels original and fresh. It's still nothing wild, but a fun watch for kids of all ages.

It’s Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends but worse. I don’t have a problem with the acting or casting, but I had a very hard time following the strange plot and found myself frequently bored.

IF is just such a colourful and creative film as all the IF's are just stunningly beautiful to look at it just has a purply heart.

A cool movie to watch with families and their children, other than that it's a great movie. I expected more because it's a film with only good actors, but I was wrong.

6.5/10 While i still believe the phrase "I'm not a kid anymore" means you will likely forget about your imaginary friends and you can't see them anymore, in terms of my experience with IF as a film was sort of like that, with different meanings, nowadays time a film like IF was indeed not my cup of tea anymore, it's either that or it's just Krasinski work that are flawed, but when IF works, it really works, and what works was all the heartwarming moments and emotional moments that i appreciate and works for me personally, and i'm not a shame to say that i did cry, again the movie as a whole wasn't bad, it's an average live action animated film for kids that deals with real life normal growing up phase on kids life, with a passable possibly original story written by Krasinski himself, it have a charms in it while it's also still have a flawed in it, still overall when it works i love it, Cailey Fleming is doing her best, Ryan Reynolds is a pretty good addition to the film, and maybe younger people might enjoy it more, at least it's not terrible.

Boring Long Film that I will never end up finishing, Did John Krasinski Direct and Write this? Sorry, the Best I can Do for you is 5/10, Should have looked at imaginary friends and tried to find out how to make this film interesting or appealing to someone.

I loved this movie. It brought my and the rest of my family tears of joy consistently. The end of the movie was mind-blowing and superb. The thing I really appreciate about it is that it feels a little bit like John Krawinski’s and Ryan Reynold’s pet project, which game it tons of charm.

This film is the story of Bea (Cailey Fleming) who is dealing with a stressful situation when she begins to see all of these IFs aka Imaginary Friends and their Manager Cal (Ryan Reynolds) at Bea's Grandmother's (Fiona Shaw) home where Bea is staying while her Dad (John Krasinski) has a medical procedure. In my opinion, the film was a little slow at first but picked up momentum as we are introduced to this all-star cast of IFs. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Blossom) Steve Carell (Blue) Louis Gossett Jr. (Lewis). I enjoyed this film that was also written, and directed by Krasinski. I found it touching, and I even began to tear up during some scenes which is a good sign for a good film. I would recommend it especially for anyone dealing with stressful situations.

If is so much more than the trailers would have you **** has humor, heart, emotion and a great message to adults and kids alike. While some things may be a bit too deep and emotional for younger kids, pre-teens and on should really connect to what the story is ****'s an enjoyable family film that packs a bit of an emotional punch and is worth seeing on the big screen.

I'm surprised to see that this got such middling reviews on its release back in May! The first half of this year hasn't really been great for kids / family fare, and this really wasn't the goofy comedy I was expecting especially for a U-rated movie (remember we live in the age where even Tom & Jerry is rated PG). I wouldn't even call this a children's film - it feels like a "children's film made for adults". It's a bit of a slow burner and is probably a bit too long - you can feel the plot getting more convoluted and complicated than it needs to be. The animation is also somewhat overdone too as the full on cartoon elements seem at odds with the more serious live action scenes in the hospital. On the whole though "IF" is full of depth and heart that you don't get from most modern family / children's films, it's extremely well intentioned, and despite being a 41 year old man - and expecting an emotionally manipulative ending - the ending still caught me off guard and had me in tears for the last 10 minutes. Great film!

Great family movie. Anyone can watch it and leave their couch satisfied. It has fun and also very moving story. CGI looks very well done compared to most of the high budget movies from last few years. Acting is fantastic but it´s nothing less than I expected from cast like this. Definitely big thumbs up.

John Krasinski's IF has a certain charm, but it just doesn't quite hit the mark. In the cinema where I watched it, the kids were running around whilst adults tried to sleep to pass the time, neither engaged nor entertained. The film can't seem to find its groove, and even though there are a few sweet moments, it ends up being a letdown, and I can’t remember a single laugh. It's a bit of a disappointment and doesn't live up to what it could have been: a kind, engaging family comedy.

Weak storytelling. And the score that is meant to guide you on what emotion you should feel in each scene, is especially frustrating. The plot makes very little sense. Still not sure what was happening in this film.

IF is a heartfelt, feel-good type of movie. I didn't have much expectations going in but I enjoyed it overall. It's a good family movie that kids and adults can enjoy.

It’s an easy watch with some cute moments. It almost feels unfinished at times; like its premise could have been more fleshed out. Still, it’s worth a lazy afternoon viewing.

While it had potential, “IF” uses most of that and washes it down the drain. Sure it’s family fun, but it had much more it could’ve done.

IN A NUTSHELL: The story is about a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and begins to see everyone's imaginary friends who had been left behind as their real-life friends grew up. I never had an imaginary friend, probably because I have a twin sister, so I never felt truly alone and needed an IF. She has been my best friend my entire life. I love you, Tracey! I get the impression he's really like his character in this movie in real life. He acts in the movie, but even more, he wrote and directed the film. What a talented man. In my eyes, he can do no wrong. He was always a beloved actor, but now he has become a wonderful filmmaker and storyteller. Steve Carell's voice talent is stellar. John Krasinski wrote the role specifically for Steve. John Krasinski also collaborated with Ryan Reynolds, who stars in the movie and helped produce it. Ryan Reynolds describes the film as a live-action Pixar movie. It was actually their goal to make the movie feel like that. Cailey Fleming is adorable and does a great job. As you watch the movie, you'll definitely recognize the voice talents, yet not always be able to guess who the actors are. The cast includes Emily Blunt (John Krasinski's wife), Matt Damon, Phoebe Walter-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Louis Gossett Jr., Bobby Moynihan, Jon Stewart, Sam Rockwell, Richard Jenkins, Maya Rudolph, Awkwafina, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Vince Vaughn, and more. The title "IF" has double-meaning. IF stands for "Imaginary Friend", but also refers to our imagination. The movie poster is cute and immediately makes you want to know more about what's going on in the picture. There is a lot of humor in the movie, both visual and verbal. The special effects and animation are pretty cute. For good writing, I always tell my author clients, "Show, don't' tell." The opening montage does exactly that. Nice job. The musical score was so lovely and perfectly emotive. Throughout the entire movie, there is a feeling of sadness, peppered with humor. Some critics have complained that it made the tone of the movie uneven. I agree AND disagree. Life can be like that. In that regard, this movie about magic is very realistic. Life is hard. We need to try to laugh and find as many connections as possible to help us get through it. THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: I hadn't seen the trailer, so I assumed this was a kid's movie. Kids will probably get a kick out of a lot of it, but it's really for adults who feel beaten up by life and who have forgotten the childlike wonder inside themselves. Parents, bring tissues. Kids and adults will definitely pull very different things from this movie. The plot is a bit overcomplicated. Sometimes, we see John Krasinski's character in the hospital wearing normal clothes even though he's a patient. I thought that wasn't allowed and have never seen any patient wearing anything but their hospital gown. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Some profanity, such as "OMG." Two parents are sick in hospitals. Lots of crazy shenanigans.

A decent, clever return for family movies in theaters. It's pretty uneven at times, but at the end of the day the heartfelt tone wins us over and there are some cute characters in there as well. It's underwhelming if you compare it to a classic Disney movie, but on it's own right it's harmless and entertaining and tugs you at the heartstrings.

I saw the reviews, but took my son anyway, and I am VERY glad I did. At an hour and 44, the movie is a delight. It's a PG film that has a lot of heart, tons of whimsy, and some great performances. I think reviewers were expecting Deadpool without cussing and violence? My 10 year old son was laughing through the first half, and had some tears toward the end. It's a children's movie, and MY child LOVED it.

Director John Krasinski switches genres from horror to comedy/fantasy with his latest, IF (Imaginary Friend). Though the core of his movies are centred around family, this one is more palatable for a family audience. Bea loses her mother to cancer when she was little and now, as a teen, she has to deal with her father's medical ailment. While she staying with her grandmother, she comes across imaginary friends, who are looked after by a man called Calvin. She volunteers to find the IFs, new homesMy biggest takeaway from the movie was that Ryan Reynolds managed to steer clear of his usually cocky self. He is more mellow as his character should be. I am grateful to Krasinski for that. Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead) does well as the titular character, who doesn't find happiness in anything after she loses her mother. Krasinski's choice for the voice cast is brilliant. From Steve Carell to Emily Blunt to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper and many many more. I loved the nod to Deadpool 2 (watch out for it). IF is a beautifully weaven story of how life catches up with you when you become older. There are so many things that bog you down; like your job, peer pressure, age, self-confidence and in the process we forget about the smaller things in life, the things that made us happy: like our hobbies, our passion that we lost along the way. I loved how Krasinski has packaged all this in kid's movie that is too mature for it's **** you love heartfelt movies filled with lovable characters, then IF is right up your alley.

A kids movie for adults. My dad and I cried the entire time. I really cannot recommend it enough.

The folks who made this flick were/are at least aware of the old Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends cartoon, it had a very on the nose nod to said animation. It does have some comedic moments, but it's more a drama. Some of the moments in the film are real tear-jerkers.

So adorable and absolutely enjoyable. This movie healed a little part of me that I didn't know needed healing and it hit perfectly right. This might not be the right film for everyone but this was the right film for me.

Took the family to see this. It was a fun time. If you like Ryan Reynolds this is definitely a movie to see. Whole theater was laughing throughout. Made for a great Saturday evening with the family.

IF is a sweet and harmless family film that rarely gets made anymore . It captures the innocence, sentimentality, and nostalgia of having imaginary friends. It has a deeper concept about addressing coping mechanisms and why we embrace fantasy

I wanted to see IF from the previews in theater because Ryan Reynolds was the headliner in them and it seemed like it would be a cute, and funny family movie. I was happy that to be entirely correct about that. It is definitely a family film and one that delivers an important message about maintaining one's imagination throughout life and not allowing the joys of childhood to be taken away in such a manner as to diminish your creative spark and joys. There is an underlying message of love and family at the core of the film and some much-needed moments of levity that place Ryan in some comical situations that are truly enjoyable. I'd recommend it to families with children in the age bracket of 8+ as some fantasy elements might be kind of frightening to younger children.

A única coisa que se salva nesse filme é a trilha sonora e o talento da protagonista mirim. Mesmo os veteranos estão canastrões, e a ideia de reparar os vínculos entre os amigos imaginários com seus criadores já crescidos (alguns nem tão adultos) falha miseravelmente, seja no apelo visual ridículo, seja no ritmo e edição tenebrosos. Não há aqui um domínio do espaço, de modo que os seres convivem com as pessoas de forma tão ridicularmente pobre, que filmes com mais de 30 anos como "Sapce Jam" parecem uma obra-prima. E tem uma direção de arte boa até, mas o roteiro e a direção não conseguem criar empatia com os seres. Decepcionante.

É mediano. Talvez as crianças pequenas gostem. Ja os adultos podem acha um pouco entediante, não que seja ruim so é um pouco "infantil demais"

The film IF is a very entertaining and fun film filled with adventures making the audience glued to their screen.

Absolute waste of time. Interesting ideas end up going to complete waste with horribly written dialogue, cringe inducing "humor", and some of the most annoying characters that have ever been seen. The movie takes way to long to establish its premise then ends up going nowhere with any of it. Just go watch Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends with your kids instead of exposing them to this cheap off-brand version.

Before the movie starts, there's an introduction by writer/director John Krasinski and star Ryan Reynolds. With a 4-minute countdown timer, they explain the basics: When children grow up, their imaginary friends (IFs) are left behind. So, the movie begins with Cailey Fleming as a young girl who discovers some of these IFs in the house where she's staying. Along with Reynolds, she sets out to help grown-ups reconnect with their IFs and the subsequent joy and security. The emphasis here is on heartfelt, not funny. The only comic moments come from the inevitable smart asides from Reynolds. The parade of IFs had lots of potential for humor, but despite an impressive list of voices, it doesn't materialize. The pacing is too slow for fun and the sweet interactions sometimes seem forced. There's even a song-and-dance number that's rather flat. On a fashion note, Reynolds and Fleming show up in several high-waisted looks. The potential for a delightful fantasy a la Pixar never materializes and the emotional aspect lacks much inspiration. NOTE: Stay thru the credits for a sweet dedication.

Amazing movie. Nice performance. This movie is really can watch by all ages.

I think this film is going to get unnecessarily bashed because it's not what people are expecting. It's at times a sad film with a positive message about embracing the imagination and dreams you had as a child but people will be expecting a happy go lucky comedy. I think it's a beautiful film and highly recommend it but don't go in expecting despicable me. It needs to be viewed as it's own story.
