Immensely likable, and allows Mr. Smith to fulfill his manifest destiny -- as an urbane comedian who is also, shades of Cary Grant, a romantic hero.

Philadelphia Inquirer
Like most great comedies, Hitch confects a sweetly appealing fantasy.

a good comedy, not vulgar, with real-life humor, good ideas and nice characters, too nice, definitely one of my favorite comedies

One of my favorite movies of all time again. Love this movie! I love movies that have a storyline that's not common in a lot of movies. Thus is also really hilarious.

While far from perfect, Hitch is a rare studio product that earns the goodwill it smugly demands.

Charlotte Observer
Multiple lobotomies. That's the only way to explain what happens in the middle of Hitch, whose first hour sets up one of the brightest romantic comedies in months and whose second hour tears it down.

For all its flaws, Hitch largely comes off as a light romp.

L.A. Weekly
The film moves in fits and starts, and is way too long, but it may prove memorable, if only for the sweet, marvelously inventive performance of Kevin James.

The Hollywood Reporter
An unwieldy, excessively talky affair, unintentionally exhibiting all the clunky stops and starts and self-conscious ramblings of a particularly awkward first date.

Hitch takes a sincere premise of finding true love delivered with endearing, real characters and adds just enough comedic flair. Well crafted dialogue is found throughout with great performances by Will Smith, but Kevin James really steals the show.

The polished mechanics of a charismatic courtship: A 3.0-star rhythm of safe romanticism.2012 (3.0)I watched "Hitch" in 2012, and it served as a smooth and professional entry in the romantic comedy genre, though it felt a bit too "formulaic" to earn a higher rating. While Will Smith’s performance was undeniably "sensational" and filled with his signature "raw" charisma, the film followed a predictable narrative rhythm that lacked the shocking "revelation" of a 4.0-star or 5.0-star masterpiece. The 95% preservation of my memory suggests that while the "chewy" chemistry between the leads was entertaining, the emotional stakes never quite **** the fourth wall of my expectations. It was a comfortable immersion into the world of professional dating advice, but compared to the "visceral" impact of the films that make me cry until the screen is a blur, "Hitch" felt like a well-tailored suit—perfectly functional but lacking a unique soul. It provided a decent distraction from the "1.0-star traumas" of that year, but ultimately remained a solid 3.0-star experience that drifted more toward a pleasant "silent satisfaction" than an electrifying cinematic milestone. In my archive, it stands as a reminder of a 2012 viewing where the charm was sufficient, even if the depth didn't quite reach the "perfect" frequency I crave.

This movie tries so hard to be entertaining to a mainstream audience and ends up being cheesy and pandering rather than genuine or original. Hitch is mostly predictable and lacks much originality, relying on cheep laughs and one line crack jokes. Fans of Will Smith are ****.
