Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

No, it's not the final movie in the series, but it's the end of a particular era for Jason, and it's a good way to go out for the hockey masked killer.

Even though we would see more of Jason over the years (first as a zombie, then battling a telekinetic super-girl, taking on Freddy Krueger within his own warped dreams, even hacking teens to bits in outer space), this one certainly felt as if it properly closed out the Friday the 13th series before it devolved into unadulterated camp.

The appeal of the Friday the 13th cycle is difficult for any one who has not seen the movies on a Saturday night in a packed theatre to understand: they are an exercise in collective adolescent camp. As each victim falls to Jason's wrath, the kids cheer and laugh, and the gorier the death, the better. By the standards of that audience, part four is perfection: there are more gruesome homicides than Pauline had perils. [17 Apr 1984]

Given, however, the consistent pro production value, the evisceration on parade is not campy.

While not exactly an actress picture, The Final Chapter takes pains to make its characters a little more personable than the horror- movie norm. This is unfortunate, since there is nothing to do during the second half of the film but watch them die.

The studio certainly needn't hire any brilliant writers; they have only to repeat the plot of the first film in every sequel.

Меня просто поражает как можно на издыхании всех мочить. Начало уже с Джейсона начинается, и начинает пугать сначала дешевыми скримерами, а потом заигрывает на страхе врачей морга. Потом опять знакомое место Кристальное озеро, хотя можно было действия в городе развернуть, но ладно. В этот раз уже кто то живет у озера, прям семья с ребенком, который далеко не последнюю роль будет играть)

Greetings from Lithuania. "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" (1984) was a clear improvement over the poor Part 3 in my opinion. That doesn't make it a great movie by any means, but its an OK one to be honest. It has some brutal kills as usual, some few nice jump scares, descent pacing and some barrable acting. Clearly an improvement over abysmal and over rushed Part 3. Core Feldman was a nice surprise for me to see in this movie, as saw this film few times now and couldn't remember a thing from seeing it for the first time years ago. Overall, "The Final Chapter" (which we know is far from being last one), is on part with Part 2 and slightly below first one, but better then Part 3.

Final Chapter ?? It was nice to know that back in 1984 Paramount thought it was ready to move on. Before his big send off, Jason does alot of damage in some brutal scenes, Of the sequels I've watched, this one has a lot more nudity, and has alot of famous people in the cast, Overall, i wasn't bored, But I wasn't scared either.

Was nice to see a few known actors pop up in this. This one seemed to go over the line with the gratuitous nudity and general horniness from the start. I am getting sick and tired of seeing the bad guys feet walking as a form of tension. Has some better kills at least, the launch from the window was fun, assuming everybody in the house was deaf though. Features an all time weird dance sequence from Crispin Glover. I appreciated the different spin on the ending.

Aw **** here we go again for the same copied and pasted formula. 'Friday the 13th Final Chapter' starts with an awful introduction bringing us back in the ugliest and least scary moments of the prequel. No strings attached. Don't worry, you don't have to wait a long time to witness the first boobs-flash scene and realize that this particular episode of the saga brought the nudity and the sex scenes to a whole other level. Overall, the vulgarity continues to rise, even after the impressive level of "Friday the 13th Part 3" and its incredible focus on teenage girls' butts. Here we have the right to have the bad and muddy jokes in addition to it. And teenagers watching nudity all night long. Moreover, while the prequel sometimes fell into a kind of voyeurism, here we have an official beginning of this perverse inclination since we have the extreme chance to see a ten year old looking at a naked teenager. I don't even have to note the fact that all these stereotyped teenage protagonists are horny as hell and can't go a night without getting laid. Plus they all are as dumb as deaf to not realize what is happening all around them. The acting is very inequal between the actors and it is a shame since some of them had a great potential like Rob. But the movie prefers to show us blood than deeper realtions and interesting characters. Dialogues are terrible. The few 'romance' sub-stories are awful. There are a surprising amount of useless and ineffective scare jumps. Special effects are bad even if slightly better than those of the prequel. In 'Friday the 13th Final Chapter' we also reach a point of gore and sadism never seen before in the series. The crimes are finally getting more creative and darker, which doesn't stop them from being honestly laughable at some point. Jason is still overpowered, invicible and fast as my man Usain, making him a shallow and predictable opponent. Fortunately the movie has some decent parts, like this amazingly laughable dance scene which is totally unforgettable. You just have to enjoy it to make the film worth watching. No spoilers but for once the ending is interesting and different from all those of the prequel.
