Event Horizon could have used a decent script, but the director, Paul Anderson, is a stylist to watch.

Superbly styled in techno-Gothic space-grunge chic, this sci-fi/horror cross-breed is a directorial triumph of reference and homage.

Sometimes it happens: you watch the trailer, read what it's about, the music hits... and you just know that movie is going to stay with you forever. That’s what happened to me with Event Horizon, one of those experiences that leave a mark. Horror, science fiction, a suffocating atmosphere, and a soundtrack that still gives me chills. I saw it in the summer of '98 and since then, it’s been fixed in my top 5 favorite films of all **** premise was already powerful: a ship that reappears years after going missing in a remote point of space... and it's brought something back. What seemed like a rescue mission quickly turns into a space nightmare where logic crumbles and horror seeps in little by little. It doesn't rely on gooey monsters or cheap jump scares — here, the fear is more psychological, more suffocating, darker.Sure, the final stretch may be a bit more flashy, and some narrative decisions might not age perfectly. But I don’t care. Because few films have achieved that addictive mix of science fiction and pure horror — that descent into mental hell with an unforgettable techno-gothic aesthetic. The images stay with you, the screams too, and the unease... even more so.What Event Horizon accomplishes —despite its detractors— is to create its own universe, one where plausibility doesn’t matter as much as what it makes you feel. And for me, that’s worth more than a thousand special effects. A truly cursed gem.

An excellent film combining horror and sci-fi. I watched it several times and each time I experienced it the same way, despite the familiarity of the plot (+1). One of my favorites! Still eye-catching visuals... Great acting. Compelling story. Such a great atmosphere! A must watch!

Contraryto its exciting advertising, Event Horizon is not the most frightening movie ever made. If anything, the conventional pop-up scares and gross-out effects of this British haunted-space-ship story seem less terrifying than quaint.

Half of what's going on is never explained, and what is explained, doesn't make much sense. And that's just the beginning of the problems encountered in director Paul Anderson's ("Mortal Kombat") poorly executed endeavor.

The worst thing about Event Horizon--written by Philip Eisner, directed by Paul Anderson--isn't all the gore decorating the 21st-century space ship that gives the movie its name, but the filmmakers' reliance on shock edits and headache-inducing sound F/X to obscure the fact that this is one of the most derivative movies to hit screens in memory.

The movie is very loud. It is pointlessly loud, arbitrarily loud, assaultively loud.

Trying to figure out just what went wrong in the creation of a movie as dreadful as this may ultimately be as futile as trying to ascertain what might lie on the "other side" of a black hole.

One of the best sci fi movies I have ever watched. Can't understand why the critics were so bad.

OK sci-fi movie, the usual "I saw or heard something but I'm not going to tell the other crewmen" story line. This is a rescue crew who have been together for a long time, why wouldn't they feel comfortable to talk to each other?

If the original more violent and gory version was made and released it would be much better.

A sci-fi horror movie that fails on both counts due to a baffling plot and poor direction.

I don't generally watch horror films, but the internet seems to have hyped this film up so much that I decided to give it a watch. Sadly for me, the only thing this film has going for it is the hype surrounding it. It gets points for the premise, and starts off pretty okay, but somewhere past the half way mark it falls flat and becomes dreadfully boring.
