Eichner is quick and funny, and Macfarlane is a strong leading man and a sensitive listener — with Eichner constantly deluging him with a torrent of words, Macfarlane would have to be. Audiences will become very fond of both long before the end of the picture.

Eichner and Stoller have written a film that plays to both of their strengths as storytellers, all while making one of the funniest and most romantic films of 2022.

Why not a Hollywood gay romance comedy is as boring as a straight Hollywood romance.

With so many firsts, a film might buckle under the avalanche of the accompanying expectations. Thankfully, Bros is so belly-achingly funny, sharply observant and wryly self-aware that it can more than withstand such a crushing weight.

So many rom-coms rely on tiresome plot twists to keep their characters apart before getting them together, but all of the ups and downs in Bros’ romance feel emotionally necessary.

For all Eichner’s intentions to make history with the movie, it’s at its best when it frees itself from representing anything more than two characters falling in love. That gives us more space to laud its pioneering work in putting awkward foursomes onscreen, anyway.

Its perpetual commentary on the mainstreaming of queerness remains at odds with its very desire to tell its story within the Hollywood system.

Bros lumbers when it should glide, lectures when it should joke. Wherever you fall on the Kinsey scale, you’ll probably find it a miserable experience.

I saw Bros 4 times at the movies. That’s how good this movie is. Bros is funny, sweet, intelligent and tender. It wasn’t a silly or generic rom-com, it was smart and well-produced. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone, not only to the LGBTQ+ community. Five-star all the way! Bros is an Instant Classic.

First things first: I’m one of those people who believe that the romantic comedy genre peaked with When Harry Met Sally. At the same time, I’m also one of those who generally can’t get into this genre—it mostly bores me. Bros fits seamlessly into the tradition of American rom-coms: A quick-witted protagonist, full of self-confidence, randomly meets another person, they initially don’t get along, but then sparks fly, inevitable drama ensues, and in the end, everyone is happy or has at least learned something. This time, it’s about two guys who fall in love. The truly predictable and worn-out plot is saved only by Billy Eichner, who turns it into an entertaining film—assuming you can appreciate his comedy persona. As sharp and funny as the dialogue is, as insightful and witty as the observations about the modern (dating) life of a big-city gay man are, Eichner’s acting is unfortunately just as poor. On top of that, Stoller directs the whole thing so lacklusterly that this film could easily pass as the “Netflix movie of the week.” One might argue that the Gays finally deserve their own version of an Apatow comedy—and there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, I enjoyed Love, Simon and Single All the Way too (both films were also hailed as the first of their kind for a gay* audience). And so it is with Bros: has plenty of funny moments the guest stars are amazing (Fierstein, Yang, Bearse, ...) the cynical take on the LGBTQ+ community is refreshing some of the sex scenes are surprisingly bold for a studio production the plot the acting of the leads direction and cinematography runtime

Had fun with this typically structured rom com, the middle did seem to really drag and kinda do nothing for like 0 minutes but other than that it was very well made with some good laughs.

The only good thing about this movie was the eye candy. Jesus, it has a greatest hits of ALL the worst stereotypes about gay men - promiscuous, superficial, poly nonsense, immaturity! The language and dialogue written wasn’t engaging but obnoxious to the inth degree. As a gay man, I thought this could be interesting and funny but « representation » isn’t always a good thing.
