First things first: I’m one of those people who believe that the romantic comedy genre peaked with When Harry Met Sally. At the same time, I’m also one of those who generally can’t get into this genre—it mostly bores me. Bros fits seamlessly into the tradition of American rom-coms: A quick-witted protagonist, full of self-confidence, randomly meets another person, they initially don’t get along, but then sparks fly, inevitable drama ensues, and in the end, everyone is happy or has at least learned something. This time, it’s about two guys who fall in love. The truly predictable and worn-out plot is saved only by Billy Eichner, who turns it into an entertaining film—assuming you can appreciate his comedy persona. As sharp and funny as the dialogue is, as insightful and witty as the observations about the modern (dating) life of a big-city gay man are, Eichner’s acting is unfortunately just as poor. On top of that, Stoller directs the whole thing so lacklusterly that this film could easily pass as the “Netflix movie of the week.” One might argue that the Gays finally deserve their own version of an Apatow comedy—and there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, I enjoyed Love, Simon and Single All the Way too (both films were also hailed as the first of their kind for a gay* audience). And so it is with Bros: has plenty of funny moments the guest stars are amazing (Fierstein, Yang, Bearse, ...) the cynical take on the LGBTQ+ community is refreshing some of the sex scenes are surprisingly bold for a studio production the plot the acting of the leads direction and cinematography runtime

Why did they advertise this as the first gay romcom other than just to cash in that money from gay people and this is just offensive to myself as a gay person because it's rolledup in cliche/negative stereotypes and it's so cringe it makes me want to throw my show at the screen and it's just baaaad.

Fun romantic comedy highlighted by a great performance by Billy Eichner. This is a classic Rom-Com but also holds some additional emotional weight and incredible insight into our LGBTQIA+ communities in our modern world. Some issues getting the story moving in the beginning but once the the narrative smoothes it's a very enjoyable time, with multiple laugh really hard out loud moments. Independent of Eichner, acting left a bit to be desired but this movie makes you feel good and is an awesome effort and platform, with lots of beautiful monologues with an added sense of vulnerability.

Despite what they say, you are not always a homophobe for not liking this movie. As revolutionary as it may be, you are allowed to dislike something purely because it's not a good movie. The main character is constantly obnoxious and preachy, with no growth over the course of the movie. Cheap and stereotypical gay jokes relying on meta-referential humour used consistently with little to no laughs elicited - worrying in a romantic comedy.

The only good thing about this movie was the eye candy. Jesus, it has a greatest hits of ALL the worst stereotypes about gay men - promiscuous, superficial, poly nonsense, immaturity! The language and dialogue written wasn’t engaging but obnoxious to the inth degree. As a gay man, I thought this could be interesting and funny but « representation » isn’t always a good thing.

This has got to be the worst LGBT romance movie I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. Painfully flat. Zero sparks. Forced emotion. Extremely shallow. An absolute train wreck. Two leads have no personalities. They are just "types". Relationship not convincing at all. Some characters are so stereotyped to the extent that it's borderline insulting. It's ok that main character is a LGBTQ activist, but it's not ok every minute this guy is trying to lecture people (audience). This relentless push to be politically correct made the movie lack basic humanity. I don't think somebody so obsessed with being gay (we need to be reminded practically every minute) is capable of falling in love. Certainly felt like it was written and directed by people devoid of any basic understanding of cinema art. Frankly those people should not be in movie business. Please don't waste any minute of your precious life on this kind of Hollywood garbage!

Had fun with this typically structured rom com, the middle did seem to really drag and kinda do nothing for like 0 minutes but other than that it was very well made with some good laughs.

This is not the rom-com that we've been waiting for. There has been little thought by the director/writer of a film that moves as well as makes us laugh. The premise of a campy museum covering LGBQ history is rather inappropriate; it's like Ken Burns working with Rupaul. Except for an amusing cameo by Debra Messing, laughter was scarce. Not the kind of film I would recommend or write about in great detail.

This is actually one of the best romantic comedies that I've seen. There are lot's of funny jokes, sometimes used to ease the tension, I have laughed a lot, but the one thing that surprised me is that this film seems more self-aware and mature than most romantic comedies. Like, I am no expert, but typically in romantic comedies there are these silly misunderstandings that cause everything to spiral out of control, but they all could have been avoided with just a tiny bit of communication. This film seems to me more like real life, some things just need to be processed for people to grow and find happiness. I am really glad I went to see this film.

This movie is as well-written, acted and funny as any of the classic rom-coms of the past thirty years. Moreover, the two main protagonists are truly 3-dimensional characters who do not fall into a single category of gay men. Yes, there are gay sex scenes, but that should not come as a surprise to viewers given that this an R-rated rom-com with two male leads. None of these scenes are gratuitous, and all are either laugh-out-loud funny or move the story forward . . . or both.

Skip this movie if you are getting tired of the gay community whining about their cause and then the lead character pushing religion in to boot. Gays are here, they get married, run for public office - enough already. Teaching their lifestyle to second graders - really? That's the next goal? If you are already gay, then the movie might be for you, otherwise, find a different way to spend your time and money.

Very meh. If you're a gay man, like average love stories, lots of gay sex and think progressive ideology is the moral center of the universe, then this movie is for you. Billy Eichner is mostly annoying all the way through the movie. His character is solidly unlikable. (the dude playing his love interest is decent though. I'd like to see him in a movie that wasn't mediocre). There are probably 3 really funny scenes in the movie. One involving Debra Messing, one with 4 naked dudes blowing each other and another with a meeting of people running an LGBTQetc museum. Other than that, it's not particularly funny or worth watching. Billy Eichner does do a decent Garth Brooks impression for second though.

I saw Bros 4 times at the movies. That’s how good this movie is. Bros is funny, sweet, intelligent and tender. It wasn’t a silly or generic rom-com, it was smart and well-produced. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone, not only to the LGBTQ+ community. Five-star all the way! Bros is an Instant Classic.

The best comedy this year, hands down. It plays wonderfully with genre tropes while being genuinely witty, funny and even emotional. Charming cast, effective jokes, it's old-fashioned but still timely and refreshingly self aware.. excellent scripts really do wonders indeed. I loved every second of it

Further proof that the user reviews are just a bunch of haters. I hope your war on gay movies is satisfying. Look, 69 of you haters gave it a 0 so you win?? too funny. You did it! Thanks for the laughs. You got offended and wrote a review. Then, called the critics false. This user score is the most false score ever seen, because a bunch of angry triggered conservatives flooded the reviews with 0. You really think this film deserves a 0? Hmm, I wonder why? 10/10 Thanks for ruining user scores. Keep fighting that war for your safe space.

Much has been made of this first gay rom-com from a major studio, but the results don't live up to the hype. It stars comic Billy Eichner, who's pretty much playing his usual caustic, neurotic self. He plays a New York podcaster who's happy with his carefree life until he meets an interested hunk (Luke Macfarlane).Their relationship develops on traditional lines, including the rough breakup before the final kiss. Fans of Eichner might find this enjoyable, but a little of his manic personality can go a long way. Macfarlane succeeds in being hot and charming. The film also makes a point of showcasing contemporary **** culture (sex included) and there are some famous folks mostly wasted in cameos. Being that Eichner co-wrote, his autobiographical rants and political tirades drag the film's spirit and pace. There are a few funny moments, but overall it's a spirited, but unoriginal romance.

Another example of how to select a movie, in that, critics herald it as amazing, which means the viewers will, most likely, dislike it. The movie is perverse and distasteful. The forcing of a chosen lifestyle that is held by few people is made to look as if it is normal and even more celebrates or courageous. This is not romantic or funny.

An absolute abomination. They single-handedly painted a picture that all gay men are butt thirsty sexual deviants and then turned around and blamed the complete flop on the fact that the world is almost entirely heterosexual. This is the new woke strategy. Do something nobody wanted, and blame everyone who didn’t want it while acting virtuous and groundbreaking. Goodbye and don’t let stds hit you on the way out
