Cahill is so effective at blurring the lines and making both “realities” feel equally plausible that it’s hard not to feel your own reality attenuating as you watch it. Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek, something of an odd couple on paper, are also perfectly cast.

Bliss isn’t really all that interested in trafficking in the stuff of mass-market science fiction: the bells and whistles, in the form of nifty hardware, special effects and the like. Rather, Cahill’s latest film is an exercise in existential inquiry.

I felt this was an excellent movie about half way through when I realized its a drug hallucination movie. I think Owen Wilson was excellent in the movie - especially the latter parts where you could see him degrade. Highly recommended.

An amazing story that tells the story about a person lost in the abuse of drugs, living in his own alternate reality not knowing what is real and not any more. It is a real heartbreaking story if you understand what is happening in the movie. It is sad that people do not seam to understand the movie and what it is really about. Even the description of the movie on IMDb is totally wrong for some odd reason. To me this movie was excellently executed. If you know people how have struggled with similar issues you will probably understand the movie and the story a bit better.

The convoluted movie feels like a bunch of grandiose ideas in search of a connecting thread. Perhaps Cahill needs to reconnect with his indie roots to get his creative bliss back.

I wish the results were better, and a lot stranger. Cahill’s world-building has its moments, though. And the filmmaker did determine — correctly — that it’d be fun to have Bill Nye, the science guy, in a bow tie, portraying a sniffy scientific researcher.

Unlike “The Matrix,” there’s too little to hang onto thanks to a flimsy story that dives into future-tech and glib heaven-or-hell discourses, and characters who keep us at arm’s length.

Bliss fails to engage the senses, resulting in cinematic disappointment.

Completely miscast, egregiously plotted and ludicrous in absolutely every single other way, Bliss is a true cinematic disasterpiece.

It's not a bad movie, just very dull and forgettable. I would rate it lower but I think the deeper meaning of the story is very good (The deeper meaning is about how the main character is suffering from drug addiction and mental illness. Almost everything you see in the movie is just in the main character's head, so the main character is an unreliable narrator.)

Mike Cahill once again delves into complex terrain and ideas that you don't usually see in average romantic dramas, but Bliss is pretty much a lot of nothing. I know it sounds strange, but the film never seems to have a consistency that would make it less feeble, or more than anything enough quality that makes it worthy of the issues it's dealing with.
It's basically the Dunning - Kruger effect. And maybe, just maybe, the lead couple wasn't the right one.

Can't adapt to reality? So either you take psychoactive drugs or you resort to defense mechanisms such as escapism, pollyannism, scotomization and other forms of psychosis. You will live in a paradise only gnoseologically virtual and, above all, only in your subjective image and likeness. Third chance: you can accept it as the last stage in the grieving process and enjoy the status quo. Leaving aside the slew of quotes, thank you so much, Mr. Cahill.
