It's a hilarious, dumb comedy that's smart enough to be something more. And all it does is make Sandler the most soulful -- and the funniest -- comic in the business.

One of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. This movie is hilarious. My daughter loved this movie as a kid as well. Now that she is a teen she loves Adam Sandler but always calls him big daddy. She says that's the only way she could remember him.

Man, it is insane the way a comedic actor of Sandler's caliber can be so wrongfully tossed aside the way he is by most critics, and maybe classic film-watchers I guess. This man is a comedic genius and multi-talented. He incorporates singing and song-writing, every single kind of joke you could ever come up with and an awesome support cast in everything he's done, oh yea which by the way he has pretty much built from the ground up. It's sad to see him so discredited on sites like this. [Rant over]

There's some heavy-duty Oedipal stuff going on underneath all the running gags about Hooters restaurants. [25 June 1999, Life, p.8E]

Though the cast is talented, the script is a mess. It's essentially a collision of missed opportunities.

It's a flimsy sentimental comedy with more product plugs and fewer laughs than might have been hoped for.

Big Daddy should be reported to the child welfare office.

Nasty to women, cruel to old people and tosses in a cardboard gay couple for gratuitous laughs. It's also got one of those annoying soundtracks that lays rock music right over the dialogue -- as if it wanted to distract us from it.

Clearly Julian McGrath was right; "Most critics are cynical **** Good job at proving his point correctly, critics. To the point now: Big Daddy is a charming, comedic movie. This has to be one of Adam Sandler's more proper movies as opposed to the terrible Grown Ups series and the mind-numbing Bedtime Stories. For a start, Big Daddy is funny. It also has an actual story unlike the Sandler is dishing out nowadays... This is definitely a movie I would come back and watch again and again.

For those who think watching a kid pee in a park is funny, this is the film for you. However if you're not already an Adam Sandler fan, you'll find it mildly amusing at best.

It was funny. Definently worth the watch and definently one of Sandler's best films. It does get a little bit generic and sappy about half way into it but its still worth the watch.

Most of the time the plot is predictable: it's all about a man adopting a kid in a desperate hope to win her ex-girl . Nothing is really new, surprising and interesting because i have seen lots of movies with similar storytelling before. The argument scene at court between Sonny and his father is heart-touching though, taking quite lots of tears from people ( of course not including me ) and portrayal of Steve Buscemi as a homeless guy which i find pretty laughable and enjoyably funny.

Adam Sandler makes bad movies. Very lame, movie is forgettable, and hooters to inappropriate for my kid.
