We’re taken back to a naive era, when the boundaries of “smut” were narrower, when even the images of an unlikely “adult” star (she never did sex films or “real” porn) seem now like good, clean fun.

Bettie Page Reveals All earns its title from more than the uncensored images it includes.

This very effectively tells the story of the astonishing Bettie Page, the original sexy pin-up girl. The filmmakers did a great job of assembling tons of her modeling work, which does get a little repetitive. They also did an extended audio interview with Page, who is very open about her often pretty wild life. There are also conversations with photographers, fans, and some of those close to her. She really went through a lot - a poor family, a sexually abusive father, relationships with a lot of men - and then later on, becoming a devout Christian and suffering a mental breakdown. Of course, as everyone noticed, she looked amazing on film (I was surprised she was only 5'5"; she seems so tall and slim) and loved being a model.

Poorly executed but OH so informative, BETTIE PAGE REVEALS ALL won't change the world in terms of filmmaking but the subject matter and Page's influence on pop culture is so important that you will be immersed. It's wonderful to hear Page's own voice and recollections but the really great doc about Page is still yet to come. We'll wait but in the meantime we do have BETTIE PAGE REVEALS ALL which is a nice try at best.

That she continues to invite not just Beyoncé and Katy Perry but millions of adoring men and women along for the ride is icing on the cake.

Despite Page’s excellent voiceover, “Bettie Page” suffers from embarrassingly choppy editing and a parade of stock film clips used to illustrate episodes recounted by its subject.

Page's no-regrets spirit and the enraptured testimonials from those who knew her in her prime (including some swooning ex-lovers) overpowers clumsy filmmaking.

It has a somewhat routine midlevel-cable-production feel. But the content is engaging, and the use of old movie clips to illustrate biographical details... is amusing.

Mark Mori goes a bit overboard in hammering home his appreciation of Bettie Page's significance, allowing the film to occasionally lapse into repetitiveness.

I did not know Bettie Page before this movie. And I've gotta admit I admire her courage and personality. But the movie itself felt really repetitive and dull.
