A video game crossed with a buddy movie, a bad cop-good cop movie, a Miami druglord movie, a chase movie and a comedy. It doesn't have a brain in its head, but it's made with skill and style and, boy, is it fast and furious.

A lark for anyone who's willing to check their brains at the concession stand for 100 minutes.

This one is the definitive film of the saga and I don't care what the critics think of it! The movie is full of action and I love the personality of the **** (tyrese) in this movie

Not to say that it isn't fun, only to say that it is more about sensation than sense.

The best thing about 2 Fast 2 Furious is Tyrese (terrific in Singleton's "Baby Boy"), whose charisma, looks and charm supply the picture with much-needed spark. It's too bad he's stuck in this spotty video game.

Lacks the charismatic presence of Vin Diesel, who has priced himself right out of the franchise. Without Diesel, there's not much gas, at least not from the nonvehicular elements.

Unlike original director Rob Cohen, Singleton has no gift for giddy action and his movie is a crashing bore.
10
Certainly trashy, but, stripped of Mr. Diesel's services and directed by John Singleton, it's a no-go Yugo in muscle-car sheet metal.

The entire racing moments in this movie are a heart-pounding, vigorous encounter that will have you on the edge of your seat with excitement. The picture has a hint of suspense and mystery thanks to the premise of attempting to bring in the ex-con.

Running on fumes 2 Fast 2 Furious attempts to build on the energy of the first instalment, but misses the opportunity to create something truly unique. The film wears its early 2000s vibe like a badge of honour: bright underbody lights, flashy paint jobs, exaggerated modifications and a soundtrack firmly rooted in its time. This style undoubtedly has charm, especially if you feel a certain nostalgia for the era. Visually, the concept still works well. In terms of content, however, the sequel noticeably falters. The biggest change is the absence of Dominic Toretto. In the first film, the tension between Brian O'Conner and Toretto formed the emotional centre. This dynamic is missing here, which makes the story seem less grounded and much more interchangeable. Brian does have a new partner in Roman Pearce, but the chemistry between them falls short of what was built up in the previous film. Roman is supposed to be humorous and impulsive, but his dialogue often seems artificial and is more like a caricature of a ‘funny sidekick’ than a fully-fledged character. Paul Walker tries to carry the film, but without a serious counterpart, the ensemble of characters lacks a clear focus. The villain remains bland, the supporting characters one-dimensional, and the plot unfolds without any surprising twists. Many conflicts feel like a chore, which means that the emotional moments have little impact. The film fares better on the action side. The races are less over-the-top than the nitro fantasies of the first instalment and thus seem a little more down-to-earth, without abandoning the franchise's typical exaggeration. The big car scramble sequence is one of the highlights and shows that the team has a good feel for chaotic but entertaining scenes. At the same time, the torture scene with the bucket stands out negatively, as it introduces a harshness that doesn't fit with the rest of the film's tone. The result is a film that is stylistically appealing and offers some entertaining moments, but lacks the emotional depth and character tension of the original. 2 Fast 2 Furious is a loud, fast-paced stopover in a series that would later produce far stronger entries.

I have always considered the beating heart of the Fast and the Furious saga Vin Diesel. And making a film without him, as undoubtedly good an actor Paul Walker was, is like making a Superman film without Superman.
