Thanks to the change in genre, some fans of the original Valfaris might not get on all that well with this sequel. Being a side-scrolling shooter, no longer can players control the pace or take time to explore. Those who mostly charmed by the game’s metal-themed visuals and head-banging soundtrack, however, will be similarly won over by Valfaris: Mecha Therion. This is a fantastic shooter that never lets up. And thanks to its varied arsenal and upgrade options, you’ll likely return to it time and time again.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion changes the genre, simplifies the game structure and loses the complexity of the first game.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion is another awesome addition to the series that takes the aesthetic and soundtrack of the earlier games and transplants them to a new genre. While not the longest of games (I completed it 3 times in my 12 hours) there is a lot of replay value with the various difficulty settings, weapon upgrades and some devilish achievements to challenge you. Whether you are already a fan of Steel Mantis’ adventures or new to the series Mech Therion is a fantastic slice of heavy metal mayhem and comes highly recommended.

Great fun, well balanced, beautiful art, an absolute masterpiece of epic proportions!

Continuing this hardcore series with the same dripping style and mayhem of SLAIN and VALFARIS, two of my favorite platformers. It's a little different in that you're flying now , rather than on foot, but it's got that same essence that makes this series so unique. The atmosphere, the characters, the music, the weaponry, the nonstop action exploding on screen, this world is so BAD A$ ! Mad respect to the devs , please keep developing this universe, I'll be there for the ride!

A really nicely crafted little shooter with a banging metal soundtrack and the look and feel of the PlayStation 1 era. It's well worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion is an awesome shoot-'em-up. It does a good job of encapsulating the classic shooter sensibilities while also making sure the melee combat fits in without feeling shoehorned. The presentation adheres to the heavy metal style artwork well, while also not obscuring anything of importance. The pacing ensures that the frustration is kept to a minimum. It is nice to see a shooter that isn't just another top-down bullet hell game, and genre fans of all skill levels will really enjoy Mecha Therion.

Reminds me of Ranger X on the Sega Genesis. But instead of a sci-fi theme, this is more heavy metal. Worth playing at least once if you haven't played a type of these games already.
