War for Cybertron impresses with an excellent single-player campaign with full co-op support, the included Horde-alike Escalation mode, and surprisingly deep and inventive online multiplayer component.

If the goal was indeed to create a game that could appeal even to the rawest Transformers newbies, then High Moon has succeeded.

War for Cybertron isn't going to make fans foam at the mouth, but it's another showing that games based off franchises can actually be well-developed and exceptionally fun. High Moon Studios deserves a pat on the back for taking on a challenge and delivering a great game in War for Cybertron that no Transformers fan should miss.

"War for Cybertron" is a third-person shooter that plays similar to "Gears of War". Its story mode is split into two stories; you first play as the Decepticons, then as Autobots. Before the start of each chapter, you select from one of three characters. The campaign can be played with up to three other players online. In addition, there are various competitive modes and a wave-based co-op mode. I would rate this with an 8.3 out of 10.

Totally under rated game.
I like the guns, I like transforming, and I like that you can choose different transformers each mission. I also like that the ammo and health can be hard to come by at times. This gives just enough challenge.
It could use a little more color.
All and all it's a great game.

It isn't deep. It won't set a new standard for action games. But I had a great time playing and I believe you will too. This is the first Transformers game I've been excited about, and having played it I can say that my excitement was validated.

High Moon Studios managed to create a living & breathing world – I know, kind of ironic for a game about robots, isn't it – that did justice to the source material.

An absolutely brilliant game, and one of the first major "movement shooters" in my opinion. The campaign levels are very linear but well designed, and each of the playable characters feel different. The story is pretty good, and was continued greatly in the sequel, Fall of Cybertron. In its prime, the Multiplayer and Escalation modes were unmatched. The multiplayer had such fluidity and movement in its combat, and wasn't replicated by any other shooter at the time. The escalation mode was somewhat similar to COD zombies, but had more depth due to the enemies actually shooting back at you. I say "was," because the servers have been down since 2020. They have been mostly revived due to community effort on PC and PS3, but due to some internal systems they will likely never be revived on Xbox 360. Even still, this game was and still is incredible.

Everything from the bickering banter between Starscream and Megatron, the cold calculated communiques from Soundwave, or the heavy-handed speeches from Optimus to rally his Autobots, it's all here. War for Cybertron is an entertaining game that's just as enjoyable as it is playable.

While its story sometimes lurches and lunges, and its gameplay mechanics can be quirky, Tranformers: War for Cybertron is, somewhat surprisingly, probably the best reboot of the classic cartoon.
79
While it may have the right atmosphere, the right approach to characterization and story presentation to attract anyone who is fond of the Transformers universe, it simply lacks any distinctive features that could potentially make it stand out and put it right up there with the industry's top shooters.
70
As it stands, it's a polished outing for a much-loved pile of robots, and though it costs twice as much as the second film on Blu-Ray, it's about seven times as enjoyable. The maths speaks for itself.

Fans of Transformers - real fans, the people with the cartoon series and die-cast toys - will probably get a huge kick out of the story behind Transformers. They might even get enough out of it to overlook the insipid level design, borrowed gameplay elements and sloppy AI.

While this game has a decent amount of issues, it's one of the first genuinely good Transformers games ever developed, if not the first. Nice visuals, decent gameplay, good voice acting and an interesting story. If you love the Transformers license, or just enjoy a decent sci fi game, pick this game up. But if you are low on money or want something better than this, get Fall of Cybertron as it's a big improvement over this game.

Having played both High Moon titles Transformers titles WFC is the more compelling game to leave feedback on, hence I'll begin with the bot's and con's (see what I did there? Me neither). This game is the most authentic in terms of character, background story and feeling towards Transformers Generation 1, Cybertron genuinely feels alive and vibrant amid the midst of a brutal civil war. The voice acting and dialogue are remarkably good and the original Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) is on key, however Megatron and Breakdown exchanges coupled with Warpath digs at Ironhide were entertaining. However despite the huge fan service throughout WFC the gameplay is too repetitive to the extent where 80% of the Autobot and Decepticon campaigns are identical, from the cut and paste enemies to the recycled boss battles it smacks of laziness. The story mode is 5 to 6 hours long, personally I would of liked another hour or two with more characters and variety. The mutliplayer is actually pretty decent, yet compared deeper titles like Battlefield there isn't enough depth to replay for months on end. Overall a very enjoyable ride through Cybertron pre-Earth days and the old memory banks, it's a shame that High Moon have seemingly abandoned making a third potentially even better game.

I started playing this game positively, I'd heard it was like gears of war with robots. But, sadly, no. Before i'd played the campaign i'd previously played the multiplayer which I enjoyed. If I was rating the multiplayer i'd give it 7/10. But when I got round to playing the campaign at a friends house I was disapointed. The robots were the same colours as the extremely boring and bland setting. Not just the autobots but the decepticons aswell. The combat is just boring and the weapons are just unsatisfying. One reedeming quality was the vehicles that was pretty innovative. But overall its a terrible game and thats coming from a transformers fan!

Looks: terrible, way to b lazy craptivision
Mechanics: not enough ammo, "powers" are lame, lackluster, all basically the same
umm, what else. ok, basically u run from one cybertron themed room to another fighting generic robots. sub-par graphics, it really is all that is wrong with movie games. if u absolutely must play all transformers games then please just rent it so they dont get any money at l;east, but seriously, this is beyond a "skip", this deserves serious repercussions. seriously craptivision, how hard is it to just make a decent game?
