Many Nights A Whisper is another magical story and experience from Deconstructeam, now with the added co-development of Selkie Harbour. Though some could take issue with its brief foray, it’s worth it for the incredibly pragmatic lens of teaching players to be okay with the unknown, while also questioning rituals and the everyday norm. How much stir and bubble you want to put out into the world is entirely up to you, and through controlling the protagonist known as The Dreamer, you get a microscopic look at what it means to put good out into the world, but also what implications that could have. Backed by an entrancing lo-fi soundtrack from the wonderful fingerspit, along with a colourful vignette of a greater world, Many Nights A Whisper reminds us that there is hope yet for this world. Through it all is that fiery, bright shining beacon of light in the distance.

A short but powerful narrative game with a unique concept and minimal mechanics, it delivers moral dilemmas and emotional tension through a simple shooting ritual, although it could benefit from deeper character development and more complex decisions.

With its meditative gameplay, philosophical storytelling, and stunning atmosphere, it promises to be a memorable experience for players who appreciate thoughtful, narrative-driven games. If you’re looking for something different, reflective and beautifully crafted, this is one to keep an eye on but just be warned, it does become intense, particularly with that final shot.

With one chance to land a single, perfect shot – few games have this tension and impact, really making me sit with how I felt about everything.

Of every choice I made in Many Nights A Whisper, I am open to learning what this says about me the least. I really wanted to nail that shot, and what kind of selfish fool ignores such an obvious advantage with so much riding on success? This isn't about me, I reason. Of course, it's actually been about me the whole time.

I was quite surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reception of Many Nights a Whisper. Personally, I found it rather dull and disappointingly shallow in its themes. The game revolves around a ritual where you train for a single decisive shot while deciding whether to grant people’s wishes, supposedly raising ethical dilemmas about responsibility and desire. In practice, however, the questions it asks felt extremely basic, almost caricatural, and never really pushed me to reflect in a meaningful way. The gameplay doesn’t help either : it’s very minimal, mostly repetitive practice with a slingshot leading to a short finale, and the whole experience is over very quickly. In the end, the game honestly feels more like a demo for an unfinished project than a complete experience. It touches on topics like trans identity, vegetarianism, and social expectations, but only in a very superficial way, never really committing to them or exploring them with any depth. For a game that seems to want to say something meaningful, it ends up playing things surprisingly safe.
